Window Shopping: The Calm Before The Tour…

We’re doing our best to keep our word to those who have requested more window shopping posts, so we decided we’d keep the fun going by trying to hit up some awesome boutiques and shops when we’re traveling for our book tour in November. But lo and behold, before we have even left, we noticed that Target has some pretty awesome stuff out right now, so we thought we’d snoop around (and take you with us). For those who remember these things, we just stroll around a store and take photos of all of the things we love. Not for compensation or anything – these sprees are just for fun. So let’s all go skipping through Tar-jay together and see what’s new, shall we?

Numero uno were these super cool green glass vases. I loved the rustic look of them and the old embossed letters. And I thought with Christmas coming up in a few months, they’d be pretty gorgeous modern-meets-industrial accents for the holidays on a mantel or tabletop too.

Target Green Vases

Target went Jersey. Just like mah shiiiny gold bag (more on that here), they have embraced the gilded loveliness, with gold mirrors, vases, cups, and trays. I think they’re awesome – especially for Thanksgiving/Christmas/New Years.

Target Gold Accents

This frame made me laugh so I had to toss it in there. So true. It’s just begging for a photo of Burger in there.

Target Dog Art

This $24.99 pillow is one of those special end-cap collections (The Shops At Target) and I thought that the combo of wood grain and glitzy gold was pretty “Domino” looking to me. Picture them on a big charcoal gray sofa upholstered in velvet. Me-ow.

Target 2499 Pillow

These $44 lamps continued the gold theme, and I love that they’re sculptural and 3-D looking. They’d definitely add some interest on a side table or console (and they could be spray painted any color if you’re looking for a pop of yellow or navy in a nursery for example…).

Target 4499 Lamps

Lamp love. I wanted these babies. Once again with the holidays coming up I was totally tempted to buy these along with the pretty green glass vases I showed you guys first, but I don’t really have a spot for either of them (although I’m sure I could always make room…). Long story short, I took a picture so I could share them with you guys so someone else could take them home and enjoy them instead.

Target Red Vases

And then there was this sign with a very $herdog-esque ceramic dog. I mean is he meant to be mine, or what? Sadly he was sold out. Womp-womp. Maybe next time…

Target Ceramic Dog

Here’s another one of those Shops At Target collections from an end cap. And we actually bought something from this collection on an earlier trip a few weeks back. Can you guess what it was?

Target Cutting Board

Yup, John was all over the United States of America cutting board- so we snagged it. Although we’re not planning to use it as a cutting board. We’ll keep you posted when we actually get our little project banged out.

Here’s a $49 full/queen-sized duvet that I thought was cute. Kinda summery, but I bet it could even work all year round with a few white fur pillows and a big chocolate or charcoal throw at the foot of the bed.

Target Duvet Full 49

How weird is it that a pot holder made my little list? But I thought this charming extra-chunky knitted pot holder was pretty darn cute. Might make a cute hostess gift with a yummy treat or a few other kitchen goodies.

Target Threshold Potholder

Here’s yet another Shops By Target end cap sporting bedding by Patch NYC. I thought it was moody and graphic and fun. I especially liked the stripey sheet set on the bottom right.

Patch Nyc Bedding

Clearance alert. These $5 baskets were a good time. I can picture a bunch of them in a mud room or bathroom closet. Heck, they’d even be sweet in the pantry holding boxes of pasta or cans of soup.

Target Clearance Baskets

Cute notebook, right? I think arrows like this could be the new chevron. What do ya think?

Target Cute Notebook

These rugs might have been the most exciting thing I saw. For $129 in pretty large sizes they were cool, and I thought the modern/aztec-ish designs were really neat. I know they might feel kinda weird to you, but I think in the right room they could be awesome. Sort of like this aztec-ish yellow Ikea rug that shows up in a bunch of gorgeous rooms.

Target Rugs 129

They also had some great nubby neutrals (some all tan, some tan & brown & gray, and some all a deep charcoal, which seemed softer and tufted, sort of like those more expensive West Elm and Crate & Barrel versions).

Target Rugs

Then I saw this and laughed for a good 60 seconds. Who wants to be a “vampiress” for Halloween? Any takers? All it’ll apparently take is this little character kit complete with a choker, some red glasses, and a tiny hat. Hilarious. Now I think someone should go as this character kit for Halloween. Just wear a giant piece of white cardboard with these things painted or glued onto it.

Target Vampire Character Kit

Method’s always the cutest soap, and the Orla Kiely designs are charming. I know it sounds weird, but this soap is so cute it could make for a cute gift or stocking stuffer for someone you love. Heck, I’d totally fight to end up with one at one of those at-work holiday gift exchanges.

Target Method

These colorful shirts in the boys section (I’ve been known to snag things like this for Clara to pair with her favorite tulle skirt) had me smiling- even though the yellow one seems summery, I loved seeing them all together like this with their sleeves rolled up.

Target Shirts

So that’s what I found on our latest whirlwind Target trip-a-roonie (yes, I just typed out the word trip-a-roonie… it’s official, I have become my dad). Have you guys been window-shopping lately? What caught your eye? Any favorites from the items we shared above?

Psst- Once again for the people in the back, we weren’t paid or perked for this post, I just like taking you guys shopping with me.

I don’t buy a lot of house/decor stuff – we’re stuck with crappy “I just got divorced and was forced to buy the world’s ugliest couch” furniture until we downsize, at which point: I AM BUYING NEW FURNITURE.
Anyway, to make myself feel better, I think I’m going to go on virtual shopping tours, too! I love to window shop so why not share it with my 23 readers, right?!?!
DONE! Especially since I’ll be holiday shopping soon…

Please tell me you saw the ceramic dog lamp. My boyfriend was being an evil dictator of the shopping cart and would not allow a $60 lamp.

Love the Method soap dispenser visual DESIGN, but every one I’ve ever bought in that shape has been a dud. The pumper is clogged (or is just too weak?) and I’m always tipping the whole thing forward when trying press the top and receive soap on the same hand. I’ve given up on Method.

I’ve been eyeing those green bottles/vases for awhile, but they are ridiculously over-priced (as is the red lamp – $50!). The “green stuff” was on sale a few weeks ago, so I did pick up a coordinating pillow – the one that appeared to hae a crocheted front (they were right there by the green stuff, maybe they were sold out at your Target?).

I notice now they have a section for green stuff and orange stuff. The colors earlier in the year were purple and turquoise.

That vampiress kit is ridiculous! You didn’t photograph any Christmas stuff? ;-) Ugh – really, Target? Really?

I’ve had my eye on the USA map cutting board too…. now I’m very curious what ya’ll are gonna do with it.

So I was at Target on Hull or Westchester a week or so ago and saw a white ceramic dog lamp. I thought, “If Sherry was really my friend, I’d take a picture and send this to her!”
Then I considered what an idiot thing that would be to do… and thought it would be in your next Target post and…. it’s not there…. have you seen it?

BTW – I have the deep charcoal woven rug and I can say it is very nice.

And, when you are in Chicago, a great store to crash is Praha on Lincoln. http://www.yelp.com/biz/praha-chicago Wonky hours (lucky duck owners!), but a nice eclectic mix of old and new. I’ve picked up quite a few pieces there over the years!

I was just at Target this weekend and was oohing and aahing over the same things! And no kidding, I pointed out the ceramic dog to Dave and said, “John and Sherry had a really big one of these, but he got broken.” (Dave is used to comments about “John and Sherry” from me. It’s nice that he has now met you, so those comments don’t sound QUITE as crazy.) Anyway… if the dog is still there, I’ll pick him up for you. My Target doesn’t seem to sell out of things as quickly as most do.

I was just thinking it would be interesting to see how many cutting board hacks people come up with!

And then that reminded me of something and you might know what I’m talking about since you grew up in NJ. In elementary school we had this contest where you were given a coloring page of the outline of state of NJ and you had to turn it into something else. I’m pretty sure it was a state wide thing. I just remember someone in my class turning theirs into a granny in a rocker and being amazed at the creativity! Can’t remember what mine was, must have been lame to not remember haha.

I would use spray primer like Kilz and then just spray paint them. Slow and even coats should cover everything exposed, both inside and outside. Just try to mist them and not get drippy!

Chevron thought: I know the ‘zig zag’ thing is what home decor has officially named the ‘chevron pattern’, but really a chevron is just a single, inverted V shape. When you put many together and then OFFSET them for instance, you get herringbone!

I guess all I’m sayin’ is that your notebook IS a chevron pattern, and a pretty little on at that :)

I LOVE these window shopping posts. I can’t wait for Target to open near me this winter! :) Great post.

I stood and stared at that cutting board for like 20 minutes, no lie. In the end, I walked away because it just didn’t look like it would hold up to any substantial abuse and I needed it to be an actual, functioning cutting board. I’m stoked to see what you guys make of it.

I’ve been to Target a lot more than usual lately. I’ve been accessorizing kiddos for family pics one week, getting lots o’ prescriptions for some nasty bug the littles can’t seem to shake the next week. (But at least I get double credit on my Target Pharmacy card this month – my next 5% off certificate should already be in the mail!)

I saw those soaps on my last trip – they were buy 3, get one free! Snapped up four of them – they smell SO good! And the bottles are pretty enough to just keep refilling…. :)

The green vases at the top made me think of the freebie I upcycled at home from an olive oil bottle. The California Olive Oil brand has a pretty, square, green bottle that I just ran throught eh dishwasher to get the label to peel off. It even has cute oval indents on the sides.

I spent two hours in Target yesterday and only saw the Orly Kiely soap and the whale mug (on the same display as the US cutting board)! P.S. Target has a $1 off any Method product on their website. Actually they have a lot of great coupons on their website right now…

I’d love that, too! I’m sure they’ll start shipping internationally soon.

I love those gold sculptural 3-D lamps! I have that yellow & gray duvet and I love it! It adds sunshine to gloomy cold days. Confession… I thought the US cutting board was George Washington’s silhouette or something! Hey it totally looks like someone’s profile when it’s turned sideways like it is in the picture! :)

I just came back from a Target run at lunch and saw all these things on my trip. I love the red glass lamp bases, they remind me a bit of wine bottles so I thought they would be great on a buffet with a cool bar set (kind of an unexpected use for them). Bought an orange cardigan with white polka dots because I decided I could use something pretty instead of my house. I did find a cute small cream vintage-y looking can at Home Goods over the weekend. It has a French design on the front. For $5 I thought it would be cute in the guest bathroom with cotton balls or Q-tips. Love it!

So sorry Mel! We have no idea what is causing that, but a very small section of readers have been having this issue. Nothing changed on our end, but this has happened before when everyone who is using the same anti-virus software gets an update (ex: McAffee or Norton) and then for some reason the update blocks our pics for a while. Suddenly they come back (usually after 48 hours) so I hope they pop back up there! Wish it was something we could fix on our end!

Love the Shops at Target. I did have to buy the Patch NYC Owl Lamp for my master bedroom redo this winter. And now I think I might have to pick out that charcoal rug for the room, too.

I snagged that dog on Friday! We had a greyhound & loved him so. I did think of you guys when I bought it.

And so excited about the Orla Kiely stuff- she’s my all-time favorite bag designer & I’ll buy anything with her awesome prints on it! We plan to use one of my bags as color inspiration for a room someday (maybe our bedroom!)
