Fab Freebie: You Clean Up Nice

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

Yes, this freebie is about cleaning, but the “nice” part of my post title risks being a major understatement. For instance, would you call this incredible Australian house that we virtually crashed back in February just “nice?”

MerchHume HouseCrash

Of course not. It’s amazing. Which is why we’re excited that those very homeowners are also the geniuses behind the luxurious and superbly eco-friendly cleaning line called Murchison-Hume. Even more excitingly, they’re sending over $250 worth of luxe home-cleaning products to one lucky reader’s casa (feel free to drool, since you’ll soon have something to clean it up with).

MerchHume SixHandSoap

So why do we love Murchison-Hume? Let’s start with the design: vintage apothecary-style bottles that make any countertop photo-shoot ready. Then there’s the eco part. All products are premium organic and are based in the same technology that cleans up oil spills, meaning they’re completely non-toxic. Oh, and of course there’s the fact that they actually work – and smell great (mmm, Australian White Grapefruit). And yes this line (which you can find stateside in Anthropologie and in upscale shelter mags like Elle Decor) is pricier than your average cleaner, but you certainly get what you pay for. Plus, it never hurts to feel a bit fancy when you’re tidying up. In fact they sent some our way and we’ve never felt so elegant while getting our scrub on. There was even some raised pinky action while we went.

MerchHume LaundryGarment

So here are the deets for this week’s giveaway, including all of the loot that our winner’s gonna take home…

  • PRIZE: Murchison-Hume’s “Classic Six” boxed set, full refill set, Luxury Laundry Soak, Original Garment Groom, Hand Soap and their brand new hand cream.
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “KEEP IT CLEAN” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … fess up about what you obsessively clean. Are you a frequent hand washer or teeth brusher? Does clutter on your countertop drive you nuts? Do you consider clothes to be dirty even if they’ve barely been worn?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, April 14th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: Worldwide. That’s right, it’s fair game for everyone.
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

I have to admit it, my obsession is constantly washing clothes on hot. Even if I have something on for an hour, into the laundry bin it goes. I’m trying to be better, water conservation and all.

I can’t stand clutter. I whisk away papers, books and other random stuff into baskets, drawers and closets. Then of course those get messy, but at least the spaces guests see are clean and clutter-free!

I am obsessed (yes, obsessed!) with OxyClean. I use it to soak everything from kitchen towels to my husband’s dress shirts (no more rings around *anything*). As an added bonus, my wedding set is always so sparkly after I do the laundry. I recently discovered that OxyClean will also take stains out of china, but I really should have figured that one out on my own as I have been known to OxyClean my plastic cutting boards. Of course the Murchison-Hume Luxury Laundry Soak caught my eye. I’d love to try a soak-off! Like I said, obsessed.

I definitely love keeping the bathroom tidy. It’s the only decorated room in the house so far– so every bit counts! And to a previous commenter– Anthropologie has great colorful patterned bath mats!

    KEEP IT CLEAN!

I am constantly tidying up our home. I try and clean the kitchen after ever use…but I’ve been slacking lately. There’s nothing like walking into a clean, no-dishes-in-the-sink-or-on-the-stove, kitchen – It’s just so peaceful and calming for me. I think I’m going to go home and wash some dishes.

The only cleaning thing I obsess about is the floors. We have a no shoe policy in our house, but two dogs and no carpeting. I hate when you can feel the dirt on the floor with bare feet. As a result I sweep a few times a week and mop once.

I’m an epidemiologist, so I’m a fanatic about food safety. Everything that touches raw meat goes into the dishwasher immediately, and I scrub under my nails with a nailbrush. At the grocery store, I use a little plastic bag glove to touch and pick up meat packages. All that fanaticism leaves me little time to clean the bathrooms, unfortunately. :)

KEEP IT CLEAN! I religously disinfect door knobs and the woodwork around it. Especially the white doors thoughout our home. There’s nothing worse than spotting smudgy stains on a door. It’s a place often overlooked by the tidiest cleaners, but “must” for my weekly chores.

I hope it isn’t out of place for a man to be writing in, but my wife loves this blog, and I am quickly getting hooked! I have to admit that I have a guilty obsession with things being clean in the house. I get home slightly after my wife does in the evenings. Right when I walk in the door, I can see her on her computer, undoubtedly looking at YHL. It has become routine, or I guess obsession, to give her a little time with what she enjoys while I clean up after our furry daughter Gracie Mae. She’s our dog and love to get dirty and play, so cleaning up after her is my constant joy!
