Fab Freebie: Mob Mentality

***This giveaway is now closed – see who won below!***

Okay, mobsters – here are this week’s two lucky (and randomly-selected) winners:  Charly W (whose most recent local purchase was Vermont maple syrup from the Woodstock Farmers Market) and Megan C. Congrats!

Lovers of local, connoisseurs of craftsman, and followers of all things fun, get ready to do some serious browsing. Scoutmob is a lot of things (flash deals, events calendar, online flea market…) but through it all there’s a charming emphasis on local. This week they’re inviting two of you to spend $200 in their Shoppe, a curated collection of independent artisans and makers who often weave hometown pride into their work. There’s tons of cheery, clever, and skillful stuff to discover, and you can browse by category or even by city. You know, if you wanna see just what your neighbors are making these days.

ScoutMob Shoppe Giveaway

  • PRIZE: A $200 gift card to Scoutmob’s Shoppe
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “MOB ME” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … what’s something you’ve purchased locally lately that you love? Did you chow down on an awesome cupcake at a bakery down the street? Did you pick up some cool art at a recent craft fair? Or maybe you supported your local Girl Scouts by picking up a box of Samoas… or two…
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
  • PRIZE SHIPS: We always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond specific areas (more on that here). This giveaway is open to the United States.
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winners. Good luck…
  • ***COMMENT ISSUES? If you’re trying to enter but keep getting a “duplicate comment” warning, click here to see how to solve it!

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Scoutmob.

Honestly I’ve been avoiding spending money on things, but hopefully the produce I’ve been buying is at least somewhat local?! I’m seriously craving a walk through the Portland farmers market and to fill my arms with all local yummy things… just looked it up and it opens this weekend! Now you know where you’ll find me on Saturday!

I run a little gift shop stocked with only locally made crafts for the hotel we are expanding. This past week I purchased a massive amount of laptop covers, purses, fun pants, wine bottle holders and other great goodies from a small women’s group in the area to sell in the shop. And of course…I had to buy a few for myself, too!

I recently purchased a few bags of potting soil, some seeds from a local company and a few planters from my local independent gardening store called Urban Roots. Then I went next door to Five Points Bakery and had some toast & coffee!

I love buying local for gifts. For those close by, it’s a chance to introduce something great they may not have known about and for those living far away, it’s a little piece of our hometown for them. My favorites to gift: wine from our local winery, handmade soap, jewelry.

There’s a local store here called “Stuff and Things.” No lie. It’s an awesome little shop with a bunch of junk and my husband and I love to go in there and just look around. Sometimes we find something we “just have to have.” Best part, its owned by this little old man and I feel good supporting his passion when I shop there!

MOB ME! 3 weeks ago we made a mundane run to our small town’s Ace Hardware to pick up some ceiling repair materials and have a house key made for our daughter. One week later, that same store literally exploded and burned to the ground. It was circa 1940 and had been a centerpiece of our small town community. Such a loss, but fortunately no one was hurt and they will be rebuilding. So now, that kitschy American flag key that my daughter picked out has become a precious relic to us. Thanks again for a fun giveaway!
