Fab Freebie: Sew Simple

***This giveaway is now closed – see who won below!***

After clocking 10,000 entries under 24 hours, we’re already back to crown a random winner of the SINGER One sewing machine. The lucky person is… Angela (who says she’s a 1 on the sewing skills scale: “I can sew a straight line, but only if someone threads the machine for me first”). Congrats!

I’ve never touched a sewing machine in my life, but I’ve heard Sherry’s passionate muttering from the next room while using hers. Which is why anything labeled “Our easiest to use machine!” sounds compelling. And we’re so (sew?) excited that Singer is helping us give away a SINGER One – a feature-packed sewing machine that retails for nearly $500 – to one lucky reader! Something about an Automatic Needle Threader and OneTouch stitch selection sounds “approachable.” Plus the 24-available stitch patterns makes me believe you could fake your way into some pretty fancy stuff. Oh, and did we mention that Singer will ship this puppy anywhere in the world?

Singer One Giveaway

  • PRIZE: A SINGER One sewing machine (a $499 value!)
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SEW ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …where do you rank yourself on the sewing skills continuum? Are you a 1 like me (I couldn’t sew my way out of a bag)? A self-proclaimed 3 like Sherry (who could probably make “a wonky bag”)? Or are you more like a 10 (who could not only sew a bag from scratch, but do so blindfolded)?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, Dec 12th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: This giveaway is available worldwide (we always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond the US – more on that here).
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
  • ***COMMENT ISSUES? If you’re trying to enter but keep getting a “duplicate comment” warning, click here to see how to solve it!

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of SINGER.

    SEW ME!

I asked my boyfriend for a sewing machine for Christmas, but Lord knows he’ll have a heck of a time trying to pick one out. This would solve his problem for sure! I took home ec in high school.. learned a bit.. and have been itching to learn more lately – I would say I’m about a two or three. This would be fantastic! It’s pretty chilly up here in Saskatchewan and I could certainly use this to sew some nice warm blankets for the loooong winter ahead :)

Sew me! I’d say I’m a good 3. I can mend, sew from a pattern and sometimes can even freestyle. i would love a machine that I didn’t pick up from a garage sale that can help get me sewing more often!

    Sew me!

I come from a long line of women who sew fabulously. As a child I learned how to make doll clothes and quilts, but it took too much patience and precision so I gave it up quickly. Lately, after getting married and starting a home of our own, I’ve been thinking about picking it back up and relearning. I’d currently rate my skill level at a wiggly-line 4. ;)

I’m a 3. This weekend I reached the point where I used a zigzag stitch, can rethread the machine without looking at the manual, and sewed with an almost 3 year old on my lap. For those reasons I upgraded myself to a 3…with the dreams of being a 20. : )

If 3 would mean being able of sewing a wonky bag… I probably would be a 1 or maybe 2. I actually sewed with a machine only once, to make the curtains in our living room and kitchen. The result is pretty good considering it was my first time, but borrowing a machine every time is a mess. Maybe I am lucky this time :P

I’d rank myself at around a 5. I can stitch up some basic items and once made a skirt although I was almost too worried to wear it once finished just in case it suddenly came apart! (I would always carry a spare – shop bought – skirt with me when I did dare to put it on!)

I am probably a 1 now. I took sewing in 6th grade, which was longer ago than I’d like to admit (OMG, 24 years – why did I stop to calculate that????) I will have to start fresh, read the manual and ask my MIL for help w/ patterns.
