Fab Freebie: Ankasa For Your Casa

You guys may know of Ankasa’s collection of couture home furnishings which includes hand-embroidered pillows going for more than $300 a pop. But you may not know that one of our favorite online retailers, Ballard Designs, has debuted an exclusive line of Ankasa pillows for less than a third of the price. And thanks to the lovely folks at Ballard, one lucky reader is going to win one of these couture pillows on the house!

ballarddesignsankasacoutourecollage

Each of these three high-end pillows is hand cut and features rich, hand embroidered details that are sure to dress up any seat in your house. You’ve got two 18″ square and a 12″ x 20″ floral throw pillow to choose from. Although with such hard work put into their intricate designs I feel like we should call them “carefully place” pillows, not “throw pillows.”

An extra tall Jenga tower? Oh and in case you don’t know the giveaway drill by now: please limit one entry per e-mail address (our winners are blindly selected using random.org). This prize is available to US residents only. Good luck…

    HAND ‘EM OVER please.

I have admired Ankasa pillows for some time, they are so unique and beautiful.

My father’s passion is restoring classic cars. When I was younger her would recruit me to paint some of the smallest and detailed pieces which required exact replication of the original – his hands were too big and unsteady.

Well, I don’t really consider anything I’ve made particularly delicate or complicated, but I have spent the past 7 years getting a BFA and an MFA in illustration, so I sort of hope that I can create the illusion that what I do is at least a little complicated.

Now that I think about it, one of those macaroni jewelry boxes from grade school might be the most intricate thing I’ve ever done. How sad. Time to either whip out the macaroni again or start working on a grown-up project! Thanks for the inspiration.

    HAND ‘EM OVER!!! please?

The most intricate and complicated thing I’ve made with my two little hands is my Jambi (genie from PeeWee’s Playhouse) Halloween costume. It involved painting a cardboard box sparkly purple, spreading sequins all over the front door panels, rigging the front door panels so they’d open and close, and making the inside of the box glow (yay glow sticks!) and play the PeeWee’s Playhouse theme song on a whim. Very trying stuff!

    HAND ‘EM OVER!

Recently something I have made with my own two hands was a homemade birthday gift! My friend Jess and I got together and made money origami and homemade fortune cookies with some felt, wire and ribbon. Before we knew it we had money glasses, pants, a shirt, a pair of boots, spider, and rings with number one as it’s focal point! After stuffing the fortune cookies with some sweets, we put all of our Asian inspired crafts into clear plastic take out boxes from the craft store and packed it into a box for mailing! Now our friend that is off serving our country will have a little something to make him smile on his birthday! Although, he may not be smiling at the fact that he has to undo all the origami to spend the dough we sent him!

HAND ‘EM OVER! Not so delicate, but a bit complicated – I am really proud of the sliding drawers I made and installed in my desk to take advantage of the space where the computer tower should go (I use the desk for scrapbooking, so no computer). I busted out the power tools and went to work! And now I’ve got a bunch of extra storage!

I like the pillows but alas, they are too…feminine for us. The most intricate thing I believe I’ve made was a mandarin-collar shirt, with satiny fabric that was omg hard to work with. And this was the first shirt I’d ever made.

Or, when I was little I loved making ragdolls. I didn’t learn how to sew on a machine until much later, so all of them I made were hand-sewn.

The most creative thing I’ve made with my hands would probably be a book for my little brother. I typed up the story (quick and painless) and then I illustrated it (tedious and not really my strength). But it was a fun present!
