Scoutmob is a lot of things (flash deals, events calendar, online flea market…) but through it all there’s a charming emphasis on local. This week they’re inviting two of you to spend $200 in their Shoppe, a curated collection of independent artisans and makers who often weave hometown pride into their work. There’s tons of cheery, clever, and skillful stuff to discover, and you can browse by category or even by city. You know, if you wanna see just what your neighbors are making these days.

The absolute best local purchase I’ve ever made is artisan bread from Tartine in San Francisco. Changed bread for me for life! (There are also a ton of brilliant artists in Oakland and I love browsing the shops here for gifts!)

I love buying locally produced stuff when I travel, but sadly we don’t have a scene that appeals to me here in South Florida. Lots of places that bill themselves as “local” turn out to be owned by big companies from other states; one of the many reasons we’d like to move.
