Fab Freebie: Ankasa For Your Casa

You guys may know of Ankasa’s collection of couture home furnishings which includes hand-embroidered pillows going for more than $300 a pop. But you may not know that one of our favorite online retailers, Ballard Designs, has debuted an exclusive line of Ankasa pillows for less than a third of the price. And thanks to the lovely folks at Ballard, one lucky reader is going to win one of these couture pillows on the house!

ballarddesignsankasacoutourecollage

Each of these three high-end pillows is hand cut and features rich, hand embroidered details that are sure to dress up any seat in your house. You’ve got two 18″ square and a 12″ x 20″ floral throw pillow to choose from. Although with such hard work put into their intricate designs I feel like we should call them “carefully place” pillows, not “throw pillows.”

To enter, just comment on this post with the words “HAND ‘EM OVER” by Wednesday, March 18th at 8pm EST. And while you’re at it, we’d also love to know the most intricate, delicate or complicated thing you’ve ever made with your own two hands. A masterful painting? A mutli-course meal? An extra tall Jenga tower? Oh and in case you don’t know the giveaway drill by now: please limit one entry per e-mail address (our winners are blindly selected using random.org). This prize is available to US residents only. Good luck…

Seriously, hand ’em over! I never buy pillows because I can always make them. But these are works of art! Speaking of which, my cross stitch fits your bill; it is always intricate, often delicate or sometimes complicated .

I guess I would have to say the most delicate thing I have ever made was a stained glass-type wall hanging at camp when I was younger. It was so delicate that it broke before I got home:(

I love these “carefully place” pillows!

When I was in 4th grade I did a report on the titanic and thought it would be fun to build one of those model ships – big mistake! It was definitley the MOST complicated and painstakingly intricate object I’ve ever attempted* to make – and I’ve made a lot of things with my two hands!

*it didn’t turn out so great – but then neither did the real titanic so I guess that’s okay.

The most intricate project I have ever completed is a quilt for my mom’s 65th birthday. Each of my brothers and sisters, and aunts and uncles, submitted a square and I pieced and quilted them together. It was a great present filled with history, family traditions, love and warmth!

The most delicate thing I ever made was a video for my sister Kate’s 30th birthday. She lives in Spain and my other sister, Heather, and I were flying over to surprise her. Heather took video of our cousins and Kate’s friends here in the States wishing Katie well (including two really long speeches from our parents and I pieced them together with footage of our hometown and really meaningful songs. It was my first time putting together a video but it turned out great – Katie loved it and cried.

The most delicate thing I’ve ever made was in response to a request that my young daughters be in a wedding. I made the dresses but the bride wanted me to buy Batten-burg Lace collars to match the ring-bearer. Since money was really tight, I got a book from the library and taught myself how.

The most intricate and delicate thing I have ever made was a papermache paper weight for my mom when I was in elementary school. That women has attempted to toss that baby out I dont know how many times…he he. We still joke today about how I always seem to save my “Beautiful Creation” everytime she finds it while cleaning up her house. I tell you we get a kick out of her love hate relationship with that thing!
