We finally had a chance to cobble together an online version of our fleeting appearance on HGTV’s Rate My Space, which many of you caught live in mid December. Our fingers were crossed that the whole episode would be posted to HGTV.com but after a few weeks of impatiently waiting we decided to DIY a little YouTube clip ourselves.
So here’s a short video of the show’s intro, our two brief appearances and the final makeover reveal (of course we left in the big before and after). And if you missed our behind-the-scenes take on filming, head over here for more of the dirty details. Enjoy!
You two look like total pros up there! Congrats on being famous ;)
Her reaction to the new design is PRICELESS! So cute! Thanks for posting- I didn’t get a chance to catch it on television. You guys are movie stars!
I missed the original airing of the show. You guys did an awesome job!
Do you know where I can find pictures of their bedroom on Rate My Space? Their color scheme is the same as the one in our master bedroom, so I’m hoping to get some ideas :)
Hey Heather,
Here’s a link to a few pics on HGTV:

If you’re looking for more you can always watch our video clip with all the room pans at the end and pause it to take some screen grabs for reference. Good luck!

you guys, are so cute
Thanks, those are perfect!
You guys should SO be on tv! Naturals! And the room looked amazing!
Cute!!
SO cute! I’m so glad you posted something on this again though. I’ve had the worst time trying to find their old Rate My Space website. Did they take it down? Their new “gallery” looks like it’s only past episodes. Where are the galleries where people just add their photos and people look for inspiration??
Hey Sarah,
Here’s a link that seemed to take us to the page where you can upload your pics and check out other people’s spaces:

Hope it helps!
And for all you adorable and sweet people who got a kick out of our video, thanks so much for your kind words of encouragement!!! Of course I still think I sounded a little pitchy and crazy but I guess national television will do that to ya. We’re so glad you enjoyed the clip!
xo,
Sherry (& John)
I was just flipping through channels and stumbled upon your Rate My Space! Yay! It’s fun to actually watch it.
Just found your blog and it is wonderful! I was on RMS TV (also briefly!) episode 108, Lackluster Kitchen. I think they have them all online now, but I haven’t watched any. Great work!
You can also check out more on Angelo Surmelis’ blog at: http://www.thedesigngeek.com
Hey John and Sherry- Congratulations on all your success with the site and your house! I’m so excited for you both. You guys have an amazing eye for design :)
Keep me posted on how things are coming along- I love hearing about what you guys are up to!
Steph
Cute! You guys did a great job!
I love Angelo Surmelis – and his show!
You guys are uber cute! I love your site, and I think you definitely should be on tv (high pitched or not..lol) also, I’m seriously thinking about having you guys take a stab at one of my rooms soon. Take care, and best wishes to you both!
How funny! I totally saw this episode and was like “I LOVE THEIR BEDROOM” and here you are on blogger! :)
Hi
Saw you guys on last night’s repeat episode. Thought you should know you were a hit in Chicago again.
I am extremely interested in hearing people’s success stories and was wondering if you could email me a little about how you got started? Hope to hear from you.
I just saw this episode last night (7-11-09) for the first time and yelled at my husband “I KNOW THEM!! I read their blog!!” Apparently I’m behind the times since I just read that it first aired in Dec. Anyway, congrats! Your room looked awesome and you guys are so cute!
Aw thanks Lisa! We love learning that our episode reaired when people email us and comment about spitting out their milk or screaming when they unexpectedly see us on the TV screen! So funny. Glad you liked it!

s (& j)
You guys are great .please ANGELO CAN YOU help me with my kithen .
Hey youngsters! I’ve been following the blog for a while (I’m also in Richmond!) and just saw this today. I love the stainless steel fan you have in the bedroom. My husband and I aren’t big ceiling fan people and I’ve been on the lookout for a classy fan like that one. Where’d you score it? I remember one like it from many, many years ago at Pottery Barn but can’t seem to find one now that I need it. Thanks y’all!
We actually got ours for a major deal at the sadly departed Linens N Things but we have seen similar Hunter versions in stainless steel at Target and Bed Bath and Beyond. Hope it helps!

Where did you find your curtains? I’m looking for inexpensive curtains and I love the white. I’m finding it hard to find curtains that are not beige, brown, yellow, or red. Thanks!
Ikea! They’re called “Vivan” panels and we got them extra long (for around $14 for two!). Hope it helps!

I really love what you guys have done with your home. Great job! Love the Gentle Tide and red paint colors. Where did you get those colors? Thanks!
Hey Roy,
Gentle Tide is by Glidden, which is sold at Home Depot. It actually has since been discontinued but you can ask them to look up the formula on the computer in the paint area. As for our red front door, it’s Valspar’s Fabulous Red from Lowe’s. Hope it helps!

wow. young, smart, practical, clever, unique, un-stuck-up.
AWESOME. You can teach a lot to a person senior to you, like me! Our old house still has original kitchen and bathroom, so deeply in need of makeovers, it ain’t funny. Dreaming, thinking, working!
anyhow, as per your giveaway tea towels:
I love crisp tea towels and have used them for kitchen window cover/curtains and sewn together as a tablecloth
or a table runner.
OH, and even as a lil cubby hole cover with a mini
expandable curtain rod that I use to hold a top hem of
a tea towel so that it curtains over a cubby hole I wish to cover like a cloth cabinet door.
As for tea, we are making SUN tea a lot now.
Put 6 tea bags in a container of 7-8 cups of water, glass preferred. Put it out in the direct sunlight.
Cover the water pitcher top with a fabric swatch or a paper towel so no bugs get in. Let it brew in sunlight for
a few hours and note that vitamin D from the sun will go in there, too. Later, take inside and have it your own way. We like to add honey or sweet and low and some ice cubes and some skim milk….result? a low fat iced tea latte!
please submit me for your English tea towel giveaway and thanks so much. Best wishes on everything smart and practical you do and of course on the baby!
I love working with Angelo Surmelis! He is such a wonderful person, I even got to interview him recently! He’s been working with my company to develop an awesome line of accent furniture!

How cool to get on TV, and inspire someone else’e dream bedroom. Nice going …
