Fab Freebie: Sew Simple

***This giveaway is now closed – see who won below!***

After clocking 10,000 entries under 24 hours, we’re already back to crown a random winner of the SINGER One sewing machine. The lucky person is… Angela (who says she’s a 1 on the sewing skills scale: “I can sew a straight line, but only if someone threads the machine for me first”). Congrats!

I’ve never touched a sewing machine in my life, but I’ve heard Sherry’s passionate muttering from the next room while using hers. Which is why anything labeled “Our easiest to use machine!” sounds compelling. And we’re so (sew?) excited that Singer is helping us give away a SINGER One – a feature-packed sewing machine that retails for nearly $500 – to one lucky reader! Something about an Automatic Needle Threader and OneTouch stitch selection sounds “approachable.” Plus the 24-available stitch patterns makes me believe you could fake your way into some pretty fancy stuff. Oh, and did we mention that Singer will ship this puppy anywhere in the world?

Singer One Giveaway

  • PRIZE: A SINGER One sewing machine (a $499 value!)
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SEW ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …where do you rank yourself on the sewing skills continuum? Are you a 1 like me (I couldn’t sew my way out of a bag)? A self-proclaimed 3 like Sherry (who could probably make “a wonky bag”)? Or are you more like a 10 (who could not only sew a bag from scratch, but do so blindfolded)?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, Dec 12th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: This giveaway is available worldwide (we always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond the US – more on that here).
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
  • ***COMMENT ISSUES? If you’re trying to enter but keep getting a “duplicate comment” warning, click here to see how to solve it!

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of SINGER.

    SEW ME!

I’m probably a 2, but I have high hopes of sewing/altering my own clothes, making things I find on pinterest/blogs, and reupholstering furniture too! This machine can help me do all that, right? lol! – I know I’m gonna have to work hard at it, but it’s been a goal of mine to do this and I’m really excited about this giveaway. Whether I win or not, though, I’m gonna get a machine and do it!

SEW ME! I’d say I’m about a 4 on the sewing skills level, I vaguely remember making a pair of pajamas with my grandmother years ago (the kind with long sleeves, too many buttons, pretty cuffs and all) but right now I just need to make some curtains for our obnoxiously odd-sized windows, and a few throw pillows :-)

    Sew me!

I am a solid 1, having never sewed more than a straight line (for a blanket) in my life. A sewing machine is on my Christmas list, though, as I have ambitions for becoming a 2 or maybe even a 3.

Sew me! I am maybe a 1.5? I asked for a sewing machine for Christmas so I can improve my skills a bit, but not sure I’m going to get one-this would be great!

    SEW ME!

I would probably say I’m a 5 or 6, I know how to use one and have even tackled things like skirts, pillows, bags and curtains – but I could definitely improve. I have an old hand-me-down machine that is broken; I would love a nice shiny new one :).

SEW ME! I’m a 1.5. Maybe a 2 on a good day. I have had the pleasure of learning how to re-thread the bobbin via phone….with my Dad. He only knew how because he had spent many times helping my mom figure it out (who is probably an 8). I had inherited her old machine and dad managed to make it work on the phone. I thought that was pretty impressive!

SEW ME! I’m a 1, but my husband thinks he is a 9 and actually wants a sewing machine for Christmas! He wants to be able to buy pants and hem them for himself and the kids. He still talks about the winter jacket he made in middle school! haha!

SEW ME. . I can sew simple things by hand, but can’t use a machine. My mother was an excellent seamstress and I always hoped she’d teach me to sew someday (as a child it was all so confusing when I attempted to learn). Sadly she died of ovarian cancer 4 years ago and was sick for the previous 4 years, so we never had the chance. I’d really love to learn to sew with a machine and know that she would be so proud.

I’d say I’m a 4. I always need someone to tell me how to use the machine, and then I can sew pretty much anything. Well, more like pretty much anything I have actually tried.

Well, maybe around the 5 range depending on how many of my kids are in the room at the time trying to “help”. My little girls may cry with joy if I won a sewing machine as I told them when I get a new machine they can have mine. Our fingers are crossed. :)

SEW ME! I wish I were up to a 3…maybe a 2.5 these days? Straight lines are my friends. My sewing experience is limited to my grandmother’s (now mine)Singer Featherweight circa 1940-something. My grandmother was a 10 with that thing! I’ve got some work to do, but can’t wait to take on new projects!

I’d say I’m a 2. I made a quilt when I was 10. I consider it my crowning achievement, how much more could I possibly accomplish? However, if I won I sewing machine it might mean I will (try to) make shams for the two nekkid pillows on my sofa right now!

I would rate myself as generally competent but not generally experienced, so a 7, I guess? I can do English paper piecing like a fiend, and am pretty great at simple machine sewing, but I am mostly just making things up as I go. I have AMBITIONS when it comes to sewing projects.

I think having a nice machine (as opposed to the jankety one I have been working with) would do wonders for my ability to do complicated projects.
