No really, who are you people? You’re a mystery wrapped in an enigma.
To help answer that very question, we thought we’d use our blogiversary week to get to know you fine people a little bit better – who you are, why you read and how you think we can make Young House Love even better moving forward.
So if ever there was a time to comment, it’s now. Please – no, pretty please – take two minutes to answer the questions below. And if you’ve never commented before or are unsure how, it’s easy. Just click the number in that green speech bubble to the right of this post’s title and scroll to the bottom of the page. Real names and e-mail addresses aren’t required so the pressure is off. And if you’re still too shy, feel free to e-mail your answers to [email protected].
And since we’re already stealing a page from Decorno’s book by doing this poll in the first place, we promise to recap all of your comments at the end of the week, a la her State of the Blog Address. So here we go with the asking of the questions:
- Who are you? Male/Female? Age? Location? Marital status? Any kids?
- How often do you read Young House Love? (Daily? Once a week? Whenever you have free time at work?)
- How do you prefer to view Young House Love? (On younghouselove.com? Through an RSS reader like Google or Bloglines?)
- What are your favorite types of posts & why? (Easy DIY ideas? Before & after pictures? Design Dilemmas? Major home improvement undertakings?)
- What are your other must-read blogs? (If you have one of your own, feel free to plug it right here!)
- What advice do you have for us to make Young House Love even better in year #2?
- And, for fun, what’s one change you would make to your house (assuming time and money were no object)?
- Anything else you want us to know, or just gotta share with the world?
Thanks again for your time! And have we told you that you look lovely today? Because you do.

You guys might want to check out formspring.com or wufoo.com – you can create surveys, embed them in a post (or link to a separate URL), people complete the survey, and the data is consolidated for you. There are lots of survey / form building applications out there; those 2 are just my favorite.

5. I am enjoying getting my blog Seashells and Silver up and running(seashellsandsilver.blogspot.com). I cannot miss The Nesting Place, Bienvenue by Susie Harris, My Romantic Home, Joys of Home, Notes on a Cottage Industry.
6. A continued focus on Design Dilemmas as well as some “use your own stuff” rearrangement makeovers will keep me coming back day after day.
7. I would overhaul the kitchen: replace the old vinyl flooring with a cute checkerboard pattern of tiles (linoleum would be fine), paint the light purple walls a sunny yellow, overhaul the tiny pantry closet to make it more useful, replace the dark teal and gray sponge painted formica countertop with poured concrete (my honey is doing these himself) stained something…black maybe?. The breakfast area and laundry closet are part of the kitchen, so the floor is already taken care of; I would replace the rickety laundry closet shelves so that I could have organized storage space. Please note I inflicted none of this pain on this kitchen; I moved into all of it.
Adding a second bathroom would be nice…

6) Continue what you are doing – I absoultely love reading the blog!
7) Oh my, there are so many things (it’s been my fiance’s bachelor pad for the last 2 years!) – but I would redo the tiny kitchen … it’s straight out of the 80s with ugly mustard colored laminate countertops (they are getting replaced asap!). When it’s the tiny size that it is those counters are a dominant source of color! I would dream for beautiful granite.

However, while I love the color it was the first and last time I will ever buy Home Depot paint. The stuff is terrible… had poor coverage, drippy and not fun to work with at all. What are your favorite types of posts & why? I just love them all. I get lots of inspiration from the before and after pictures and links to shopping sites which I would have never thought about. I even tried to get a newly engaged gal in the office to check out all your wedding week info on your anniversary – I might have come off as the crazy lady because I was so over the top about all your great ideas!
What are your other must-read blogs? Roni’s Weigh (ronisweigh.com) totally unrelated to home blog – weight loss/maintenance related but she seems to have a fun personality like you two.
What advice do you have for us to make Young House Love even better in year #2? Gosh, I’ve learned so much from you two, I don’t think I could offer any advice you haven’t thought of.
And, for fun, what’s one change you would make to your house? Remodel of the master bathroom – nasty old linoleum, what feels like a mini tub, and over 70″ long dirty looking vanity with only one sink. We have a tiling quote so we are making progress (the hubby is not at all handy but he sure is cute!)
Anything else you want us to know, or just gotta share with the world? We moved about 3 months ago so we are slowly making progress on painting, organizing things, and prioritizing our shopping list. I’m inspired by your blog everyday – I’m so glad my mother turned me on to it – thanks mom!!

5. Quite a few… Dooce, Making it Lovely, How About Orange, and Becoming Home are among my favorites.
6. I really enjoyed your post on “going green,” and I’d also love to see more “after” pictures for Design Dilemmas. Perhaps giving people some incentive to send you pictures (like refunding $5 or providing a discount to your store, etc) would help, since you obviously can’t really control whether or not people send “after” pictures to you!
7. I would buy a house. :) A pretty one! Or an ugly one… I’d just count on you guys to teach me how to make it pretty!
8. You guys are fantastic! Really, your blog is probably my favorite. I feel like I know you, even though I don’t. You guys are so personable with a great sense of style. It doesn’t get any better! Keep up the good work :)
