Beyond its obvious decorative qualities, it’s enjoyed around the world for a multitude of manufacturing benefits – and many believe it has metaphysical properties as well.

What Is Rainbow Fluorite?

Rainbow fluorite is a multicolored variety of the mineral fluorite, also called fluorspar when used in manufacturing. It is the crystal form of calcium fluoride which, like table salt, is a member of the halite family. Fluorite is an abundant mineral that’s most commonly found in Mexico and China, but also in the United States, Spain, Russia, and more. It has a variety of industrial uses and is even the source of the fluoride that goes into your toothpaste!

Pure fluorite is clear and colorless, but chemical impurities can give it a wide range of colors. For this reason, it’s often called “the most colorful mineral in the world.” Purple is the most common fluorite color and it’s sometimes confused with amethyst. Each color is believed to have its own unique meaning and properties, including the multicolored version dubbed rainbow fluorite. You can see it above along with a light green fluorite point I also own.

Rainbow Fluorite Meaning

Rainbow fluorite is thought to have many crystal healing properties, including calming the mind and boosting productivity. It’s sometimes called “The Genius Stone” because many believe it stimulates brain cells, improves focus, and clears mental fog. People turn to rainbow fluorite to boost their productivity, creativity, or problem-solving skills. It’s recommended for those looking to increase concentration or discipline. Even if you don’t subscribe to these metaphysical benefits, there’s no denying that this colorful crystal is calming and beautiful to look at.

Rainbow Fluorite Properties:

Rainbow fluorite is said to have various metaphysical benefits, including:

  • Increased concentration
  • Calming the mind
  • Help with problem-solving and critical thinking
  • Improved productivity

What is Rainbow Fluorite Good For?

Fluorites have many practical, decorative, and metaphysical uses. For those looking for crystal healing benefits, rainbow fluorite is thought to sharpen thinking and boost productivity. Similarly, it is a hard-working mineral when it comes to manufacturing and industrial uses. They include:

  • being used as flux in metalwork because it removes impurities and increases fluidity
  • being the primary source of the element fluorine, found in everything from Prozac to Teflon
  • being used in toothpaste to prevent cavities and rebuild enamel
  • being used in the production of everything from ceramics & cleaning products to glass & aluminum

One of my favorite guides to crystals even includes Rainbow Fluorite as one of her 10 “essential rockstars” which are the ten crystals she thinks everyone should have in their collection.

Where To Put Rainbow Fluorite

Rainbow fluorite is a stunning crystal that can look good in any room of your home. To tap into its reported metaphysical benefits, consider placing it in these locations:

  • In an office or workspace: Place a rainbow fluorite crystal on your desk to boost concentration & productivity.
  • On a bedside table: Put this calming stone in your bedroom as a reminder to quiet your mind before going to sleep.
  • Wear it as jewelry or carry it with you: Keep a small rainbow fluorite nearby, especially when headed into a difficult or stressful situation that calls for a clear head.

How To Cleanse Fluorite

People charge and cleanse their fluorite crystals in many ways. My preferred method is leaving it outside overnight in the moonlight during a full moon. You can also charge a rainbow fluorite in the sunlight, but prolonged exposure to sunlight can cause its color to fade over time.

How To Care For Fluorite

Fluorite crystals are easy to care for and typically only require occasional dusting. You can also use a damp cloth to wipe away stains. Fluorite is porous, however, so it should not be soaked in water. It is also a relatively soft mineral (only a 4 out of 10 on the Mohs hardness scale) so take care not to scratch it when cleaning.

What Is Rainbow Fluorite Also Known As?

Fluorite is also called Fluorspar, but this is typically when the mineral is used for manufacturing. Flourite is the preferred term for crystal collectors. Rainbow Fluorite has also earned nicknames such as “The Genius Stone,” the “Rainbow Keeper,” and the “Gemstone of Discernment.”

Is Rainbow Fluorite Rare?

Geologically speaking, fluorites are a common mineral. Rainbow fluorite is less common, but is still widely available for sale at affordable prices. Rare varieties of fluorite are often single-color fluorites such as pink, black, or yellow fluorite.

Why Is It Called Fluorite?

Fluorite comes from the Latin word “fluere” which means “to flow,” a reference to its use as flux in metalwork. It was originally called Fluorspar, which is still the preferred term for manufacturing uses. Fluorite refers to the mineral form that is sought by collectors and crystal enthusiasts. Fluorite also inspired the name of the chemical element fluorine and other terms such as “fluorescent,” since some fluorite deposits react to UV light.

Where To Buy Rainbow Fluorite

I have a lot of places I like to purchase crystals (as well as in person in local crystal shops anywhere that I live or travel to), so here are a few online options for buying rainbow fluorite:

  • As a cool-looking flat slice
  • As a high-quality tower
  • As a beautiful polished heart
  • As a bracelet to wear on the go
  • As a gorgeous raw crystal
