Fab Freebie: Skulloween

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

We began getting into the Halloween spirit last week (and there’s more where that came from) so we thought we’d use this week’s freebie to give one lucky person to chance to add some serious spook to their space. And we’re doing it thanks to two of our favorite collaborators: Skull-A-Day and Cardboard Safari.

Skull-A-Day is the brainchild of our good friend Noah Scalin. His yearlong project of creating skulls out of ordinary (pencils, rice) and not-so-ordinary (butterflies, vegemite) materials begat a Webby-award winning website, a book, art exhibits, an appearance on Martha Stewart and a whole bunch of other cool stuff. And now this local celeb is offering up two skull-tastic art prints for one lucky reader – the United Skull of America print (it’s a skull made out of US states!) and an Ornamental Skull print (in all of its ornate glory) – which will both bring some eerie style to your home this month (and the other eleven if you’re so inclined).

Plus, this week’s winner will score two great pieces from Cardboard Safari, who you may remember from their rhino / rocket giveaway a few months ago. This time they’re dishing out their Halloween designs – the spooky skull wreath and the tabletop puzzle skull (which was designed by Noah, btw). Both are made from recycled cardboard, in your choice of brown or white (which can also be painted any color you please).

Skull Cardboard Safari

Wanna score this eerily entertaining gift pack? Here’s how:

  • PRIZE: United Skull of America & Ornamental Skull prints from Skull-A-Day, Skull Wreath & Puzzle Skull from Cardboard Safari
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SKULL ME” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …tell us about your best / favorite / weirdest Halloween costume of all time. Links to pictures are encouraged. :)
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, October 14th at 8pm EST
  • PRIZE SHIPS: USA only
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

Skull ME!!! My favorite costume that I wore was Amy Winehouse a couple years back. My sister is a hairstylist and she fashioned a giant beehive wig for me and I had Amy’s tattoos recreated on me by a friend. It was a fun night! Moral to the story: Don’t do drugs, kids!

Back in my elementary days, I was Yeehhawwing as a cowgirl. My fringe skirt, cowboy boots and fake guns made the costume.

ok, so not maybe my proudest costume, but the makeup was awesome and i was truly scary. my hubby is great at applying the prosthetic face pieces (and good at the zombie stuff with making it look like your skin is coming off…i know, gross, right??!) – but i put on these horns and wore these incredible bat wings and all black and i was pretty crazy looking. here’s a link to the ‘arty’ photo of just my face. (sorry for the scary gene simmons tongue thing i was doing. :/ ) http://hucklebuck.badmouth.net/2001/10/devil-girl/

Best costume was the rounder-than-I-was-tall pumpkin suit, which caused me to fall and roll and roll and roll….wait. Maybe that was the worst.

My favorite costume was when I went as a gothic Queen Elizabeth the First. I had to wear the costume for a month for work and it took me 2 hours to do hair and makeup every morning, but I looked fabulous (and sold all of that costume within a week)

SKULL ME! Last year, my husband bought an actual set of armor- heavy, 300 Movie-type armor, which he was really excited to wear. The beer and wine store down the street from us sent out an email that said that anyone who came to their weekly Friday night beer tasting in costume would be entered to win a set of six Duvel glasses- something Jeff had been coveting for months. He put on his full armor, clanked down the street wearing it, and showed up, where the people at the store laughed at us and said that NOBODY else had come in costume. Needless to say, we won the glasses!

In college my boyfriend (now husband) and I dressed up as Spam Cans! Using PVC pipe, navy fleece and craft foam, we created huge spam can costumes. We completed the outfit with Spam memorabilia flip flops and ski caps. It was hilarious, however difficult to walk around a bar without bumping into everything!

Our favorite costumes were on our 3rd date. It was for a halloween party at the bar my husband managed. I showed up dressed as a playboy bunny, and he went to work as a playboy talent scout (had an “official Play Boy Talent Scout” button down, black shirt, and black leather pants with his hair all slicked back. LOL)

One year my younger brother put on a piece or two of each halloween costume from years past (picture peter pan hat, witch’s nose, vampire cape, etc.). When people asked him what he was, he said “confused.” It was a big hit.

Haven’t really had any weird costumes per se, but I’ve had some really awful ideas. Like the ill-fated year I went as Roller Girl from Boogie Nights because I wanted to wear roller skates. One sprained wrist later it was November 1st.

SKULL ME…One year we dressed up as the Queen of Hearts and the Mad Hatter. Totally DIY and very last minute, my skirt was a big red felt wrap with cut out hearts and a dollar store princess crown. The boyfriend could only find a hat that was a cross between some weird 70’s number and a pimp…(a purplish crushed velvet). Needless to say we didn’t win best costume; but we only spent about $10:)
