After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

Holly Paauwe says
FABRIC ME…
My name is Holly because I was born on Christmas Eve. Original, right? ;-) Well, it’s better that what she was going to name me and then call me – Angelica (Angel for short). Sorry, no offense to any Angelica’s out there. Holly definitely suits me and as I’ve gotten older, I do appreciate my name more.
Jenna says
My mom heard my name while she was eating in a restaurant. She thought it was very unique.
Lauren says
FABRIC ME!
My maiden name is Monroe, and my dad wanted to name me Marilyn. Oh my! My parents also considered Alexandria Virginia because that’s where I was born. They ended up going with “Lauren” after Lauren Bacall.
Denisa H says
Fabric Me! I was named after my uncle.
Meredith says
FABRIC ME!!
My name is Welsh and it means “Guardian or protector from the sea”. Say what??
I was supposed to be Benjamin, but when I came out a girl instead, there was a last minute name scramble.
Jessica A says
FABRIC ME!!
My maiden name actually has quite a story behind it. It’s an American Indian name, so 2 different words put together. I know, I’m being cryptic, but it’s a name that sticks out like a sore thumb and is soooo super uncommon. Haha.
Chris says
Fabric me! My middle name was based on my moms middle name.
lauren says
FABRIC ME! PICK ME PICK ME!
Julie says
FABRIC ME!
I love having both of my grandmothers’ names incorporated into mine.
Kara says
FABRIC ME! My mom picked out my name when she was a little girl, I don’t think my dad had much choice in the matter.
Krista says
Fabric Me!!!
My name is Krista, which my mom and dad heard after i was born and just picked… they wanted to name me maria.. but.. apparently no one could spell it? wth, right? My middle name is Lee which was my great grandmothers middle name, my mother finds it funny because i picked up sewing and knitting(which she did) when i never even met her! :)
Heidi says
FABRIC ME!
My parents didn’t want me to have the same name as everyone in my class, but didn’t want a completely unique one either. So, I guess it was a practical decision.
Brad says
FABRIC ME!!!
Named after my grandfather.
Mollie says
Fabric Me! I’m named after my aunt and she is named after my grandmother’s grandmother. Thanks for the giveaway and introducing me to a new fabric resporce!
Colleen says
FABRIC ME! Please!
Kristen K. says
FABRIC ME!!
Now that we have a home of our own, I am excited to decorate it as such. So many ideas…curtains, bedding, dining chair seating, pillows…and even hair bows with fabric! What a fabulous giveaway…anyone would be lucky to win this!
Kristen K. says
I forgot to add where my name came from…first name came from Kristen from Dukes of Hazzard, and my middle name was for my mom’s Great Grandma that died when I was an infant.
Katie says
FABRIC ME!!! My first name was just one that my parents liked, but my middle name is after my Grandmother (Ruth). I wasn’t a huge fan of it when I was young, but I value the connection to my Grandmother so much now. When I got married I refused to drop it – or my maiden name – so I now have two legal middle names!
Gretchen says
Fabric me!!!
I’m named after my moms closest friend when she was growing up. Unfortunately we live a couple thousand miles away from each other so I haven’t really gotten to know her. But I should thank her for the name.
Stephanie says
FABRIC ME!
I love my name (Stephanie) but I have always wished my parents had named me Penelope (after Penelope Pitstop – I love her). No special reason for my name – my parents ran out of special names by the time they got to me (third girl).
Christina says
?FABRIC ME!? I was adopted at 5 days old – my parents had friends whom the wife’s name was Christina. They loved the name so much, they shared it with me! I always loved the name Brooke and if I could have changed my name to it, that would have been awesome! :)
Chrissy says
FABRIC ME!
Nothing special about my name, my parents just liked it. But now all my friends have come up with like fifty nicknames for me because there are so many nickname choices for Christina. My favorite one they have for me is “Kissy” and my least favorite is “Tina”. They always do the Napoleon Dynamite thing with me and say “Tina, eat your ham!”
Jacky says
Fabric Me! My parents were all ready for a boy so when I popped out they did the iny-meny-miny-mo (spelling? lol) trick to pick my name! Jacquelyn was the winner! :)
Amanda says
Fabric Me!
My mom gave my dad 10 minutes to come up with a name after I was born… I joke that he only made it halfway through the As :-)
Ben says
Fabric Me. My parents wanted biblical names, which is where my name came from.
Heather C says
FABRIC ME!! No special meaning behind my name. My parents just happened to like it. I was going to be Christina Marie, but that wouldn’t fit me at all. Heather seems to work just fine!
Alyssa says
Fabric me! My name means “one who thinks with a mind of her own.” Not sure how they predicted that I would have been a pretty outspoken and “independent” woman, but they sure hit that nail on the head. :)
Victoria says
FABRIC ME!
My name doesn’t have any family significance, but when I was a kid, I wished it was Jennifer, because that seemed cooler, and I had all these cousins whose names began with J. As an adult, now, though, I fully love and appreciate my name. I guess my parents knew what they were doing after all! :)
Christina C says
FABRIC ME!
I am loosely named after my great grandmother, who was named Christine. But my parents liked Christina better.
crystal says
FABRIC ME!
My name can only be explained by saying it was the 1970s (so who knows what my parents had in mind). I’ve never been really fond of it, but I once saw their list of ideas, and it was the best choice by far!
Morgan Taylor says
FABRIC ME!
My full maiden name is Morgan Brianne Midgett. You can only guess the amount of jokes I endured with the last name Midgett! It’s a French name and my husband insists that we pronounce it “Mee-shay.” Haha! But I eventually grew to love my funny, unique name, and after getting married I am now Morgan Midgett Taylor.
My first name is also a family name… but for the men folk! My dad, James Morgan Midgett, lucked out with three daughters and no sons. Since I was last in line I got honored to have his middle name as my first. :)
Becky says
FABRIC ME! My name is pretty normal, but I was named after my great grandmother, so I’m really the II if that would apply.
The funniest story is that I wished my name was Dawn for all of my elementary school years. I have no real idea why but I was obsessed!
Ann Schuetzle says
FABRIC ME! The name “Ann” appears as either a first or second name for firstborn daughters in my family for 5 generations.
Katie says
FABRIC ME!
My parents also thought I was going to be a boy and my name would’ve been Michael O’Ryan Lastname. But I was a girl! So they named me Mary Kathryn, after Maureen O’Hara’s character in The Quiet Man. However, my name was a mouthful to say, so my grandmother shortened it to Katie when I was a baby, and I’ve been Katie ever since. I’ve never gone by my real name in my entire life, haha. But it’s okay! I still like both my names and I think it’s a fun little story.
Anne says
Fabric Me!!
My name is a compliation of all the women’s names on my Mom’s side.
Chelsie says
Fabric me!!
My family dog gave birth to puppies when my mom was pregnant with me. When a woman came to buy one of the puppies, my dad asked her what she was going to name the puppy. “Chelsie” was her reply – my dad loved it, my mom didn’t. I guess he won that time!
Alicia @ The Creative Vault says
FABRIC ME – my name is Alicia but my mom almost named Tampson after one of the members of the Donnor Party. Thank heavens for fathers intervention or else I would have been named after a canibal with a striking resemblance to a tampon!
Emmy Koh says
Fabric Me!!
My parents named me Emmy because “Em” “Me” means beauty and love in Korean. :)
Megan says
Fabric me! I was named after Meggie Cleary from the Thornbirds. My mother was obsessed with the book and mini series and saw no problem naming me after a woman who seduces a priest.
Jen says
FABRIC ME!
My name is Jennifer and my parents named me after no one. Basically, they thought they were having a boy, and had a name picked. I showed up and they were stumped. Having no imagination whatsoever, they chose Jennifer. In the 1970s. Turns out it was either #1 or #2 on the top 10 baby names for girls list for something like 14 years….ack!!
I don’t mind being a Jennifer/Jen now – it’s kind of fun to think of how many of us there are in North America. And nobody names their babies Jennifer now. I dreamed of other names as a kid, but now I like it.
Maribeth says
Fabric me!!! No specific meaning :)
Hannah says
FABRIC ME!
My name means “full of grace.”
Miranda Glaeser says
FABRIC ME!
My parents were originally going to name me Berkley (ahh!). But a few days before I was born, my mom had a dream that she had a dark haired, blue eyed girl named Miranda… Thank god I came out with dark hair and blue eyes :-)
Laura says
Fabric Me!
I was named after my great grandmother. :)
Emily says
Fabric me :)
I found several different meanings for Emily, one being “charming”. I’ll take it!
Kim says
FABRIC ME!! No special meaning behind my name that I know of. I have always liked my name.. never really thought of changing it to anything :)
Thanks for the chance to win this amazing prize!!
Jessie says
Fabric me!!
My mom chose my name when she was in high school (before I was conceived)…I was named after a character played by Jacklyn Smith in a Dabielle Steele made for TV movie…Jessica, but everyone called her “Jessie”…WEIRD!
Amanda Scholl says
FABRIC ME! I have no idea why I have the name I do but always wanted to have the name Samantha…. no clue why.
Judy Morano says
FABRIC ME. I guess my mother named me Judy as the name was popular in those days. Judy Garland, etc. I never did ask her, though.
Traci says
“fabric me!”
My name was chosen because my parents loved it and my middle name “Lynn” is my mom’s first name. Her middle name is my Grandma’s first name and so on. Cool tradition…
Diana says
FABRIC ME! I’m in my fifties now, but when a child, I learned why I was named Diana Lynn. Before we were born, my parents had names all picked out for my fraternal twin sister and I: Sheila Sue and Lisa Lou (lol). That is, until our 3 older brothers wanted a sister named Diana, so we were born with the names Diana Lynn and Sheila Gwen.
