Fab Freebie: Sunny Side Up

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries.***

If you’re a Richmonder, you might’ve already deciphered that the Sunny mentioned in this morning’s Reader Redesign is none other than local paint heroine Sunny Goode. Heck, even non-locals with a good memory might have picked up on it since Sunny’s name has popped up more than once on YHL, like when we house crashed this Domino-featured home that sported Sunny’s signature stenciled paint treatment on her floors:

Sunny Give Katie Floor

Or when we dropped in on her store, Sunny’s Goodtime Paints, a couple of years ago:

Sunny Give Store 2

Sunny Give Store

Plus we even got to sneak a peek of one of her newest creations: the floor at the soon-to-be open children’s consignment boutique called Clover located in Richmond’s Carytown district. Sidenote: we’ll be showcasing even more inspiration from this stunning shop soon because it’s chock full of awesome (and doable!) ideas.

Sunny Give Clover Floor

But in case you’re still in the dark about just how talented and inspiring Sunny is, allow us to shine a little light on the subject. Sunny serves up a boatload of tools and inspiration to make your next paint job work a little harder when it comes to creating a more unique, playful, personal, and beautiful space. We know her best for her stencils, color washes, and stains- which can bring some much-needed pattern to a blank floor or wall. But she’s also got monograms, decals, and even two books (Paint Can! and its kid-tastic sidekick).

Sunny Give Product Four

So because Sunny has so much fun stuff to dish out, we’re excited to announce that TWO lucky winners will score an $100 shopping spree. So you have the chance to snag whatever goodies catch your eye on her site the most! And the rest of you will be able to cash in on a pretty sweet discount too (stay tuned for those details on Thurs). But enough jibber-jabber. Here are all the deets:

  • PRIZE: $100 towards anything from Sunny’s Goodtime Paints
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SHINE ON ME!” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … help us get the creative painting juices flowing and share your favorite use of paint (whether it’s something you’ve done or just something you’ve seen). Is it a surprisingly stellar color combo? An object that was totally transformed by a few brushstrokes? Or perhaps a painted pattern or stencil that really make the room?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, July 21st at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The lower 48 United States
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

I’ve always wanted to paint a room using paint with a metallic sheen to it! Maybe a powder room or something?

The best use of color I’ve seen is bright colors on a mix of old, worn lamps. It’s such an easy (and usually inexpensive) way to brighten up a room.

I like the modern look of distressed painted furniture and accessories. I just spray painted a mirror last night that has that look to it. The mirror was cracked and scuffed in places so I used semi gloss white spray paint and did two coats. So you can see the cracks coming through and the piece overall looks so much better!

      Hey Laura,

You can find out more by clicking over to Sunny’s site and then checking out things like her blog, but we do believe it’s just wood stain and a gold stencil on those floors. So pretty, eh?

I just finished painting a sweet swirly mural in my newly remodeled kitchen. The walls are a flat paint, so I painted the swirls in a high-gloss of the same color! LOVE IT.

Ever since my aunt remodeled my cousins’ bedroom, I have fallen in love with the amazing things paint can do. The walls were painted a pretty sky blue, and my cousins and I got to assist in painting fluffy white clouds all over the room. My uncle pained a giant tree in the corner, my aunt painted a white picket fence around the room with bushes and flowers along the base board, and the ceiling fan was painted a bright yellow so it looked like the sun. When you walk in the room it feels like you’re walking to some kind of secret indoor garden.

I just painted our nursery and made a “big boy” room for my 3 year old. We used so much paint, so little money for such a big impact! My favorite part is the field of 3D stars I hung over the large wall. It’s a 5×8 mural for less than $30!

SHINE ON ME! I love how a tiny bit of paint can completely transform something that was once garbage into a great detail in your home’s decor. I demonstrated this to my husband recently when he was going to throw out a dirty linen lampshade that was hanging out in our attic when we bought our house. A little paint, and it’s now on proud display in our living room.

My favorite paint project to date is using a semi gloss paint that was slightly darker than my wall paint which was flat. I used it to make large horizontal stripes. The effect is subtle, but it definitely took it up a notch.

I absolutely love how paint can transform furniture! I’m currently moving from my college apartment into my first big-girl house with my fiance, and it’s nice to paint a lot of my cheap furniture (working on an “espresso brown” bookshelf as we speak!) so that it looks nice enough to be put in a real home!
