Fab Freebie: Young Horse Love

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

This week we’re giving away a totally customized painting from a special group of artists. Wanna meet ’em? Allow us to introduce Blitz, Minnow, and Boomer: the artists in residence at Painting Pony. Yes, I said artists.

Ponies Artists

If the paintbrushes in their mouths weren’t proof enough that these Chincoteague Ponies know their way around a canvas (I know, I was a bit skeptical at first too), just check out the colorful artwork they create with the help of their trainer Kyley DiLuigi.

Ponies Painting Collage

Not only do they create one-of-a-kind pieces (with a unique backstory, no less) they also let you add some input about the painting before it’s made, so it’s sure to complement your home. You get to pick the background color and up to four paint colors to be used AND you get to choose which four-legged artist creates it. Kyley also throws in a CD with photos and/or video of it being whipped up.

Ponies Horse To House

If you wanna see these artsy horses in action there’s a video of the painting process (as well as other tricks) on the Painting Pony website. Oh, and be sure to check out their rockstar Dachshund sidekick Ammo. Burger so wants to meet him someday.

Now on to the details for the prize (and stay tuned for another special offer on Thursday):

  • PRIZE: A custom 16″ x 20″ canvas by Painting Pony as described in this Etsy listing.
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “PONY UP” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …since this week’s prize is all about ponies with amazing tricks up their sleeves, why not tell us about another animal trickster you’ve been wowed by (whether its a skateboarding dog you spotted on YouTube or maybe even some amazing feat your own pet pulled off).
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 15th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: Anywhere in the world!
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck…

My favorite “trick” animal was a parrot in a store on Sanibel Island when I was a kid. It could make alllll sorts of neat noises and my favorite… it would make the sounds of fireworks! It was pretty darn cool.

While it may not be considered a “trick”, my dog Burt (a lab/husky/thing/mix) can destroy any dog toy known to man. My mom once bought her Grandpup a rope toy for Christmas… it literally lasted 34.5 seconds. Yes. We timed it.

Pony Up! I met the cutest little lab mix at the Heritage Humane Society who, at 2 1/2 months, has already learned the habit of tidying up: every toy we threw she happily chased, then placed in the corner near the bin. I’m sure if she was taller, it would have actually been put IN the bin, too! Her name is Chestnut, and she would make an adorable, loving and well-behaved girl for the right home. Too bad my apartment doesn’t allow dogs!

Oh, how I love ponies and those paintings are so sweet (as is your blog!).

Like you guys, I am a dog lover! We have 2 rescue pugs and we’re constantly amazed by how mischevious they can be! I wouldn’t call it a trick – but tomotoes kept disappearing from my tomato plants. We suspected squirrels, but little did we know the cuprits were right under our noses – our tricky little pugs! Working together, one would hold the tomato plant down by either grabbing its leaves and pulling, or getting on his hind legs and into the tomato pot, while the other would grab the fruit off the brach (it took us several months to catch them in the act). Then they’d share the reward! They did this to all 5 plants! Can’t really be mad at them because, well, it’s pretty hilarious. But unfortunately my tomato harvest was zilch this year!

Our golden retriever Cooper used to balance treats on his nose, stay (although there was a serious amount of drool that hit the floor, haha!), and then when we said, “Get it!” he’d flip it into the air and catch it in his mouth.

He loves trash, so he usually brings me a kleenex or a paper out of the trashcash in his mouth, drops it by me, I throw it, he runs and gets it and comes trotting back to me with it in his mouth. And he’ll do it over and over again. It.Is.Hysterical.

Pony Up! Geez, where do I begin? I’ve always been amazed by seeing-eye dogs, K-9 dogs, and dogs in the military, especially the one my dad had when he was in WWII. Those dogs give more than they take; to say they’re all heroes is an understatement. And then there are the horses that help people learn how to trust mankind again. I get chill bumps just thinking about it.
