Fab Freebie: Sew Simple

***This giveaway is now closed – see who won below!***

After clocking 10,000 entries under 24 hours, we’re already back to crown a random winner of the SINGER One sewing machine. The lucky person is… Angela (who says she’s a 1 on the sewing skills scale: “I can sew a straight line, but only if someone threads the machine for me first”). Congrats!

I’ve never touched a sewing machine in my life, but I’ve heard Sherry’s passionate muttering from the next room while using hers. Which is why anything labeled “Our easiest to use machine!” sounds compelling. And we’re so (sew?) excited that Singer is helping us give away a SINGER One – a feature-packed sewing machine that retails for nearly $500 – to one lucky reader! Something about an Automatic Needle Threader and OneTouch stitch selection sounds “approachable.” Plus the 24-available stitch patterns makes me believe you could fake your way into some pretty fancy stuff. Oh, and did we mention that Singer will ship this puppy anywhere in the world?

Singer One Giveaway

  • PRIZE: A SINGER One sewing machine (a $499 value!)
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SEW ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …where do you rank yourself on the sewing skills continuum? Are you a 1 like me (I couldn’t sew my way out of a bag)? A self-proclaimed 3 like Sherry (who could probably make “a wonky bag”)? Or are you more like a 10 (who could not only sew a bag from scratch, but do so blindfolded)?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, Dec 12th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: This giveaway is available worldwide (we always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond the US – more on that here).
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
  • ***COMMENT ISSUES? If you’re trying to enter but keep getting a “duplicate comment” warning, click here to see how to solve it!

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of SINGER.

SEW ME! I would say I am around a 2…I can sew general things, like a straight line, but the whole bobbin and mechanisms confuse me! If I won this, I would follow it up with a course at my local sewing center for sure! :)

I’m a 4. I made my barbies full on aerobics outfits as well as Montreal style fur and wool coats back in my pre-teen days. I think it would come back fast. First I’d make seat cushions and then maybe some curtains.

I’m definitely a 1. I am totally bananas for knitting but I envy my sewing friends who can bang out a skirt or a bag in one afternoon. I’d like to get on that instant gratification train!

SEW ME! I might have been a 6 before life got more complex with kids and work, and I quit sewing anything but replacement buttons. I am retiring in three weeks and I want to begin again. My portable 1976 Viking Husqvarna(sp)was a great machine, but it has frozen up, and anyway, it weighs a ton and I can barely lift it.

Sew Me! I’m about a 3 as well. Simple stuff for me. Curtains, simple Halloween costumes, mostly straight line sewing. But I might try something more complicated with a machine like that.

SEW Me! I’m a 1.5, I can do a little hand sewing and I have very vague memories of how to use a sewing machine from home ec in junior high…last time I sewed anything was just after college when I made myself a wonder woman skirt for a costume party. I’d love to refresh my memory and get back to it. : )

I’m a 3. I can sew simple, square things, like curtains and pillows. I can’t sew any clothing. Wish I knew how to do more hand-sewing, like mending.

I’m probably a 3 or a 4. I sewed once, as a kid, but desperately want to pick it up again. I watched my mom make clothes for all us kids and she even made my homecoming dress two years in a row. So some of that has to be genetic, right? I have been lusting after a sewing machine for years but haven’t been able to plunk down the cash.

SEW ME! I would rate myself as a 4.5. I took a sewing class in college and did fairly well but since I have only been able to work on “vintage” sewing machines who might have seen their better days! This handy little machine might raise my rating a little bit!!

I’m probably a 4/5. I can use a pattern and follow directions well but I don’t know if I could create anything on my own, especially if it calls for anything more than a straight line. I have my mom’s old machine but now it’s making weird noises. I need a new one badly!
