Another Round Mirror
Just can’t get enough of them these days. I think it’s because of all the rectangles and squares that abound (from windows, doors, and beams, to things like beds, cribs, and fireplaces with right angles galore). It’s just nice to add some curves to break up the square-fest.

We got this guy at Hobby Lobby on sale (they were offering 50% off all wall hanging items, yesssss) for $65 – down from $130. Not bad for an ornate 30″ oil-rubbed bronze beauty, right?

We know it looks a smidge small for that big expanse of wall (see first pic), but once we hang curtains high and wide on the giant picture window – and scooch the mirror over a bit afterwards – it’ll hopefully be perfect.

Not sure if we’ll paint it down the line or leave it oil-rubbed bronze. Once we hang curtains we’ll make a final decision since the room is definitely still in progress and adding in some oil-rubbed bronze curtain rods might be a game changer. Can you handle the suspense? Haha. Although something fun like deep plum might be sweet. Or even white to tie in with the white frames over Karl – especially since this similar mirror (except for the fact that it’s $495 and the links are more oblong than circular) is pretty gorgeous in glossy white.

Wow do I love that mirror. Might have to tool on over to Hobby Lobby myself and see what gem I can snag. Love it!
i LOVE the way this room is coming together… in some of my favorite colors, nonetheless. Love a room that’s built on a deep charcoal, yummy warm greys, contrasting crisp white, and great pops of color.
Can’t wait to see it when the rug arrives!
Love that mirror! Do you guys actually use that space? ;)
That’s Burger’s desk. Haha. Those two tins hold his food and treats (his food bowl is nearby and he goes in and out to the bathroom through that slider- and gets a treat when he comes in) – so it’s actually a nice functional spot for that stuff! Haven’t sat down and written any letters there yet, but now that I have a sweet mirror to gaze at, you never know. Haha.

Haha! Sherry, your sense of humor never fails ;)
Love.it. I 2nd (or 149th) leaving it bronze (though the Horchow version does look good in glossy white -tell me what doesn’t!) Your right angle comment struck me as funny b/c hubs has to have everything at right angles -I walk around our apt. shifting everything (as does everyone else!), so it’ll drive him mad.
Oh-and stop writing more than 1 post a day -I can’t get anything done. Just kidding!! (I mean about the 1st part.)
I really like that little desk area in the corner of the living room, great way of breaking up such a huge space and it’s functional as well.
I too have developed a fondness for round mirrors…
THANK YOU for all the shopping posts…my husband and I will be moving into a new (bigger)house in a little over a month with lots of empty rooms to fill, so I love all the sources for finding great deals!
Love it!
Just out of curiosity… Sherry, how many times have you typed ‘oil-rubbed bronze’ since moving? :D
I think someone’s got a thing for this finish!
Mirror looks great as and where it is.
I’ll admit it. I love me some ORB! Haha.

The mirror looks great!
Ya know, I keep hearing of this place “Hobby Lobby”. I never heard of it until this year and now I hear about it everywhere I go. I’m starting to think I’m missing out on something great! There aren’t very many locations but I really need to track one down.
P.S. Love the blog! My husband thinks I’m stalking you guys but he doesn’t realize all of my great new decorating ideas are coming straight from you :)
Okay, so I did the EXACT same thing only the towel bar is on our RED-took-3-coats-and-2-different-paint colors wall. I only half demo’d it (when I realized the gravity of what I had done I stopped) so it is still up but if you barely nudge the demo’d side there is a gaping hole in our wall and it is hanging by a thread. Any suggestions on this?? My hubby did not have quite as calm a reaction as John did! And he is not handy whatsoever…but is super cute and sweet. I hate those stupid ceramic towel bars.
I think the only solution is to fully remove the bar and then sand, putty, sand, and repaint the wall where the hole is. You can do it!

Great mirror!
Speaking of wall hangings…when do we get to see the wall of art hallway? I’m antsy to see it!
We’re itching to get to that too! Soon hopefully!

I bought the same mirror off of HSN and wanted to change the color. Rub and buff works wonders! So easy to change the finish. Love your website!
Have you ever looked at any of the mirrors from Urban Outfitters? U.O. can be pricey, but there’s a really pretty turquoise one on their website that isn’t much and I just LOVE it!! :)
We love UO! We’ll have to check it out!

Love it!! Looks just perfect above that desk.
Ak! I feel like you guys apologize for not doing stuff fast enough. We’ve been in our place since sept & have painted a tiny bathroom & hung one set of drapes. I’d love to repaint that bathroom, the living room, kitchen & our bedroom, 3 kids rooms (but one WILL be redone by baby debut in July). Oh & we have hung anything on the walls. I think I’m going to live in this house & pretend I live w u guys & Clara :) – at least there is more estrogen there (turns out baby #4 is a boy along w the three before!). Just kidding.
All that to say “you guys are doing SO much, love it all & the user at this computer is amazed at your swift delivery of DIY projects & purchases!”
This is completely unrelated :0) i just started a wordpress. Yay blogging! but how do you add a profile picture? i have looked and looked and cant find where to do it. If anyone can help that would be great! thanks everyone!
Wahoo! Congrats. I think you’re asking how to add a gravitar that shows up like a profile pic when you comment (on your blog and others). If so, here’s a post about how to do that: http://www.younghouselove.com/2009/03/bloggy-bonuses/
Hope it helps!

yay! I did it! Thanks for the help! your blog is 100% a inspiration for me :0)
So glad!

As much as I love white, I’m firmly in the “don’t paint it!” camp. It looks great!
I don’t know if someone asked this yet, but did you clean off the teal paint from your pendant light?
Nevermind I read through the first page, gotcha!
wow the mirror looks similar to this one!!

Isn’t that so funny?! Leave it to William’s Sonoma to make me feel fancy. Haha.

LOVE the mirror!
Ah Hobby Lobby! I miss Hobby Lobby. California needs a hobby lobby gosh darn it! But on a good note I have an Ikea only 30 min away! ;-) I love the mirror and everything you guys do! Still trying to figure out how you guys figure out where to put ‘everything’. I get so much STUFF coming into my house with two kids, two dogs and a husband I can’t keep up! Thanks for sharing with us ;-)
I’ve soo missed commenting and reading other peoples comments over the last month!! I haven’t missed reading one post but have been so busy moving (and getting marrried) :D that I have not had a chance to venture to the comment world. Loving all the progress and all the new decor! Thanks for being awesome as usual :) You guys brighten my day!
Aw glad you’re back! Congrats on the move and the marriage!

My sister directed me to your site…and I’ve had nothing but a blast looking it over. You do exactly what I like doing, and document every second of it. It’s perfect. I am so happy I found you!
Your writing is absolutely hilarious. So witty and smart (not snarky or spammy in the least). It’s a joy to see you doing so many neat things to your beautiful home AND have a cute commentary to accompany.
Nobody hangs trim like you two!
Aw thanks Captain Micah! I now see why that compliment got a smirk out of the hubby. It’s just too funny!

That nook looks like a place I would love to work. susan
It’s rellay nice but.. paint it! paint it! paint it! ;-)
I can already imagine it in a strong colour, green, turquoise, yellow or fuxia!!
:-D
If you’re looking for plum colored curtains check out curtainworks.com! I have the Messina Oppulent Velvet lined curtains in Peacock and they look identical to Pottery Barn velvet drapes at a fraction of the price. Plus you can get 25% off with coupon code CWB6! I added a curtain rod so I could get free shipping and ended up saving money!
Ooh thanks for the tip!

I like the contrast of the dark frame on the gray walls. Plus it really ties in the leather chair.
I love the canisters that you have on that table! I am looking for some exactly like that for my kitchen. Where did you find them?
And I also think you should keep the mirror ORB. From a distance it almost looks gray-black and is a nice complement to the dark beams on the ceiling and Karl the couch. :o)
They’re from Ikea a while back. Love them!

I saw a mirror just like that last night at Ross…for $19.99. But it wasn’t EXACTLY like it. Yours seems a little more sturdy and distressed from the close-up you showed. So YHL wins, even though this one was less $$.
jbhat
It might have been the same one! Others have said they saw one that looked the same at Ross for $20. I’m jealous! What a deal!

I’ve been looking for a round mirror to hang in my daughter’s room, possibly something I could paint, or not depending on how it looked in the room. She already has oil rubbed bronze curtain rods – do you think this mirror is to ‘heavy’ for a baby room?
I think it could be sweet since it’s kind of airy with all the circles- definitely not big and ominous and dark. Go for it!

I the same one! Creative Minds think alike

I’m looking for something similar for over our bedroom dresser. Just might have to make a trip to Hobby Lobby…
Love the mirror!
What color is that on your beautiful walls? Looks different in each picture in a way that’s rocking my world!
Sorry if I’m asking you to repeat yourself – although I’m tearing through your older posts I haven’t found the answer yet!
No worries! It’s a pretty soft gray color called Moonshine by Benjamin Moore (color matched to Olympic No-VOC paint).

Love the paint color!! What brand/color is it? We’re in the process of picking out colors for our walls.
Scroll down for that info! Hope it helps.

Looks lovely!
Hey YHL!! i started following your blog this summer, and i must say i’m inspired!!!
i was just looking through your blog and noticed the mirror in your living room, i bought the exact same mirror from hobby lobby here in Oshkosh, WI last week!!!! Got it for $15!!! i was thinking of making my own sunburst mirror when i saw this and had to have it. Painted mine in dull gold, and its ready to be hung in my purple and grey themed room.
Ooh sounds so pretty in dull gray! I love it! We got ours 50% off, but it sounds like yours was even more of a deal!
