Fab Freebie: Sew Simple

***This giveaway is now closed – see who won below!***

After clocking 10,000 entries under 24 hours, we’re already back to crown a random winner of the SINGER One sewing machine. The lucky person is… Angela (who says she’s a 1 on the sewing skills scale: “I can sew a straight line, but only if someone threads the machine for me first”). Congrats!

I’ve never touched a sewing machine in my life, but I’ve heard Sherry’s passionate muttering from the next room while using hers. Which is why anything labeled “Our easiest to use machine!” sounds compelling. And we’re so (sew?) excited that Singer is helping us give away a SINGER One – a feature-packed sewing machine that retails for nearly $500 – to one lucky reader! Something about an Automatic Needle Threader and OneTouch stitch selection sounds “approachable.” Plus the 24-available stitch patterns makes me believe you could fake your way into some pretty fancy stuff. Oh, and did we mention that Singer will ship this puppy anywhere in the world?

Singer One Giveaway

  • PRIZE: A SINGER One sewing machine (a $499 value!)
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SEW ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …where do you rank yourself on the sewing skills continuum? Are you a 1 like me (I couldn’t sew my way out of a bag)? A self-proclaimed 3 like Sherry (who could probably make “a wonky bag”)? Or are you more like a 10 (who could not only sew a bag from scratch, but do so blindfolded)?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, Dec 12th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: This giveaway is available worldwide (we always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond the US – more on that here).
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
  • ***COMMENT ISSUES? If you’re trying to enter but keep getting a “duplicate comment” warning, click here to see how to solve it!

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of SINGER.

    SEW ME!

I’m probably a two – I made myself an apron the summer after 7th grade and proudly wore it all the next year in 8th grade home ec. That was the last time I sewed, and I don’t want to reveal exactly how many years ago that was.

I’m a 1, but it’s on my list of things to learn, especially so I can tackle simple projects like hemming pants and making some sweet curtains and pillows!

SEW ME!! I’m a 1 on a good day. At best, I can (sloppily) sew a button onto a shirt if one falls off. But usually I just throw that shirt away because…too hard!!

Hmmm… I think maybe a 4 on a good day. I can make curtains (basically rectangles) all day long, but anything more than that requires A LOT of effort on my part. I did make an adorable dinosaur hoodie for a friend’s daughter, but it was super easy.

SEW ME! I would say I’m around a 4. It’s been a while since I’ve done too much with my machine as something is going on with the tension or type of bobbin I’m using. No fun when every time I start sewing, the thread gets all bound up and wonky.

I don’t even want to enter myself for the raffle because I already own a sewing machine. But I do want to congratulate you on your awesomely nerdy clip art teaser from last Friday’s post. I had to go back and look at it again once I saw the raffle go up. A little on the cheesy side – but I love it!

I’m probably in the middle, maybe a 6. I’ve created some wearable outfits for my little girls but even with my “new” hand me down machine it’s not easy. Would love a good one and really would make curtains. I live it a fish bowl, right on the road, at a stop sign :(

SEW ME!! I’d say I’m around a 5? I did Home Ec in school, and we learned how to sew there. I made a waistcoat! I’d LOVE a sewing machine to do things around the house — make curtains, cushions, and do clothes alterations and repairs. It’d be brilliant!

    SEW ME!!!!!

I would say I’m a 1.5. I grew up with my mom and she was an avid and quite good seamstress. She would make clothes that I wasn’t too keen on. But now looking back on everything she made me I wish I payed attention more. I am itching to learn how to sew. This would be the perfect jumping off point. And good bonding I the process.

I am probably about a 3 on the sewing skill level. I took a beginner’s class last year at a local fabric store and managed to make a purse and some pajama pants. After that, I was able to make two more pairs of pants (although I did have some major trouble following the pattern — maybe I should be a 2), but I haven’t sewn anything since. I would love to have my own machine to learn on!

    “SEW ME!” PLEASE!!

I’m closer to a 1. I’m recently very interested to learn to sew. My good friend helped me a few months back sew burp cloths and ever since then I keep finding projects I want someone to do with me (or for me at this stage) :) As an adult, not learning to sew from my grandmother is one of my deepest regrets since she’s no longer able to teach me.
