Fab Freebie: Sew Simple

***This giveaway is now closed – see who won below!***

After clocking 10,000 entries under 24 hours, we’re already back to crown a random winner of the SINGER One sewing machine. The lucky person is… Angela (who says she’s a 1 on the sewing skills scale: “I can sew a straight line, but only if someone threads the machine for me first”). Congrats!

I’ve never touched a sewing machine in my life, but I’ve heard Sherry’s passionate muttering from the next room while using hers. Which is why anything labeled “Our easiest to use machine!” sounds compelling. And we’re so (sew?) excited that Singer is helping us give away a SINGER One – a feature-packed sewing machine that retails for nearly $500 – to one lucky reader! Something about an Automatic Needle Threader and OneTouch stitch selection sounds “approachable.” Plus the 24-available stitch patterns makes me believe you could fake your way into some pretty fancy stuff. Oh, and did we mention that Singer will ship this puppy anywhere in the world?

Singer One Giveaway

  • PRIZE: A SINGER One sewing machine (a $499 value!)
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SEW ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …where do you rank yourself on the sewing skills continuum? Are you a 1 like me (I couldn’t sew my way out of a bag)? A self-proclaimed 3 like Sherry (who could probably make “a wonky bag”)? Or are you more like a 10 (who could not only sew a bag from scratch, but do so blindfolded)?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, Dec 12th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: This giveaway is available worldwide (we always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond the US – more on that here).
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
  • ***COMMENT ISSUES? If you’re trying to enter but keep getting a “duplicate comment” warning, click here to see how to solve it!

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of SINGER.

SEW ME! My sewing skills are pretty basic – I always get confused when I have to re-thread the machine. I stick with sewing straight lines!

Sew me! I just sewed curtains for our new guest bedroom and my presser foot isn’t working correctly! I’d say I’m a 5 but I rarely do anything that is complicated and if I do, I ask my mom for help. :-)

I’ll go with a 4. My pillow cases won’t come out wonky but sewing a pair of fitted anything will be! I used to take classes when I was younger and would love love love to re-learn and be able to bring to life the sweet fabric filled dreams that I am having right now.

In high school I got stuck in an elective called “The Principals of Clothing” (abbreviated PrinceCloth on my schedule) and thought, “what in the world is THAT?!” It ended up being a class on quilting and I actually love, love, loved it. Not only did we have a laid back teacher who would let us wander around the courtyard with friends when we were not feeling productive, but I learned a lot and make two awesome quilts. When I finished the class, I borrowed my mom’s sewing machine. She made most of her clothes when she was younger and taught me how to make these cute, fluffy, three-tiered skirts in funky patterns. Pretty soon, the girls at school started asking if they could commission me to make skirts for them too. I never did, because it took hours and hours just to make one, but I did let my friends borrow mine. I had a chili pepper skirt, a red skirt with white polka dots, a pink and ivory striped skirt that I called my “party skirt” and more. I haven’t touched a sewing machine since, but every time I look for new curtains, I swear I will just buy a sewing machine before I pay $80 per panel! :) So, I’d rate myself as a 5- I’ve got the essentials, but I’m surely rusty. My bag would probably be just as wonky as Sherry’s.

SEW ME!! I’m probably a two maybe. It’s been a LONG time since I used a sewing machine, but I have made a couple pillows and such in the past. I’ve really been wanting one lately to slightly alter clothes (nothing ever fits me) and make some fun things.

I think I rank at a nice 5: I’ve made bags, simple crib quilts, and aprons fairly easily, but I’m working on a full-size quilt right now and I’m seriously considering retiring from them. I need a new machine badly since mine is a cheapy I bought in a pinch when my vintage machine died on me.

SEW ME! I’m currently about a 2 on the scale. I have an ooold high school home economics sewing machine from the 1970’s that my mother-in-law gave me, and the only thing I’ve ever successfully sewed on it are a handful of cornhole bean bags.
