A Kitchen With Glass Cabinets, Wood Counters & A Marble Backsplash

Just as we finished our big kitchen adventure, Amanda and her handy husband were finishing theirs. Except she and her husband Ben completely gutted theirs and have literally rebuilt it by hand (yup, they even DIYed new cabinets). And although we’ve been sharing quite a run of kitchen-related Reader Redesigns lately, we couldn’t resist sharing this one too. So here’s her letter:

I wanted to send you a link to our recently finished kitchen. The room started out as a 90’s oak and almond appliance box:

Amanda Before 1

Amanda Before 2

We tore everything out to start from scratch:

Amanda During

My hubby and I did all of the work, no contractors involved. He tore down a wall, built custom cabinets, laid new hardwood floors, installed our wood counter tops, backsplash, and much more.

Amanda After 1

It feels so much more open now, and things like the glass cabinets and our marble backsplash really finish things off nicely.

I just thought you could appreciate all of our hard work seeing as you’re at the end of your kitchen remodel too!  -Amanda

Amanda After Close Up

Quite the transformation, no? And if you wanna see more, check out Amanda’s blog and be sure to hit up this post for a complete budget breakdown of the project. Congrats on a job well done guys!  Now let’s play the what’s-your-favorite-part game. I’m loving those rich wood counters and Sherry wants to rub her face on that marble backsplash.

Psst- We announced this week’s giveaway winner. Click here to see if it’s you.

Crazy! My best friend from high school just bought this house, in Billings, MT. Apparently Amanda and her hubs are moving on to their next home/project and my friend was lucky enough to have the winning bid on this house. What a small small small world.
I’ll send the new owner to YHL to see your post today.

Hi Ruth! The blue is a mistinted version of Restoration Hardware’s Silver Sage (The paint is from Wal-Mart and they used the light base. The formula for one gallon is B-37, E-39.5, and T-37) I think the formulas translate to any brand, so you could take this formula in and ask for a gallon. :)

Wow… normally I don’t end up with my jaw agape looking at the re-do’s but… wow… just… wow… I’m speechless! It’s gorgeous! I really have no idea where to start with what I like… no… love most.

Yay Amanda!!! She deserves some kudos…that kitchen process has been incredible to watch. I still can’t believe they BUILT the cabinets. My favorite post was the one where she explained HOW they built them…no amount of explaining can make me think I could do it. :)

I love it, great job! I’ll be remodeling my kitchen at some point, so I love seeing how other people do theirs, and how they saved money along the way :)

I LOVE the built-in range hood. It definitely gives that opened-up wall a bit more presence. The wooden counters are super awesome!

So glad you featured Amanda and Ben’s kitchen! I found her blog a while back through your site, and I really like it, it’s nice when bloggers help bloggers — sometimes I think I should blog b/c it’s a nice community. :)

And ooooh yeah, those counters are my fave part! Swoon-worthy for sure!

What is the paint color you used? The blue/green one? I like it!

      Hey Marty,

The wall color is a mistinted version of Restoration Hardware’s Silver Sage (The paint is from Wal-Mart) and they used the light base. The formula for one gallon is B-37, E-39.5, and T-37. I think all formulas translate to different paint brands, so you should be able to take this to your favorite paint store to get a gallon.

We re-did our kitchen last year for tall people (6’8″ here). I feel bad for any short people who may live in this place after we do :)

Do you know where Amanda and Jeff’s blog went? Tried to regency it and seems to have been deleted. I do not recall the name of the blog.
