Fab Freebie: Sew Simple

***This giveaway is now closed – see who won below!***

After clocking 10,000 entries under 24 hours, we’re already back to crown a random winner of the SINGER One sewing machine. The lucky person is… Angela (who says she’s a 1 on the sewing skills scale: “I can sew a straight line, but only if someone threads the machine for me first”). Congrats!

I’ve never touched a sewing machine in my life, but I’ve heard Sherry’s passionate muttering from the next room while using hers. Which is why anything labeled “Our easiest to use machine!” sounds compelling. And we’re so (sew?) excited that Singer is helping us give away a SINGER One – a feature-packed sewing machine that retails for nearly $500 – to one lucky reader! Something about an Automatic Needle Threader and OneTouch stitch selection sounds “approachable.” Plus the 24-available stitch patterns makes me believe you could fake your way into some pretty fancy stuff. Oh, and did we mention that Singer will ship this puppy anywhere in the world?

Singer One Giveaway

  • PRIZE: A SINGER One sewing machine (a $499 value!)
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SEW ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …where do you rank yourself on the sewing skills continuum? Are you a 1 like me (I couldn’t sew my way out of a bag)? A self-proclaimed 3 like Sherry (who could probably make “a wonky bag”)? Or are you more like a 10 (who could not only sew a bag from scratch, but do so blindfolded)?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, Dec 12th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: This giveaway is available worldwide (we always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond the US – more on that here).
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
  • ***COMMENT ISSUES? If you’re trying to enter but keep getting a “duplicate comment” warning, click here to see how to solve it!

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of SINGER.

Sew Me!!! I’m totally a number 1 like you John! In fact, I wanted to take sewing classes at the beginning of 2013. Winning a sewing machine would be a great way to start the new year and keep my resolution!

SEW ME! I’m a 1 too John! In fact, I am so a 1 that I’ve even broken a sewing machine trying to figure out how to use the darn thing! So I’d love this machine and maybe I’d get lessons!

I am a beginner like Sherry. I can sew a basic bag and other things that call for straight lines. I cannot sew ruffles but I want to learn more!

I would say I’m about a 3-4 on the sewing abilities scale. My White sewing machine from the 1950s (purchased for $30 at an antique booth at a festival) can only sew one type of stitch, forward or backward, so this Singer would be a dream to own!

Sew Me!!! I’m probably about a 2 :) Took a sewing class in 7th grade and wasn’t too shabby. But I would need to start from scratch and relearn it again. But hopefully, if I learned it once I could learn it again and goodness knows my house would look a lot better if I learned how to sew… again! :)

Sew me! I’ve had two different sewing machines – one was old and free but the thread tension needs adjusted every 0.0002 seconds or it jams up, and the other is an old sewing machine table I got for $12 which runs, but only has one speed (way too fast to see what I’m doing). So I’m still very much a sewing beginner; I’ve finished some quilt blocks but everything else is just too frustrating. Having a new sewing machine would be amazing though, hopefully I could actually get some stuff done!

I’d say I’m a 1 – can sew by hand but haven’t really tried with a machine (other than home ec in 7th grade). How is Sherry only a 3? She made that ottoman for Clara’s room!! I’ve always wanted a sewing machine!!

I would say I’m a 3-4 on the sewing scale. In middle school I took a class called “Family, Food and Friends” that was basically home economics and I learned how to sew badly.

But, I’m a mom now and I would like to someday sew halloween costumes and the like!

SEW ME! I’d be at about a 1.5. I used to handstitch clothes for my Barbies, but that’s about it. My mom made dresses (even prom) for me growing up and now quilts like it’s going out of style. Is it in style? Needless to say, I’ve been thinking about getting a sewing machine and teaching myself.

    SEW ME

I have medium skills on a sewing machine – maybe a 6-7. My mom sewed all kinds of things for my sister and me when we were young (not our underwear though – Grandma did that!), she made my prom dresses, she made the bridesmaids’ dresses for my sister’s wedding, she makes fun things for my kids, etc. Through watching her while growing up, I picked up the basics. She could do the bag blindfolded, I could maybe do it one-handed (though it might look a little wonky).

Sadly I’m a 1.5. Ambitiously a couple of years ago I invested in sewing lessons at a fancy fabric and sewing shop because at the time I didn’t even know how to sew a button on and my dry cleaning lady continually made fun of me (I know, sad but true). So, today I could PROBABLY sew a button if I had to, but my investment in sewing lessons (and the bag and shirt I made during the lessons) just didn’t stick. So I’m a solid 1.5. Higher than a 1 because I’ve had some formal training. Lower than a 2+ because the training just didn’t stick. Oh and SEW ME!!

I’m probably a 2. I can weave the thread in and out of easy fabrics in a somewhat straight line and sometimes I can thread the needle without licking the thread. The only thing that separates this gal from a ‘1’ is Girl Scout badge skills. :)
