Window Shopping At Target

“Would love to see another post about your favourite finds at Target. They’re coming to Canada and I’m so giddy I could piddle! Love your blog!” – Jaye

It’s been way too long since our last window shopping adventure (10 months?!?!), so to everyone who has been requesting them (especially if you used the word piddle), we’re psyched to share the goods. For those who remember these things, we just stroll around a store (we’ve done big chains, small local shops, and even random little stores that we find while road tripping) and take photos of all of the things we love. Not for compensation or anything – these sprees are just for fun. So let’s all go skipping through Target together, shall we? First there were these giant blue glass lamps for $49 that we thought were pretty awesome.

And you know we love bees/hives, so these hex vases for $6.99 caught our eye.

There was a bit of an Americana theme going on, with lots of red and white rugs, pillows, and clean-lined side tables in that area with all the featured home accents. The side tables were on sale but I forget what the price was (tried looking them up online but no dice). Hopefully they’re still in the store if you feel like dropping in on them.

Speaking of Americana, this cool blue-stained wood mirror (for $19.99) could be really cool in a frame arrangement or a wall full of mixed and matched mirrors.

At $79.99 these Privet House poufs weren’t super cheap, but they were pretty darn cute (especially the coral one). They felt very West Elm/CB2 to us.

You know me and ceramic animals. We’re like this (picture me crossing my fingers and my eyes). Ever since I spotted this yellow cow creamer here, I’ve been smitten. He’s meant for serving cream with coffee, but wouldn’t he look cute with a small bunch of flowers? $4.99 cow vase, anyone?

These deep coral geometric glasses (for $3.49 and $3.99) were pretty cute.

They also had them in green with a different geometric pattern (same prices):

These babies were $5.49 and $5.99. They’d look pretty charming in a room with some of the red, white, and blue stuff above. There’s something really “lobster-bake chic” about them. Haha.

This sweet little utensil basket would come in handy for carrying stuff out for dinner alfresco once we have our deck built. I think it was $9.99 (and it also came in blue). Didn’t grab it, but I might go back for it as a reward for surviving the big deck-build in a month or two (assuming we do, haha).

These navy striped sheets felt like they could work in a dorm or a fancy Thom Filicia design. I love stuff with range like that. And I think a twin set was $20 and a queen set was $29 and a king set was $39 for anyone wondering.

These lamp shades could spice up a room for $19.99. I love the idea of someone shaking things up in a neutral room by just swapping out a white shade or two for one of these babies.

I guess I was subliminally on sort of a coral kick, huh? Anyway, I thought this quilt was interesting and sophisticated – sort of Thomas O’ Brien or Nate Berkus-ish thanks to the detailed almost-tribal feeling. I can picture it with a deep gray headboard and some navy accents in the room to keep it from skewing too “lady-palace.”

Oh and this gradated serving tray was fun.

I wanted this $12.99 pillow. John had to physically restrain me verbally restrain me by pointing out I have a severe pillow surplus already. But let the record state that this guy would have come home with me if John hadn’t talked me out of it.

These runners were $17.99 (I would bet they’ll go on sale at some point though) and would be a cute way to wake up a table with basic white plates and glassware.

These $29 full sheet sets (and $39 queen ones) were so cute for spring/summer. They made me want to be one of those people who switches out our bedding for the season. In the end I have just one set of sheets for each bed in our house, but at least it keeps things simple (and you know we’re minimalists when it comes to storing things from our tiny-apartmented days in NYC).

These doormats look a little lackluster in this picture, but I loved them so much. They were soft but made from indoor/outdoor material, so we actually grabbed a few of the green ones for the patio/sunroom to replace some old bedraggled jute ones from Ikea. They were $12 each I think, and so far we really love them (even after a rain/muddy feet, they look bright and happy).

This rug was awesome. I think it was 5 x 8′ and $126, and it had the coolest orange trim, which you can kind of see peeking out of the edge. It felt very West Elm to us. It would be awesome in a little boy’s room or a living room alike.

I also loved the detailing on these tribal-ish white ones (they also reminded me of something Nate-Berkus-ish in their worldly sort of look):

Mmmm, gummy fried eggs from The Candy Store. Yes, please! If Clara decides to have an egg party next year I’ll have to hunt these down. Haha.

And I loved their dog toys and colorful bowls too. Too bad this ice cream sandwhich toy was a bit too big for Burger to handle. Haha.

Oh but there is one thing we bought at Target a little while ago that we forgot to tell you about. But you might have seen it in Clara’s party pics:

See that toy storage bin next to those chairs we brought out? It’s packed with footballs and soccer balls and toy trucks and a lot of rock-box items that don’t fit in the rock box when the cover is down. So convenient! And it was on sale for $54 (down from $65) and we got another 5% off for using our Target card.

We’ve heard from a few folks that the lid can drop down on kiddo fingers (there’s no slow-closing function or anything), but since Clara plays in the fenced off patio area and we have this guy in the carport, we grab things for her and bring them over to the patio to play. So she won’t be going in and out of this bin unassisted until she’s a lot bigger. So far we really like how it’s working out.

So there you have a whole lotta Target stuff for everyone who has been requesting a Window Shopping excursion. And it’s so exciting that Tar-jay is finally coming to Canada. Have fun up there, guys! Haha. Tell me what you get!

    That pillow that John made you put back .. yeah, I bought that one last week. My daughter has “Bella’s bedding” and I’m loving the eggplant color with the pop of yellow. I also bought three other pillows that I absolutely love. Unfortunately each pillow was $25.

    I JUST bought some of the clear version of the pink and chrome soap dispensers last week…I LOVE them. They look lovely on the kitchen counter and guest room bathroom filled with Dr. Bronner’s soap. They function perfectly and are SO stylish…I can’t believe I got them for $12 at Target!

    Is it weird that I enjoy washing my hands more now because of the new dispensers?

    My husband works for Target (lucky me!!!) so our entire house basically looks like a Target store :-)
    We just bought the blue lamp you show in the first photo for our living room to add a pop of color. Love it!

    I love that rug!!
    Can anyone tell me about jute rugs vs. pet hair?
    I have a long haired tabby cat who loves to roll on the rug, and I am hoping to get something for my living room that is vacuum-able, but doesn’t need to be vacuumed thrice daily to be kept looking good. *kitty directed eyeroll*

      We have a dog and not a cat, but we have loved jute since it’s easy to care for (sort of naturally repels stains like the bristles of a broom do) and pet hair blends in since it’s really textured – so it’s not as obvious as it might be on a smooth sofa, for example.

    I may be in the minority…I used to LOVE Target, but I have found in recent years that their prices have gone up and the quality has gone down; now I’ll go take a look around and find that most of the things I buy are toiletries and groceries.

    I think I saw those same blue/green lamps that last time I was at Target. I loved them but don’t really have anywhere for them to go. I also love the blue wood round mirror and the tan and white rug with the orange trim. Do you remember what it was made of? If I had the money and it came in a larger size I would be all over it.

    Do you ask someone at Target before you start taking pictures in there or do they not mind? Just curious! I’ve taken photos in stores before and I always feel like I might “get caught.”

      I am completely un-subtle in my photo-taking (as in, I’ll snap them right next to employees) but they don’t seem to mind! I think policies about photos have gotten more lax since designers often snap pictures for their clients, and people even snap pictures for Facebook/Twitter/Instagram which are all ways people could be spreading the word about something they like, so maybe shops don’t mind as much anymore?

      I work there and people are often taking pictures, like a grandmom will take pics of clothes for the kids and send to the mom/dad to see if they have it aleady and things like that.

    Noo! The quilt is just too pretty! I will be visiting the US in June so tehcnically I could get it but I think the suitcase will be too full of Mickey memorabilia…damn you, Orlando ;)
    Oh, and I believe the cow is actually for serving cream/milk, not coffee ;)

    They were selling white ceramic horse heads a while back. I’m still waiting for it to show up in your house. Then again… a giant horse head, mouth agape… it might have been a little much, even for Sherry!

    Thanks to this post I finally found an ottoman/poof for my guest room! That coral color matches the pillows on our daybed so I stopped on the way home and picked up the one at my local Target – thanks, guys!

    That’s really funny…I work at Starbucks in Target, and I end up doing a lot of market shopping there, since I seem to always be there. And the first time I saw that blue glass lamp my first thought was ‘John and Sherry would LOVE that lamp’

    I snagged the green doormat, too! It’s nice and thick so it makes a nice cushy rug for standing in front of the sink.

    oh my. I was fighting the urge to go to Target but now I just may not be able to resist! I actually bought the tablecloth that matches those lamp shades and runner the other day- I’ve made 2 pillows out of it and am in the process of making a runner for our console…and I may be able to squeeze another pillow out of it- all for 16.99!!

    Thanks for doing this. I love Target! I got both the apothecary-looking soap dispenser (which I am mildly obsessed with) and the pink one (but in clear) for my wedding a few years ago. I wanted to warn you (if you were considering a purchase) that MY clear (pink) one made all my soap rusty. I tried to tell my husband it was okay since it was so cute, but he didn’t seem to agree, and made me toss it. RIP.

      RIP pink soap dish! We have the clear ones from a few years back and don’t have rust (we use watered down Dr Bronners soap if that matters) but have heard other talk about clogging and rust- so sad!

    I bought those exact Springmaid sheets last season and they are WONDERFUL–so very soft! We have a king sized bed and I love these too, because they have a tag that helps you get the fitted sheet on correctly (I never had an issue with that until we got the king bed). Everytime I put them on the bed I feel sort of smug because they are fabulous sheets and I got them on a great sale–what’s not to love?

    I was looking at almost all of these things at Target yesterday! It took so.much.willpower to not buy every single thing. I was also eyeing these cute storage baskets with little chalkboard tags hanging off them. I might have to steal that idea and DIY them :)

    I bet this was already mentioned, but you could probably add child safety hinges to the bench. DH added some to a large wooden storage coffee table from Crate & Barel we had. It was solid wood but you could probably find something similar for plastic (and the hinges wouldn’t need to be nearly as strong).

    I just did some ‘window shopping’ at HomeGoods this weekend — I find it’s a good balance between Pinterest and actual shopping (read: spending money)! :)

    Thanks for the recs to the stripe sheets — I just might have to pick those up … though they will be going under the queen comforter we still use on our new king bed. Trying to stop the bleeding of money mysteriously disappearing out of our wallets since moving into our first home earlier this month — who knew owning a home would require such a constant spend? Well, I think I did know that, but I honestly didn’t know that a pneumatic power washer would be one of the first ‘big ticket’ items we’d buy (at least ahead of a king comforter).

    If Target is your thing you would love my house. I have those blue lamps in my living room paired with the white and yellow shades you showcased. I had perfectly serviceable but very boring wood lamps with cream shades and decided to shake up the establishment with these lamps. Love them. I also have the apothecary looking soap pump jars (one in red for my kitchen and one in amber for the master bath). I also have the little bench/stool covered in red, tan and cream (you didnt mention it but you can see it in one of the photos). It is widely acknowledged I have a “Target problem” and my husband thinks I should have my paycheck direct deposited right to them instead of our bank account since that is where I spend it anyway. I think I only work to support my Target habit.

    I totally just bought those striped sheets in preparation for our homebirth!! They were actually on clearance at my target, and assuming they survive the birth they won’t look too bad with our anthropologie quilt :)

    LOVED this post! Aside from all the fun Target finds, I was affirmed in our current one set of sheets per bed (aside from our toddler’s bed, who has a few sets just to preserve our sanity.)I think I have to run out and get one of those apothecary soap dispensers … and maybe that carpet for the living room!

    I own the teal lamp and we love love love it. It’s just gorgeous.

    After reviewing this post today, I made a trip to the Tarj Mahal and picked up the pillows, the wire basket, and a ribbon candy squeeky toy for my 9lb power chewer of a dog (I have been home for 5 minutes and it is destroyed, but she had so much fun). I looked at the bathroom accessories and may have to go back. We’re redoing our downstairs powder room this weekend (John’s toilet replacement posts are bookmarked!), so I found some cute yellow and white towels and scooped those up!

    This post cost me like $127 :)

    Thanks for the post on the beehive vase. We keep honeybees here in Richmond so I am always on the lookout for bee themed stuff. Even though I am in Target ALL THE TIME, I somehow hadn’t seen it. I went and picked one up at Forest Hill today for my husband’s birthday.

    Aaah! I’ve been eyeing those yellow lampshades for weeks now, but I don’t really have a place to use them. Would it be irrational of me to make over the guest room just so that I could work those lampshades into the new decor somehow? I have a hunch the answer is yes!

    and I saw those cow creamers in the store the other day and started cracking up! I actually have a vintage one a few years ago, that looks almost exactly the same (mines a bit smaller though) from a thrift store for… 25 cents? I LOVE that target has them in those fun colors though – I almost grabbed one myself!

    I love my Target! And yes they have changed their policies, but hate the politics in my shopping…it seems everybody can find something they don’t like about any corporation and feel the need to make everyone follow suite. On another note…I keep two winter sheet sets (aka flannel) and two summer sheet sets in underbed storage bins…Wash one and put the other one. When I’m lazy and don’t want to fold laundry I will wash and dry and put back on! But thinking I need to upgrade to some of those pretty pretty sheets!

    I remember the day that Tar-jay came to Syracuse. What a happy day that was! It is impossible to go there and not find a zillion super-cool things you never knew you just had to have.
