Young House Love » Our Second House » Oh Snap.

Oh Snap.

And now for a behind the scenes ceramic animal related story. While we were working on this…

Broke Dog John Working

… this happened:

Broke Dog Full

Since I’m still not ready to talk (or write) about it in depth, here’s John’s depiction of how the tragedy occurred:

Broke Dog Cartoon

Alas, my favorite giant ceramic dog (snagged from HomeGoods three years ago for just 29 bucks) sadly lost his face. In the words of the world’s most famous blogger, it sucked and then I cried.

Broke Dog Head Shattered

Yes, there’s a candle lit vigil in progress. Goodbye Mr. Ceramic Dog. You were a wonderful pet. Never had to clean up after you once. Until this happened.

Broke Dog Pieces

I might try to glue him back together (although some of the pieces are pretty tiny). Until then I’ll be found shaking, crying, and whispering “why?”

Just kidding, I’ll live.

Cute! And of course I love that he’s resin so he shouldn’t be as breakable…

Oh dear, so sad for your puppy!

Do you know about ModCloth? I found it thanks to facebook’s incessant ads, but love their dresses & everytime I look through their apartment/home stuff, I think of your menagerie!

    So sorry Sherry!

I noticed in a photo of the playroom in a later post that he seemed to be sitting in there with a box of glue? on his head…here’s to hoping that he’s got a bright future.

Poor pup. I saw on my Google hunt for white ceramic dogs that you’d called him Rufus at some point (the entry doesn’t say it, but the preview did), but he died a nameless soul.

Try not to let him become one of these.

    Sherry,
There are two dogs at the HomeGoods in Fair Lakes right now! I know it’s a drive for you but if you want to replace him maybe John’s parents could pick one up for you? Just a thought.

This may be twisted, but I really think it would be a funny vase. Imagine like, calla lilies sticking out of his neck.

I was at the Homegoods in my neck of the woods (Minnesota) yesterday and I saw a ceramic dog there for I think the same price – and it may have been the same exact dog! I was going to take a picture of it with my camera phone and send it to you guys to see if it was the same one, but alas…my cell phone is on the fritz. Do you want me to see if it’s still there and try to get a photo? If it’s the same one, then you could replace it (and for that cheap price yet again)

Oops, I just read some other comments and saw other people said the same thing. Oh well. You guys are resourceful…I’m sure you’ll come up with something even better if you end up not getting a replacement doggie.

Hey Sherry, my condolences about The Dog. What a bummer! He was so stately. I had a thought that might cheer you up…check out (if you haven’t already) 20×200.com! They have awesome, affordable art prints that you could use to fill up all those frames in the hall. I looked for a good dog one for a memorial, but didn’t find one I liked. I did find this great turtle, though!

I realize that I am over a year behind….. slowly catching up every day (love you by the way)….. I have to admit when I read this it almost brought a tear to my eye…. I am sorry for your loss.
But on a happier note that sketch depicting the “tragedy”, HILARIOUS!
And now there is more room for a new and improved “pet”
