Fab Freebie: Mob Mentality

***This giveaway is now closed – see who won below!***

Okay, mobsters – here are this week’s two lucky (and randomly-selected) winners:  Charly W (whose most recent local purchase was Vermont maple syrup from the Woodstock Farmers Market) and Megan C. Congrats!

Lovers of local, connoisseurs of craftsman, and followers of all things fun, get ready to do some serious browsing. Scoutmob is a lot of things (flash deals, events calendar, online flea market…) but through it all there’s a charming emphasis on local. This week they’re inviting two of you to spend $200 in their Shoppe, a curated collection of independent artisans and makers who often weave hometown pride into their work. There’s tons of cheery, clever, and skillful stuff to discover, and you can browse by category or even by city. You know, if you wanna see just what your neighbors are making these days.

ScoutMob Shoppe Giveaway

  • PRIZE: A $200 gift card to Scoutmob’s Shoppe
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “MOB ME” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … what’s something you’ve purchased locally lately that you love? Did you chow down on an awesome cupcake at a bakery down the street? Did you pick up some cool art at a recent craft fair? Or maybe you supported your local Girl Scouts by picking up a box of Samoas… or two…
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
  • PRIZE SHIPS: We always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond specific areas (more on that here). This giveaway is open to the United States.
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winners. Good luck…
  • ***COMMENT ISSUES? If you’re trying to enter but keep getting a “duplicate comment” warning, click here to see how to solve it!

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Scoutmob.

I finally was able to make it to a great little cupcake place downtown before they closed. (They close at 4 p.m.!)
I had the wedding cake cupcake…yummmmm. I would be a
regular customer if they would stay open just a litttle bit later!

I’ve lived in Atlanta for a long time (about 20 years!). I love it so much – Atlanta is part of my soul now. Some of my favorite local things to purchase:

King of Pops (a local gourmet popsicle vendor)
    Sweetwater brewery (a local microbrewy)

I’ve been on the hunt for some Atlanta themed prints for my apartment. Hope I win!

MOB ME! I picked up some pretty earrings at Eastern Market, which is an area of DC that has vendors on the weekends — nick nacks, jewelry, antiques, food, etc. It’s a great weekend activity if it’s nice out!

Don’t really mob me; I have been doing very well managing anxiety, but I feel that would be a bit much. But I’d like to WIN! so, PICK ME!

I didn’t buy it, but I wish I’d had the money to do so or that I could find it now. It was a handmade pendant – a cloud white cloud with a silver cloud behind it – all steel and amazing and gorgeous and hopeful. I stared at it and said, “oh, like a silver lining, how wonderful!” The artist, making something else at the same time, said: “not a lot of people get that, thanks.” And smiled. It was such a beautiful thing. I have tried and tried to track it down.

I recently bought a print from a local artist at a small shop in my neighborhood that is very whimsical. I found a great frame on sale at AC Moore and am finally ready to hang it in the bathroom where sadly I neglect to put anything on the walls. Time to end that trend and have something fun up in an unexpected place!

I don’t seem to buy much more than food, so I guess my answer is I bought some groceries at the local supermarket, lol. Other than that, I’m having a hard time thinking of something I’ve bought recently that was made or grown here locally… I have two kids and don’t spend much money outside of necessity lately.

I ordered girl scout cookies from the local troop (Samoas!!), although to be fair I haven’t received them yet. But I do buy groceries from our local (non-chain) grocery store to support them, even though they’re slightly more expensive than a national chain.

I live several blocks from the greatest local ice cream shop in NYC called Je and Jo. The owners are the sweetest and their ice cream is amazing. All local ingredients and seasonal flavors. The best part is that each ice cream is paired with a delicious flavor of cookie dough. Cardamom ice cream with snickerdoodle cookie dough? Yes please.
