Fab Freebie: Young Horse Love

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

This week we’re giving away a totally customized painting from a special group of artists. Wanna meet ’em? Allow us to introduce Blitz, Minnow, and Boomer: the artists in residence at Painting Pony. Yes, I said artists.

Ponies Artists

If the paintbrushes in their mouths weren’t proof enough that these Chincoteague Ponies know their way around a canvas (I know, I was a bit skeptical at first too), just check out the colorful artwork they create with the help of their trainer Kyley DiLuigi.

Ponies Painting Collage

Not only do they create one-of-a-kind pieces (with a unique backstory, no less) they also let you add some input about the painting before it’s made, so it’s sure to complement your home. You get to pick the background color and up to four paint colors to be used AND you get to choose which four-legged artist creates it. Kyley also throws in a CD with photos and/or video of it being whipped up.

Ponies Horse To House

If you wanna see these artsy horses in action there’s a video of the painting process (as well as other tricks) on the Painting Pony website. Oh, and be sure to check out their rockstar Dachshund sidekick Ammo. Burger so wants to meet him someday.

Now on to the details for the prize (and stay tuned for another special offer on Thursday):

  • PRIZE: A custom 16″ x 20″ canvas by Painting Pony as described in this Etsy listing.
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “PONY UP” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …since this week’s prize is all about ponies with amazing tricks up their sleeves, why not tell us about another animal trickster you’ve been wowed by (whether its a skateboarding dog you spotted on YouTube or maybe even some amazing feat your own pet pulled off).
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 15th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: Anywhere in the world!
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck…

I recently taught our six year old lab mix, Libbie, how to roll over. Goes to show you can teach an old dog new tricks! :)

PONY UP! The funniest “trick” our old dog Tex(100lb Rhodesian Ridgeback) ever did was once when we were eating take-out fried chicken. I cleared the table of the plates and chicken but left the container of coleslaw open on the table. I turned my back to go to the fridge, turned back around and Tex was ON – as in all 4 legs, standing on – the table with the coleslaw container stuck on his face! I guess he figured that even though it wasn’t actually chicken, at least the coleslaw had been CLOSE to the chicken!! It was hysterical!

I saw a YouTube video of an elephant painting a picture of an elephant holding a flower- it was the most amazing thing ever!

More personally, my dog Jager can turn round doorknobs with his paws and pull to open the door!

my dog knew a bunch of words, so when i would say ‘i’m gonna shut the door,’ he would usually come inside (which worked well when he was doing the ‘i’m not coming back in why don’t you come out and chase me.’)

PONY UP! My childhood dog was a cocker spaniel who was too old to do tricks, but she used to try to catch flies, even though she was blind! It always cracked me up to see her snapping away at thin air.

Boo, our 2 year old black Lab can let herself out and in the house. She’ll use her nose to open the storm door off our kitchen (it doesn’t quite latch all the way) and when she wants in she’ll jump up and push down the lever on the front door and her weight will carry the door open (we’re working on teaching her how to close the door after letting herself in). It’s too funny because if either of our other two dogs are outside, they just follow her in!!!!!

Pony Up! My pooch is a special little guy. He can’t skateboard or paint, but he does have one little trick up his sleeve, er, paw: He can sneeze on command. Yes, that’s true. Now, we’re still working on the “command” bit of it, because he actually does this only when we tell him to “Speak”. Usually, he’ll do just that, but when he is really excited about something and really wants what you have in your hand, he will sneeze. He’ll do this many times until you find him so adorable you cave in and give him his treat.

My Staffordshire Bull Terrier can open doors! At first she was opening doors to let herself into bedrooms. Then she started letting herself into the garage while I would be gone to work. I had to lock the doors – but that was no deterrent. She still found a way to unlock them. I finally had to change the shape of the doorknobs and “baby” proof them!

My Jack Russell Terrier Cain used to bring in firewood. He would run out and around the house to the wood pile, grab a piece of wood, run back around in the house, through to the wood stove and drop it in the pile, turn around and run back out and would keep going until you made him stop.

I LOVE these paintings. Just started horseback riding this spring and I may have gasped when I saw the horse thumbnails on my Blog Lovin’!

I acquired my cat through a vet’s office. She had been a clinic cat, but she figured out how to open the doors by jumping up and turning the handles. When she began randomly showing up in the operating room during other animals’ surgeries they knew they had to find a different home for her. She’s lived with us for the past 10 years …
