Psst- We usually only post once on Friday, but Sherry will be back with a random little “bonus post” for ya in a few hours.
We always get requests for cool kid rooms, and since we have a girl bean, and shared her recent big-girl-room evolution, we thought it would be fun to share the sweet big boy room that Jesse whipped up for her son. Here’s her letter: Hi Sherry & John! My little boy is officially now a “big boy” (hold on while I wipe a tear…).
So I redid his room according to his “wish list” which included: lots and lots of colors (I mean color galore), a place for all his toys and books (not as simple as it sounds), a place to color/paint/draw, some sort of deer head (seriously…welcome to Missouri). Quite the list, huh?!
And here’s how it looks now.
I’ve never been happier than to cross his room off my to do list. We – me and my husband Sam Sam the “fill in the blank” man (my go to’s filler-inners are usually weather, handy, laundry, fisher, btw, in case you were wondering) have done a lot to this room and are so happy with the end result.
There were some big projects like making the orb light fixture (which only cost us $21), wallpapering, and painting my Craigslist finds for the room, along with a lot of little things like extending the three-inches-too-short curtains with a bedskirt that I found at Goodwill, sewing pillows, and organizing an almost five year old’s huge array of toys and books. We also added some plug in sconces to the bookshelves so if Henry wanted to read books in bed, he could. They came from Lowe’s and were less than $30.
More importantly, Henry is loving his room which makes us happy happy. I did the whole reveal post so all the details can be seen there, too, if you want to check it out! – Jesse
There are so many things that Sherry and I like about this room. We both called the wallpaper and the orange bed as our favorites. Although the deer head (Henry got his wish!) is also up there, especially since it’s made by Virginia-based Cardboard Safari. As Jesse said, you can check out her reveal post for more details and photos. Thanks for sharing it with us, Jesse!

What a cute room! I love the orange bed the curtains are fantastic (especially with her DIY fix). We’ve got a couple of those orange and cream pillow from Target and love the texture.
Crystal @ 29 Rue House says
I totally wouldn’t be opposed to you leaking the time for upcoming post. LOL. I’ll be wanting to check here every 10 minutes just to see if it is up and I need to get some work done!

Love it!! I’m digging the light fixture and groovy orange bed!
I hope the bonus post is pregnancy related :)
I soooo agree! Maybe that’s why most of the posts this week were made by John… ;)
Wow. Just wow.
Oh for the love you people need to quit asking this woman why she is pregnant. Let her share when/if she pregnant and quit asking. It is so unbelievably rude. Being pregnant is a big deal and not for some internet stranger to constantly ask about. Sherry is too nice to tell everyone to quit asking. But I know if I were her I would be so tired of having to say something every day about not being pregnant. Lets try to let this woman have some privacy about something that is incredibly personal.
I think it’s really disrespectful that people continue to comment on Sherry’s womb status. Her first delivery was terrifying and I’m sure that if she is pregnant now, she is scared. Not to mention that sometimes it’s not easy for people to get pregnant. If she is struggling, the cruelest thing you can do is continue to talk about it incessantly. While we would all be excited for them if she was pregnant, I really think people should back off.
Seriously, folks, can we all stop bothering Sherry and John about any future children? They’ve already said, NUMEROUS TIMES, that if there’s ever an announcement to be made, it’ll be made. I say let’s all of us just sit back and wish them health and happiness.
Thanks, MS. I glad someone said it.
Do you really think Sherry’s going to reveal to the world she’s pregnant by responding to a comment? Really?
Friday bonus posts often mean a sponsor shout-out.
Did you not read Claras birth story? Leave the poor women alone.

Wow. That room is incredible! I don’t know what I like most about it…maybe the wallpaper?
And did they really make that orb light themselves? I hope Jesse has a tutorial on her blog! Heading over to check it out!
Teresa @ wherelovemeetslife says
Love this room!! How cute!
I’m a fan of the “cardboard” animals (they are actually ‘corrugated’ since the board is fluted -lol, I work in the industry). I am also lucky enough to have one that is massive (almost too big) for free since I work with awesome people. It is such fun for the kids!!
I love the orange bed and the deer head. And that bed looks so comfy– great pillow fabric choices!
ooh!!! what a handsome room. I love that rug!
Wendy @ New Moms Talk says
Awesomely done, Jesse and Sam!
I love that the “big boy” room still leaves room for Henry to grow and change as he will. The sconces are brilliant, too…no flashlight reading under the covers perhaps!

what a stunning before and after! love the wallpaper!
Uhm, can I move in?? I LOVE this room! So creative & funky. Plus it looks like a “normal” room size (I don’t know where all the big, airy rooms most blog have come from, bc ours are little bozes!)
Made the orb light?! Bravo!
I know! I high-tailed it over to her blog to check it out. (I think the YHL bump may have crashed it for a bit, but I’ll definitely be checking again later.)
Megan @ Rappsody in Rooms says
Oh my! That light fixture that they made is amazing! I am clicking on over to see how they made it! The rug is pretty fantastic too but then again so is the wallpaper! So much to love!

What a great room! I LOVE the orange bed!!!
My 16-year-old daughter recently decided she wanted a wicker headboard. My mother happened to still have my white mid-80s version (from when I was 16). It had been in storage and had definitely seen better days. My daughter decided she wanted to paint it a bright coral, and it looks fabulous – so fresh and updated. It never ceases to amaze me what a new coat of paint can do:)
We just found a small moose 3d puzzle similar to that at Goodwill for $3. My 4 year old was able to do most of it and we displayed it proudly in our hall! Love the room!
Theresa W says
Super cool boy’s room! I can’t wait to see how she made that light… but I think we’ve crashed her server lol!
Oh no! Hope it’s back up again soon :)
SO cute! I’m not able to access her blog, am I the only one? Wondering where she found the white duvet/comforter on the bed! Love it!
So sorry guys, due to lots of folks clicking the link at the same time it looks like her blog is down, but if you come back a bit later hopefully it’ll be back up :)
Noooooo! The comforter is beautiful, but every boy needs bedding the color of dirt, preferably in a print. That bed is really a playground ready for jumping on with muddy shoes (or muddy barefeet).
Annie R says
Love the room! I am digging the way she did the bookshelf with the sconce on it! So smart ;)
Also, in my mind “bonus post”= baby post ;D no pressure though lol
I love seeing boys rooms that aren’t cars/sports/dinosaurs & blue/green. Lots of inspiration as big boy room is just around the corner for me.
Love, love, love the wallpaper!
Christina @ Homemade Ocean says
Yayyyyy….gotta love fellow Missourians :)

I love the idea of adding a bedskirt (or something similar) to too-short curtains! I am having that issue right now with the blackout curtains in the den, but I’ll definitely have to give this idea a try.
Great room redesign!
Elizabeth @ Real Inspired says
So awesome! Now I’m looking forward to transforming the little man’s room in to a big boy room several years in the future!
The bed!!! LOVE. LOVE. LOVE!!!
Cara D says
Love it! I really like the bed and wallpaper. I’m going to go check out how she made the light fixture and I may steal the plug in sconce idea.
Love it. I seriously love that orange bed. Scooting over to Jesse’s blog to check it out.
New Homes in Charlotte says
I love the cardboard deer head!!
Just realized this is my cousin’s little boy’s room! I didn’t even know she had a blog. Thanks for sharing John and Sherry!
Haha, that’s so funny! I love it!

Hi Shannon!!! Your comment made me laugh! ;) Did you notice the Henry Winn artwork from your grandparents? It’s my favorite!
I think her site crashed. I can’t seem to get in. I love the orange bed.
Hope it’s back up again soon, guys :)

I am in love with that orange bed… ok the entire room is amazing! What a lucky boy! I tired to go to the web page but it didn’t work. Perhaps we’ve crashed their server?
Oh yes, I think too many clicks came through at once, but if you check back a little later hopefully it’ll be up and running :)
Tabbitha @ Turnip Tootsie says
His room turned out so very cute! Henry has some awesome vision, with a mommy who gets him!!!
Such a great redesign! Off their blog to figure out how they made that awesome orb light.
I love everything about this room! The orange bed, the wall paper and the lights on the book cases. I love that we crashed her site too =)
I’m not a fan at all. Don’t think it’s that cute for a kids room, it looks very mature. But everyone their own taste.
are those the same etsy chevron pillows you have?? or are they different colors? if it’s the same, i’m shocked at how differently they look in different rooms!
Those are a different colorway (ours are bright pink and aqua and stuff and those are more fall-ish colors I think). Perfect for that room!
So timely! I’m currently in the planning phase for my little guy’s big boy room and this has lots of good ideas. I especially love the orange bed (something about orange and turquoise together makes me happy). I’m thinking of painting the walls grey with orange and turquoise accents.
Wow, two comments in one day – long time reader, I just rarely comment. Keep up the good work!
Staci @ My Friend Staci says
Dying over that wallpaper! This room looks so fab!
I love that light, I’ll def be checking their site when it back up to see if she has instructions on how she made it. very cute room.
Jesse B says
Thank you guys so much for the feature!!! This might just be the best day eva!?!! But, yes…the server has crashed…we are working on getting it back up ASAP! Sorry!!!! ;) Jesse @ Scout & Nimble
Aw, so sorry Jesse! Hope it’s up in no time. And thanks again for sharing the awesome eye candy :)
Jesse B says
Scout & Nimble is back up and running!!! Sorry about the issues! ;) Jesse @ Scout & Nimble
So glad Jesse!

I like the redesign. You stayed relevant in your bedroom, by just not turning it into a bedroom, but turning it into a bedroom/playroom where a kid would want to spend all of their time end.
The overall design looks great!
Seriously! Sherry between you and now Jesse, you are making me want to jump on the ‘big kid room train’… and mine just turned one :) Is it wrong that I was just craislistings beds for their room… for about 2 years from now? :)
What an awesome mix of colors and pattern! Love it.
I love the use of colors! It’s bright without being too overwhelming… but my two favorite things are the built in wall sconces and the cardboard deer head! :)
Just painted my big boy room in BM Calm. It’s paler than I like. What color can I put with it to bring out the gray? Thanks!
Lighting changes every room’s wall color (one color might look pale in your house and too dark in my house, depending on the way the house faces the sun, how much shade you get, etc) so the best bet is to bring home a ton of swatches and hold them up to see which one looks best in your light :)
I hope she likes bleaching things! White isn’t the color I would have gone with for bedding in a kid’s room. And maybe she addresses this on her blog, but I also hope those bookshelves are anchored to the wall as he WILL climb on them at some point. It’s certainly different–doesn’t read “kid’s room” to me at all, so if that’s what she was after, she achieved it.
Sam B says
Let me put everyone’s mind at ease and say that the bookshelves are anchored!! Sam Sam the anchor man ;-) did utilize the anchors that came with the bookshelves.
Bruna @morgbu.com says
I just re did my office this weekend and thought of your guys. Just wish I had more money to spend on it to do all the wonderful things u guys do.
The light fixture is awesome! That is bricolage at its best. (Bricolage, noun: “construction or creation from a diverse range of available things.” Like what MacGyver does.)
Haha, I love it!
