Fab Freebie: Sunny Side Up

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries.***

If you’re a Richmonder, you might’ve already deciphered that the Sunny mentioned in this morning’s Reader Redesign is none other than local paint heroine Sunny Goode. Heck, even non-locals with a good memory might have picked up on it since Sunny’s name has popped up more than once on YHL, like when we house crashed this Domino-featured home that sported Sunny’s signature stenciled paint treatment on her floors:

Sunny Give Katie Floor

Or when we dropped in on her store, Sunny’s Goodtime Paints, a couple of years ago:

Sunny Give Store 2

Sunny Give Store

Plus we even got to sneak a peek of one of her newest creations: the floor at the soon-to-be open children’s consignment boutique called Clover located in Richmond’s Carytown district. Sidenote: we’ll be showcasing even more inspiration from this stunning shop soon because it’s chock full of awesome (and doable!) ideas.

Sunny Give Clover Floor

But in case you’re still in the dark about just how talented and inspiring Sunny is, allow us to shine a little light on the subject. Sunny serves up a boatload of tools and inspiration to make your next paint job work a little harder when it comes to creating a more unique, playful, personal, and beautiful space. We know her best for her stencils, color washes, and stains- which can bring some much-needed pattern to a blank floor or wall. But she’s also got monograms, decals, and even two books (Paint Can! and its kid-tastic sidekick).

Sunny Give Product Four

So because Sunny has so much fun stuff to dish out, we’re excited to announce that TWO lucky winners will score an $100 shopping spree. So you have the chance to snag whatever goodies catch your eye on her site the most! And the rest of you will be able to cash in on a pretty sweet discount too (stay tuned for those details on Thurs). But enough jibber-jabber. Here are all the deets:

  • PRIZE: $100 towards anything from Sunny’s Goodtime Paints
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SHINE ON ME!” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … help us get the creative painting juices flowing and share your favorite use of paint (whether it’s something you’ve done or just something you’ve seen). Is it a surprisingly stellar color combo? An object that was totally transformed by a few brushstrokes? Or perhaps a painted pattern or stencil that really make the room?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, July 21st at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The lower 48 United States
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics courtesy of Sunny’s Goodtime Paints.

    SHINE ON ME!!!!!!

Currently I’m transforming my outdated butter yellow TV cabinet to a beautiful color by Behr called Cloud Burst. The piece looks completely different and perfect for the room all for around the cost of a can of primer…the paint I had left over from another project.

I love the use of a dark grey, plum or even black on walls, but only if it’s a large room. It’s so dramatic and unexpected, and with the right accent colors in the accessories it can look stunning!

We have a surprising splash of color in our Laundry room at our new house. Most of the house was done in warm mochas, tans and taupes to keep a warm, comforting feeling, but I went for a Tame Teal in the Laundry room to make me smile. Heck- if I have to be in there often, why not pick a color I love!?

I just love how paint can totally transform a room without breaking the bank! Our house, which we just purchased about 8 months ago, is painted all the same color (beige) so we are slowly transforming the different spaces in our home with paint!

I knew it would have something to do with her store! I love looking over all the awesome things on her site!

Also, I hate to sound brown-nosey, but I think my favorite use of paint is when you use it to make something your own – the way you guys did with Clara’s mirror! I love taking an item found at the store, maybe something that doesn’t exactly “go” in your home, and then painting it to completely change the feel of the item and make it yours. Love it!

Long live paint!! My fav paint job in my house includes two hum drum grayish metal file cabinets that looked like they belonged in a military bunker in the desert or something…but, spray painted in a high-gloss cherryish red? Perfection. I have two in my home office :)

The exterior of our house was totally transformed when we changed to colors from 70/80’s burnt sienna/chocolate brown, to an earthy golden beige/forest green.

    Shine on me!

I re-painted my ex-boyfriends bathroom an awesome, vibrant teal color that I was obsessed with at the time (photo here: http://www.sassandfrass.com/post/405877256/this-is-a-blue-bathroom) but all of his friends gave him a really hard time about it (something about it not being manly enough). After we broke up I felt really bad about leaving him with a girly teal bathroom and offered to paint it back, but he insists that he still likes it. Maybe if he put back up the football photos I made him take down it would feel manly again.

I love painting furniture and I have at least 1 painted piece in each room. It’s the perfect way to add a pop of color or spruce up an old piece that no longer works in a space. And my favorite thing about paint…so much bang for your buck!!

SHINE ON ME! I love to paint my furniture. I repainted an old armoire a rustic burnt red for my kitchen. It was only $20 originally from Cragslist and has been one of my favorite peices in my home since I painted it! Add’s a ton of color to the colorless walls of my rental.

My favorite use of paint was to transform two bedside tables of mine. I sanded them, sprayed them a semi-flat black and swapped out the hardware on the drawers. They went from Mission style to something out of the Restoration Hardware catalog.

    SHINE ON ME!

In one of the homes I grew up in, my mom covered an entire accent wall with one inch navy and white stripes, then added tiny navy dots the entire length of each white stripe. I can’t actually remember if the result turned out well (it all sounds kind of busy/insane), but I remember the time she spent there, painting, when I could grab a chair and chat with her for hours on end.

SHINE ON ME! My favorite use of paint was transforming a handmade dresser built by my husband’s grandfather. It used to be this orangish/rustyish color that I think might have been tractor paint with mismatching (and even some missing) wooden knobs. It is now a much more soothing and beautiful chocolate brown!
