Scoutmob is a lot of things (flash deals, events calendar, online flea market…) but through it all there’s a charming emphasis on local. This week they’re inviting two of you to spend $200 in their Shoppe, a curated collection of independent artisans and makers who often weave hometown pride into their work. There’s tons of cheery, clever, and skillful stuff to discover, and you can browse by category or even by city. You know, if you wanna see just what your neighbors are making these days.

Mod me! I love to buy local art anywhere I go, even if all I can afford is a print. My favorite piece of ‘local’ art that I own is a custom Pete the Cat painting by the Atlanta artist James Dean. My sister lives in Atlanta and commissioned it for our wedding!

I didn’t purchase it – but the woman that cuts my hair is remodeling her studio space and gave me an old door from the space. It’s a cool old vintage door with a light green paint on it. I’m going to turn it into a corner shelf. Free is better than paying for it :)
