Grouping Olive Oil Bottles On A Platter

If you have marble or granite in your kitchen (and even if you don’t) keeping oil rings from seeping into your counters is definitely an important war to wage when it comes time to cook. But we’re too lazy for all that obsessive wiping and worrying, so we devised this super easy “system” to keep any oil that drips down the bottle well away from our counters once and for all:

Yes, it’s just a simple white square dish placed under our bottles, so even if we don’t thoroughly wipe them before setting them down, they’re sure never to drip on our beloved granite counters again. We like to keep things that we use so often right out on the counter at arm’s reach, so it’s really a nice solution to not only keep oil rings at bay, but also to help three disparate bottles look tied together and polished. Gotta love how one dish-turned-oil-bottle-tray = instant organization.

The best part is that it’s a dish we already had laying around so the cost of this easy upgrade was zero dollars and zero cents. So that’s our intro to a totally new category that we’re calling “Easy Upgrades.” Do you guys like the idea of fast and affordable ideas that you can implement in a snap? We’re all about DIYing something fabulous, but sometimes switching something out or slapping something down is all it takes to add function and beauty to your home. Do you have any of your own easy upgrades up your sleeves? We’d love to hear what types of quick fixes make your home a better place!

I have a sweet little vintage flower hook that hangs by my side of the bed. Every night I slip my glasses on the hook and they’re right there for morning.
With terrible eyesight and a cat that likes to knock things off the night stand, having a home for my glasses is a must. This one simple trick of re-purposing an item I had in my home for years has saved me a hundred headaches. Love this series – keep them coming!

My boyfriend’s dad likes to make pottery, so we use one of his bowls that I glazed by our front door to put our keys in as we come in. Definitely makes coming and going easier, since we always know where they are now! I like having a piece in our place that was made with love by family. Such a simple thing that makes so much of a difference!

I use a dish for my pepper mill and salt shaker as well — Kirsten! It really does make a huge difference for cleanup.

I also bought a few plain saucers from pier 1 to use for my earring collection in our bedroom. They fit perfectly in the shallow drawer at the top of my dresser.

I love the little dish. We had the same issue and used a leftover tile that matched the splashback in our kitchen – it worked wonders and was really easy to keep clean.

I don’t have granite counters, but I have used this idea anyway, just because I like everything to look like it has its place instead of just being out on the counter. I also am using a tray like that for the fresh veggies coming from my garden!

I put a white plate on my coffee table to keep the remote controls on. It really ties things together!

So, I was perusing the site (again) and discovered this trick, which I plan to use in the bathroom to avoid rust rings from when metal cans (hairspray) come into contact with the white marble countertop. No more scrubbing forever just to have it reappear!
