Fab Freebie: Gotta Hand It To You

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below!***

Thanks to random.org, we’ve got a Merry (belated) Christmas prize going out to… Kristin Aune (who made t-shirts for both of her kids, ornaments, buckeyes and has been trying to perfect her fudge pie recipe). Congrats!

Wahoo. Hope you guys all had an awesome holiday weekend (you can see a sliver of ours here). As we mentioned on Friday, we’ll be stopping in with one quick post each day this week (amongst family hosting, feverish book-deadline writing, and priming & painting all of our kitchen cabinets). But we couldn’t wait to share today’s giveaway that we wrangled after seeing so much amazing stuff at our local Handmade Holiday craft fair. So this week’s lucky winner will get:

  • An 8×10 letterpress print (any choice of quote & color), a set of blueprint notes (airplane, boat, golfcart, knots, wave, or lighthouse) and a leather blank book from Almanac Industries. These Baltimore-based bookbinders and letterpress gurus bring a wonderful worn and masculine vibe to these printed prizes.
  • $50 towards Funnel Cloud Studio on Etsy. Obviously we love her Virginia-themed art, but she also has a bunch of cheerful patterned prints and cheeky illustrations to choose from too.
  • A 26-letter ornament set and this green vase from Turnerbots. And we thought our J, S, C and B initial ornaments were cool. Someone’s about to get a whole alphabet full of candy colored ceramics, along with a V-A-S-E.
  • $50 towards Zou Zou’s Basement on Etsy. We loved the bunny print that we bought, and this $50 is enough to snag two of her colorful prints.

  Handmade Giveaway 2

  • PRIZE: Everything mentioned above
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “HAND IT TO ME” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … what you’ve made with your own hands recently. Did you bake something for the holidays? Did you give a handmade gift this weekend? Or have you tackled a DIY or homemade art project recently?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, December 28th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The 50 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • DISCOUNT: 10% off any item in Turnerbots’ Etsy shop until January 15th, 2012 with the coupon code YOUNGHOUSE.
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Funnel Cloud Studio, Turnerbots, Almanac Industries and Zou Zou’s Basement.

    HAND IT TO ME! :)

I’ve recently gotten inspired (via Pinterest) to do a lot of wall art.. DIY. I tried the crayons on a canvas melted by hair dryer, I modge podge a collection of meaningful newspaper clippings to two canvases, I framed the logo off of my first car (Thunderbird LX), I (spray/splatter and brush) painted two slates of wood.. and I intend to do more! :)

For Christmas I did kind of a handmade gift for my sister who is getting married soon, I took pictures of random letters for the date she is getting married and framed them… sort of like a save the date picture. :) She loved it!

    :)

I made an apron for my mom for Christmas. She makes a lot of homemade bread, Christmas cookies, and delicious toffee, so I thought that she should have a pretty apron to wear while she does it.

    HAND IT TO ME!

It was our daughter, Ellie’s, 1st Christmas (8 months old!). We bought a Pear Tree ornament making box and molded the clay into an ornament with Ellie’s footprint. On the back we wrote her name, age, and Christmas 2011. We gave one to each set of grandparents and kept a set for ourselves, too (both a footprint and handprint). It was definitely the best (homemade) gift!

I actually completed a totally handmade holiday this year. Husband: crocheted beanie hat with ear flaps, and football team etched pint glasses. Mom: lavender scented bath salts, lavender closet sachets, and lavender room spray. Dad: soup mixes in a jar and crocheted can cozies. Brother: crocheted beanie with a little visor, crocheted hacky sack, and a “magic braid” leather bracelet. And then also made home made vanilla extract, apple butter, and about 10 various kinds of candies and baked goods to give to family members and friends. Its been a lot of work, but everyone loved their gifts, so it was very worth it. Now I don’t know what to do with myself! Also, its my birthday on Wednesday, so it would be a great present to win all of those beautiful paper goods for it!

Hand it to me…please : ) I was determined not to totally let pinterest just be brain drain, so I made monogrammed shadowbox frames for my new nephew, nightmare before christmas box for my little sister, word cloud art for our family white elephant gift, and dog beds for my daughter’s room since her new best friend is our rescue she can’t sleep without. I was running on crafting adrenaline, but now I’m crashing.

I cobbled together a lighted star for our front window out of some wood shims, white fabric, a string of lights, and a handful of zip-strips. Since I had all of the pieces on hand, it was a free project! Love those. Merry Christmas!

I have been in a DIY mood lately. This week, our double sliding closet doors broke and would no longer hang in their frame. So, since money is tight and replacing them is out of the budget right now, I bought a spring curtain rod(no brackets, screws, or power tools necessary)and bought a set of cheap, opaque curtains and hung that in their place- total cost: $23. And it only took 5 minutes to do!

By far th best thing I made this year was 3 drums for my 6 year-old nephew and his 2 buddies to use during the church Christmas program!

They sang the little drummer boy and were SO darn cute!!

I had to make drums that didn’t make a lot of sound, so that we could hear their sweet voices over them, so I used dollar store popcorn bowls with fabric stretced over the top, and made “drum sticks” out of chop sticks with big white pom poms glued on the ends! SOO cute!

    Merry Christmas you guys!!

I had grand plans for homemade gifts this year, but the closest I got was a batch of red velvet cookies and from scratch cinnamon rolls. I also finished a few nursery projects so the baby’s room would be presentable for company: a couple of paintings and covering E-R-I-C letters with twigs and rocks to make a woodland themed wall hanging.
