Yes, this freebie is about cleaning, but the “nice” part of my post title risks being a major understatement. For instance, would you call this incredible Australian house that we virtually crashed back in February just “nice?”
Of course not. It’s amazing. Which is why we’re excited that those very homeowners are also the geniuses behind the luxurious and superbly eco-friendly cleaning line called Murchison-Hume. Even more excitingly, they’re sending over $250 worth of luxe home-cleaning products to one lucky reader’s casa (feel free to drool, since you’ll soon have something to clean it up with).
So why do we love Murchison-Hume? Let’s start with the design: vintage apothecary-style bottles that make any countertop photo-shoot ready. Then there’s the eco part. All products are premium organic and are based in the same technology that cleans up oil spills, meaning they’re completely non-toxic. Oh, and of course there’s the fact that they actually work – and smell great (mmm, Australian White Grapefruit). And yes this line (which you can find stateside in Anthropologie and in upscale shelter mags like Elle Decor) is pricier than your average cleaner, but you certainly get what you pay for. Plus, it never hurts to feel a bit fancy when you’re tidying up. In fact they sent some our way and we’ve never felt so elegant while getting our scrub on. There was even some raised pinky action while we went.

I am obsessive about my counter tops. They must be clutter-free, and clean. Every day I declutter and then clorox them…and then if I’m feeling particularly sassy, I spray this awesome Caldrea spray on them, and they smell divine. I actually read about Murchison in Real Simple (?) this month and was intrigued…would love to try it.

I think I’m just a little more of a clean freak than the average person, but my husband thinks I’m obsessive about it. At the end of everyday (unless we eat out) I wipe down our counters in the kitchen with a paper towel and then use the same paper towel to wipe the floor down. It’s amazing how dirty our kitchen floor gets everyday.

I am not obsessively clean about anything but in general I am less stressed when the basics (kitchen, bath and sheets) are all clean. A little dust and dog hair are easy to explain away :)

I have carrara marble countertops in my kitchen. While beautiful, they are not as durable as granite, so I obsessively clean them after every meal. Might not work for some, but I had a bit of a kitchen-cleaning problem before the marble, so its ok for me!

I can’t stand a messy kitchen or toy clutter. Living in this tiny house with an odd layout means my 1 year old plays in the kitchen while I cook creating the perfect storm. Luckily after living with me for 5 years my hubby is FINALLY beginning to appreciate having a tidy home and cleans up the messes that used to only bug me. Thank goodness for small miracles!

I’m an all-around obsessive cleaner. A big irk is when I see dishes that haven’t been scraped clean after eating — I need to get those dishes at least rinsed right after dinner, otherwise it all seems like a bigger chore later!
