Fab Freebie: Skulloween

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

We began getting into the Halloween spirit last week (and there’s more where that came from) so we thought we’d use this week’s freebie to give one lucky person to chance to add some serious spook to their space. And we’re doing it thanks to two of our favorite collaborators: Skull-A-Day and Cardboard Safari.

Skull-A-Day is the brainchild of our good friend Noah Scalin. His yearlong project of creating skulls out of ordinary (pencils, rice) and not-so-ordinary (butterflies, vegemite) materials begat a Webby-award winning website, a book, art exhibits, an appearance on Martha Stewart and a whole bunch of other cool stuff. And now this local celeb is offering up two skull-tastic art prints for one lucky reader – the United Skull of America print (it’s a skull made out of US states!) and an Ornamental Skull print (in all of its ornate glory) – which will both bring some eerie style to your home this month (and the other eleven if you’re so inclined).

Plus, this week’s winner will score two great pieces from Cardboard Safari, who you may remember from their rhino / rocket giveaway a few months ago. This time they’re dishing out their Halloween designs – the spooky skull wreath and the tabletop puzzle skull (which was designed by Noah, btw). Both are made from recycled cardboard, in your choice of brown or white (which can also be painted any color you please).

Skull Cardboard Safari

Wanna score this eerily entertaining gift pack? Here’s how:

  • PRIZE: United Skull of America & Ornamental Skull prints from Skull-A-Day, Skull Wreath & Puzzle Skull from Cardboard Safari
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SKULL ME” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …tell us about your best / favorite / weirdest Halloween costume of all time. Links to pictures are encouraged. :)
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, October 14th at 8pm EST
  • PRIZE SHIPS: USA only
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

Just very boring costumes growing up …. cheerleader, bunny, ghost. My favorite was when I was Laura Ingalls from Little House On The Prairie. Love that show!

Skull me!!! These are awesome freebies!

Best costume as a kid: Ghostbuster. Best Costume as adult: Flower – foot long “petals” surrounded my face, held in place by the green hooded sweatshirt. Actually, that costume got a lot of wear at non-Halloween times too.

My husband will be so stoked if I win this. Now that he’s seen them, he’ll probably be buying them anyway.

I’m always a pirate, which isn’t all that exciting I guess. But I would like to state for the record that I was dressing up as a pirate way before Johnny Depp. And he doesn’t have a handmade corset in his pirate ensemble. (Actually, knowing him, he probably does…oh, Johnny…)

SKULL ME! I think my favorite costume was the Bride of Frankenstein. I wore my black college choir dress, covered my face, neck and hands in white make up and used an eyeliner pencil to “stitch” my skin. I have a lot of hair which came in handy when creating the lighting strike up-do. Very memorable!

We won our school Halloween Costume Contest; we were the best looking couple at the carnival, so SKULL ME!!!

I once was a bunch of grapes. The costume was bright green tights and leotard, an extra large extra long burgundy t-shirt, and a ton of balloons, burgundy of course. It was great…
When the evening was finished, we got to pop all the balloons…

For Halloween in the third grade I was Glenda the Good Witch from the Wizard of Oz. We went to the thrift store and got a pink bridesmaid dress which my mom took in to my size. I also had the tall crown with the stars and a wand. I won prettiest costume in our Halloween parade that year. I was pretty proud of myself.

    SKULL ME!

In the 9th grade I sewed a medieval costume. Some background is required: I went to Waldorf schools but had been homeschooling for the past year. My regular-school friend invited me to a Halloween party. My mom suggested I dress up my costume with garlic and wear fake warts on my face and go as a victim of the plague. “It’s scarier that way” my mom ever-so=innocently suggested. So I did and it was just like in Mean Girls: All the public school girls were scantily clad and there I was with my fake warts peeling off and 15 garlic bulbs strung around my neck. Amazingly, I still got hit on and was actually asked out on a date by a kid nicknamed Ferris.

So, last year, we dug out Dog again, but this time I went as one of the junkies he is so great at capturing. That costume was way more fun!

My best costume as an adult was probably the year I was a gypsy. That one was really fun, with the coins all draped around my waist and gobs of crazy makeup and jangly bracelets.

But, the best ever was when I was… a year and a half? old and I was a devil for Halloween. The pictures show me all decked out in horns and a cape, with a pacifier firmly wedged in my mouth. Scary, huh? :)
