Our Nest Made The Nest Magazine!

And not only did we make the mag, we actually made the cover. I know! There may or may not have been some excited screaming for a few hours after we found out.

Needless to say we’ve been beyond excited about this little write up (which was shot back in November when they also filmed our video house tour). It was a pretty busy day… and Burger got to meet a crew of ten people for the occasion (a hair & make-up lady, a wardrobe stylist, an assistant to the wardrobe stylist, the photographer of course, his two assistants, the creative director, the prop stylist, his assistant, and a videographer).

Yeah, that’s right. They dressed us up (no those aren’t our clothes, but it is our dog!), powdered our faces (well, not Burger’s) and told us to smile pretty for the camera. We were both super self conscious (so many eyes- and lenses- on us) but we tried to keep our cool and act like it was just another ordinary day at Casa Petersik.

A bunch of you guys have actually seen the spread already since you opened your mailboxes and saw our smiling faces! The hilarious part of the story is that we actually never got a copy of our own (they said it would arrive around March 30th but it has yet to find its way to our house) so we finally got to see the story this weekend thanks to a friend who got the mag and met up with us to pass it along! The Nest magazine is a subscription only publication (they send it out to over 200,000 newlyweds, but it can’t be picked up in stores), so of course we were beyond thrilled when our friend called us to say that she had a copy in her hot little hands.

And now that we’ve seen it, we couldn’t be more enamored (and relieved- our nerdy self-consciousness isn’t nearly as obvious in the pictures as we thought it was). Of course the photographer, David A. Land, captured our house beautifully, and the staff over at The Nest did such an amazing job putting it all together. Oh and could our little fur baby have looked any cuter? Did you see that pooch eye contact on the cover? Is Burger not destined to be a star?!

    Wow, I would do anything to have a photo shoot like this…and have my house decorated and cleaned up at the same time! Score!

    this is so awesome! congratulations you two! I can totally relate to the 5′-2″ thing and a 6′-0″ husband – but you look super cute in the flats. The house looks great as well. :)

    Re: Subscriptions
    I was registered on theKnot.com and after my wedding last June, I was emailed and told they were sending me 2 complimentary copies of the magazine. I’ll take a peek at my saved issues and see if they include any subscription info.

    Wow! Congratulations! When did the issue come out?

    You said they brought in a bunch of accessories for your casa…did they let you keep any of them?? Just curious! hehe :)

      Hey Natalie,

      The issue came out at the end of March/beginning of April but they shot it back in November. As for the accessories, they actually picked up some great kitchen props from William’s Sonoma (fancy schmancy olive oil, coffee, rice vinegar, etc) and left it all behind for us. So sweet! But a lot of the pillows and the other decor items actually belonged to the stylist (he shipped them to our house ahead of time and shipped them back after the shoot) so of course we didn’t get to keep anything from his personal collection. Although we definitely had fun seeing our house all “dressed up” for the occasion!

    Wow Congrats. You guys are uber-famous now.

    Just an aside – now that I’ve seen the floor plan of your house I bet the room, that used to be your dining room and that you converted into a bedroom, was originally a bedroom. I’m 50 years old and have seen many houses over the years with similar floor plans to yours and they didn’t usually have separate dining rooms, just a combined living/dining room as you have. Back when families were bigger, it was the number of bedrooms that was more important than having a separate dining room.

    You guys look great, and so does the house! I’ve been lurking on your blog for a while but have never commented…I wonder if you know where the stylist picked up that great green floral pillow on your den couch? I’m a sucker for green & orange!

      We actually think it might have been a Pottery Barn pillow, but it was from a while back (early fall or even summer of 2008). Maybe you can search for a “green pottery barn pillow” on ebay and dig one up? Happy hunting…

    YAY!!!!! I’m SOO excited for you guys! Check off that bucket list item, right?! I get The Nest magazine (yeah, it is sorta random that I even get it… just got married last January) and I love it, but haven’t received my copy with you three on it yet. CAN’T WAIT! There are always really really cute couples with really really cute houses in there… you fit that description pretty well.

      Good memory! Yeah, we posted a bit of a teaser in November with some behind the scenes pics of our house full of props and tripods, but the powers that be over at The Nest had us take it down so we didn’t spoil the big reveal this spring. But now that the issue is finally out we can’t wait to share all the dirty details and much much more… stick around!

      We’re actually a bit unclear about how the magazine actually works. In fact we really wanted to do a giveaway so a few lucky readers could win their own copy to peruse, but The Nest said that they’re currently not offering subscriptions. From what we understand they randomly send out 200,000 copies to newlyweds (none of whom have subscribed, but perhaps they entered their info on theknot.com or thenest.com and were randomly selected to receive it). But fear not, we’re definitely going to scan the article so that people can click it to read every last word, which will be almost as fun as having the glossy version on your lap!

    ok… never mind guess I can’t buy it.
    I’ve been trying forever to subcribe to it (my newlywed subscription has already expired) but it is impossible to find a link to the magazine through their site! The picture of the magazine on the top right site takes you nowhere!

      Sadly all the clothes left with the wardrobe girl (which is a shame because I fell in love with some awesome Joe’s Jeans from Anthropologie). Oh well, it was still fun playing dress up for the day!

    Regarding the subscription to the magazine questions – I received this issue but don’t remember signing up for it.

    However, I did sign up to theknot.com last spring ’08 in order to create a wedding homepage for me and the mr.

    So Sherry – I think you’re correct – if someone signed up to the Knot recently then they were sent The Nest.
