Fab Freebie: Home For Z Holidays

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

Just as Holly guessed during last week’s winner post, our latest giveaway is indeed from our friends at Z Gallerie. They’re back after their much loved freebie last May to put a little sparkle in your holiday season. While the big Zee-G has tons of glittery items for your house, your tree and even your dining table, we somehow managed to comb through all the eye candy and pick out a collection of our absolute favorite holiday items. So here’s what this week’s winner will be snagging:

Z Gallerie Holiday Prizes

The Z Gallerie holiday prize pack includes: two ribbed Antique Mercury Votive Cups, a silver Antique Mercury Hurricane and a set of four Puccini Hiball glasses. We love them because not only do they provide a touch of holiday glam to a dining or console table, you can even get away with breaking them out during the other 11 months of the year. And if they look familiar it’s because Z Gallerie kindly sent a set our way (and we whipped them out for this Thanksgiving decor post a few weeks back).

Z Gallerie Our House

So how do you get your hands on this sparkly set of holiday cheer? Here’s the 4-1-1:

  • PRIZE: Two ribbed Antique Mercury Votive Cups, a silver Antique Mercury Hurricane and a set of four Puccini Hiball glasses from Z Gallerie
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “Z ME!” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …tell us if you plan to entertain people at your home this holiday season OR if you prefer to be entertained at someone else’s house. And either way, do you have any tips for being a great host and/or courteous guest?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, December 2nd at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: United States only
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

Great giveaway…I just bought a Christmas present for my little sis at Z Gallerie the other day. No hosting for us this year, just moved and trying to get things in order and decorated for the holidays.

    Z me!

We have an annual Christmas party…actually we have three. We found that one party is too big for the hosts to enjoy. So we have one Friday party (usually my husband’s work friends), a Saturday big party with most of our friends, and then a Sunday brunch for neighbors. After all, once the house is clean and you make a ton of food, might as well do more than one party, right? Given the economy this year, we’re only having two parties. As long as we can entertain our friends, I’m happy!

Please give theZe to ME! (or you know, Z ME!)

I am having between 12 and 16 people over for Christmas dinner the weekend before we go home for Christmas. I am currently trying to figure out how to acquire card tables and chairs on the cheap, as I don’t have a dining room table that seats that many people!

Oh, and I need chafing dishes. Anyone have great sources?

    Z me, please.

I’ll be a guest this year, and I believe that for big events like Christmas, the best guests bring a bottle of wine, flowers, and a gift of food (chocolate or artisan cheese or…)–and start complimenting the smell of the food, the taste of the food, the presentation of the food as soon as possible.

Z Me! I love being the hostess! We’re hosting Thanksgiving and Christmas this year. In my mind, the most important thing as the hostess it to be prepared in advance so that you can focus on the guests when they arrive and make sure everyone feels comfortable. For our Christmas party, we’ll set up a bar with a few signature cocktail recipes so that guests can mix their own.

We won’t be hosting anything big at our place this year. As much as I love being able to plan it all out, it is nice to let someone else take care of the actual hosting.

Z ME!! Headed up to North JerZ to spend time with both my boyfriend’s and my families. Maybe even catch a lil NYC at Christmas time action!

Advice for guests – If bringing along an app/entree/dessert, be sure that it’s all ready to go and doesn’t need to be prepared or refridgerated after you arrive. There just may be no room in the oven/Mic/Freezer/Fridge and you may be slowing down the Host’s flow. Otherwise, just ask the host(ess) a day or so before if they think it will be alright.

More advice for guests – The host(ess) has a lot going on. Bringing flowers for the Host(ess) is a very nice gesture, but make sure they are already pre-arranged in a vase that you are willing to gift to them.

Advice for Host(ess) – If you’re not quite ready to mingle and your guests are starting to arrive, take a minute to introduce people and maybe even bring up something that you know they have in common or an interesting fact so that they can talk about it while you are still prepping.

I prefer to host, and have a few parties already scheduled! My biggest tip is to make sure guests feel welcomed– this includes taking their coats, getting them a drink, and making sure your bathroom is warm and welcoming. That way, people come back!

The best way to be a good hostess (or host), is to have as much done ahead of time as possible. Don’t be fussy with your food – you are supposed to attend and enjoy your party – that’s why you’re having one! Always give yourself a half hour ahead of the party to rest, fix your face, have a drink. Then have fun!

We are saving our entertaining this year for January or February. In fact, that’s my tip: Everyone is so busy during the holidays that it’s hard to get people together. By late January/early February people are rested up from the holiday whirlwind and looking for some low-key fun. We’ll probably host something in our newly-finished basement (assuming that the bar gets finished by then)!

While I’m sure that one day my husband and I will be passed the entertaining buck, at this point in our lives, we still schlep over to our parents’ houses for the holidays. A gracious guest always brings something, though, regardless of whether or not something is asked for — so, I make sure to do plenty of holiday baking for sharing with our families.

My husband are spending Christmas with his side of the family. His aunt is fantastic at hosting holiday parties. She is so creative and fun. The best thing a host can do is be fun and not worry about too many details. Guests would rather spend time with the host than never see them because they’re stuck in the dining room.

Z Me! This is our first Christmas that we have to “split” between both of our parents house – so Christmas Eve at one house, and Christmas Day at the other. We bought our first house this year, so we hope to entertain next year … but don’t want to take the “job” away from either mother. :) As far as making things easier, we make sure that we bring plenty of homebrewed beer and always ask what treats/snacks/sides we can bring to make the day even merrier.
