Fab Freebie: More Than Words

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below (along with some sweet discounts)!***

Before we announce our winners, let’s first get to two consolation prizes: discounts! Get 15% off your WordGarden order with code YoungHouseLove15 and get 15% off of your Everywhere We Look order with code YHL15.

As for our two winners, random.org has selected… Leah (who “definitely” loves typographic art) and Rebecca A. (who loves books and typographic art – which seemed to be a trend). Congrats ladies!

This week’s pair of prizes (for a pair of winners, no less) come from two Etsy sellers who have a way with words. Namely, they turn the written word into stylish pieces for your home. The first of which, WordGarden, takes text and graphics to give simple pillows a chic European flair – from bicycles and birdcages to his and hers sets. And two of you will be scoring a pair of pillows in any size and any design.

Word Garden Pillows

The other half of this week’s prize comes from Everywhere We Look, who creates book page wreaths that could be right out of Anthropologie. And each of this week’s winners will get a large-sized wreath (i.e over 250 pages turned into a 21″ wreath) that’s custom made just for them.

Everywhere We Look Wreath

  • PRIZE: Two pillows of any size from WordGarden and a large custom wreath from Everywhere We Look
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “WORD ME!” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … tell us what form you particularly love seeing words take? Are you a sucker for typographic art (like me)? Have you never met a funny t-shirt or bumper sticker that you didn’t like? Do song lyrics do it for you? Or are you a traditionalist and simply love words in books, poems, and love notes?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, July 20th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The United States and Canada
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday morning for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We weren’t paid or perk’d for hosting this giveaway, we just take them on to reward our lovely readers! See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics from WordGarden and Everywhere We Look.

WORD ME! I love seeing words in the form of other’s handwriting. I find everyone’s unique handwriting fascinating. I remember being a little girl and desperately trying to imitate my mother’s perfect handwriting!

    WORD ME!
i love words in general. i’m a writer by trade and i LOVE to read.
however, i’m also from southwest virginia, so i’m still finding discovering words that…aren’t.
this weekend i realized that i use “enduring” when i should use “endearing.”
i thought the past-tense of “squeeze” was “squez” until college, and i still pronounce “pamphlet” with a “P” (pamplet).
you can take the girl out of the sticks…

The librarian in me has to chime in with BOOKS, for sure. Though the occasional song lyric will charm me if it is really clever.

I’ve been wanting one of those wreaths….and have been contemplating a DIY attempt for awhile!

WORD ME! I love graphic art, a great picture (or pillow) with a meaningful word (or words) can set the tone for a room. There is this picture by an artist in DC that I have been pining for over the last three years. It’s words written on a black brick wall in NYC that reads “Without music life would not be fair.” Love. Love. Love!

    WORD ME!
As a graphic designer, I love all things type-related, but working with type on a daily basis makes me pretty darn picky about how it creeps into my home life. So there is not a ton of it gracing my walls. I do love all antique maps and the color palettes they usually have.

On another note, I saw this really funny bumper sticker just this morning. You know those white, oval location stickers with 2 or 3 black letters like “OBX” for the Outer Banks??? Every vacation destination and souvenir shop has them right? This morning, I saw one with “DD” for Dunkin Donuts. They were the exact pink and orange letterforms from the Dunkin Donuts logo!!! I thought to myself, either they own a store or they REALLY like donuts and coffee! I hope its the latter, because I find it hilarious!

We love playing with words in our decor. One of my biggest pet peeves, however, is when a word is misspelled in a decor piece. We recently looked at a cute bedding set at Target for our daughter and I was totally turned off by the fact that a few words were misspelled on the design.

Pillows with words would be something the Hubs and I could agree on. He LOVES anything to do with a good font. Walking down the street is tedious because he names and judges every font we pass….Ah being married to a graphic designer.

I absolutely LOVE words made out of collage/random letters from different magazines/newspapers… I also love those photographs of individual letters made out of ordinary things in nature (i.e. the side of a building looks like an L, or a tree branch which totally resembles a U, etc.) They sell them all over, & you can frame all different kinds of these photos to spell out whatever you want. It’s fascinating & such a pretty display!
