Yes, this freebie is about cleaning, but the “nice” part of my post title risks being a major understatement. For instance, would you call this incredible Australian house that we virtually crashed back in February just “nice?”
Of course not. It’s amazing. Which is why we’re excited that those very homeowners are also the geniuses behind the luxurious and superbly eco-friendly cleaning line called Murchison-Hume. Even more excitingly, they’re sending over $250 worth of luxe home-cleaning products to one lucky reader’s casa (feel free to drool, since you’ll soon have something to clean it up with).
So why do we love Murchison-Hume? Let’s start with the design: vintage apothecary-style bottles that make any countertop photo-shoot ready. Then there’s the eco part. All products are premium organic and are based in the same technology that cleans up oil spills, meaning they’re completely non-toxic. Oh, and of course there’s the fact that they actually work – and smell great (mmm, Australian White Grapefruit). And yes this line (which you can find stateside in Anthropologie and in upscale shelter mags like Elle Decor) is pricier than your average cleaner, but you certainly get what you pay for. Plus, it never hurts to feel a bit fancy when you’re tidying up. In fact they sent some our way and we’ve never felt so elegant while getting our scrub on. I’m obsessive about mail! One of the first things I do every night when I get home is go through the mail. We have a bills basket and a coupon basket. Invites go on the fridge under a special magnet, and catalogs in a pile on the end table to look at after our little one goes to bed. Guess this is organize and declutter… my bathroom sink is my cleaning obsession :-)

I’m kind of a neat freak, so I usually clean at least once a week and tidy up the house every night, but the two things that bother me the most are a dirty bathroom, and dust bunnies on the floor. If I see them I HAVE to vacuum them up immediately.

I’m obsessed with keeping the kitchen countertop clean. For some reason I can’t go to sleep unless the kitchen’s clean. Nothing worse than waking up to a dirty kitchen. My husband, on the other hand, has a tendency to think that a shirt’s dirty after only one wear. We differ on this one.

I can get a bit messy and disorganized… but when it gets to be too much I get a little OCD about cleaning and organizing. One year I spent a night cleaning the bathroom and even made a 2am trip to walmart to get more cleaning supplies and organizing things.
I organize my closet by color… that’s my big need to stay organized area.

I obsessively clean my kitchen counter. I bake quite a bit and plop dough right on the counter whenever I need to knead it. So the counter gets washed several times a day — pretty much whenever I’m in the kitchen. Even it’s just a couple of crumbs or after a used plate that got left on the counter.

Where do I start….I’m obsessed about keeping everything clean, but there are two things in particular. I wash my hands constantly and I can’t vacuum enough! I vacuum almost everyday and sometimes I want to vacuum twice a day but stop myself.

I need the sink in the kitchen clean/empty. It makes me crazy when some one (dh) sticks dishes in the sink instead of straight into the dishwasher. Also, my other big one is the bathroom sink. Maybe its just sinks in general. :)
