Yes, this freebie is about cleaning, but the “nice” part of my post title risks being a major understatement. For instance, would you call this incredible Australian house that we virtually crashed back in February just “nice?”
Of course not. It’s amazing. Which is why we’re excited that those very homeowners are also the geniuses behind the luxurious and superbly eco-friendly cleaning line called Murchison-Hume. Even more excitingly, they’re sending over $250 worth of luxe home-cleaning products to one lucky reader’s casa (feel free to drool, since you’ll soon have something to clean it up with).
So why do we love Murchison-Hume? Let’s start with the design: vintage apothecary-style bottles that make any countertop photo-shoot ready. Then there’s the eco part. All products are premium organic and are based in the same technology that cleans up oil spills, meaning they’re completely non-toxic. Oh, and of course there’s the fact that they actually work – and smell great (mmm, Australian White Grapefruit). And yes this line (which you can find stateside in Anthropologie and in upscale shelter mags like Elle Decor) is pricier than your average cleaner, but you certainly get what you pay for. Plus, it never hurts to feel a bit fancy when you’re tidying up. In fact they sent some our way and we’ve never felt so elegant while getting our scrub on. There was even some raised pinky action while we went.
So here are the deets for this week’s giveaway, including all of the loot that our winner’s gonna take home…
- PRIZE: Murchison-Hume’s “Classic Six” boxed set, full refill set, Luxury Laundry Soak, Original Garment Groom, Hand Soap and their brand new hand cream.
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “KEEP IT CLEAN” and…
- BONUS QUESTION: … fess up about what you obsessively clean. Are you a frequent hand washer or teeth brusher? Does clutter on your countertop drive you nuts? Do you consider clothes to be dirty even if they’ve barely been worn?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, April 14th at 8pm EST
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: Worldwide. That’s right, it’s fair game for everyone.
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

KEEP IT CLEAN
I am obsessed with cleaning clutter! I don’t leave a room without something that I will put into another room. Empty drinking glasses, random socks, and granola bar wrappers. If its not in its place, its going to be!
Jackie says
KEEP IT CLEAN! I’m OCD about everything being clean – but the bathroom is the top of the list!
Melissa M says
KEEP IT CLEAN! I’m obsessed w/ keeping our kitchen counters clean. I can’t cook if there’s crumbs or spills!
Meredith says
KEEP IT ClEAN!!! I am obsessed with vacuuming, I actually think it is fun! But only because I have a very small apartment. Also, cleaning counter tops…2 kittens= lots of hair and little dirty footprints everywhere!
Lauren (in PA) says
Keep it Clean!
I’m not overly obsessed about being clean, I just really don’t have time with two jobs and a teenager! But I am obsessive about not eating in my bedroom. The thought of crumbs drives me insane. Since I got a new vacuum, I like to vacuum more, and I’m pretty big into keeping my counters clean to keep ants away.
Jessica Pieri says
Keep It Clean! Clutter and dirty floors drive me crazy!
Jill T says
KEEP IT CLEAN!
The kitchen, the kitchen, the kitchen. When the kitchen is a mess, it feels like our whole house is in disorder. When the kitchen is clean and organized, with a cleared off counter and nothing in the sink, we all feel a little more at ease.
(I also have a slight obsession with cleaning the glass sliding doors that go to the deck. Our two year old and our retriever BOTH press their noses/hands/paws up to it all the time, so I am constantly wiping off little marks.)
Katie says
“KEEP IT CLEAN!” Clutter drives me crazy – makes my husband & I feel stressed when our home is chaotic or unorganized. I clean/organize way more than I should. ;)

Keep it Clean!
The only thing that has to be clean in my house if the kitchen counter. I recently purchased a cross stitch at a thrift store that discribes my house best: My house is Clean enough to be healthy and messy enough to be happy.
Angie says
Keep it clean! I love for the counter to be completely clean! Shows off the granite that was our big remodel splurge!
Hannajoy says
KEEP IT CLEAN!!
I’m generally pretty relaxed when it comes to cleaning (which drives my nearly OCD husband bananas) but one thing that has to be immaculate for some strange reason is my makeup drawer. I organized it almost 3 years ago with sliding trays and cubbies and since then, there cannot be one spare splatter of makeup, stray hair or powder residue anywhere. Everything has to be lined up perfectly and sharpened/cleaned, ready for next use. Slightly bizzarre.

Similar to many who have posted– dirty countertops in the kitchen or bath make me crazy!
Nancy says
“KEEP IT CLEAN,” is a mantra that’s hard to follow in a bitty house with two rambunctious medium-sized dogs! There’s enough hair in the corners to make AT LEAST a Burger-sized pooch within 48 hours of sweeping… However, my kitchen sink is always scrubbed down and turned out. Although there are dishes in there frequently, since we don’t have a dishwasher, the ceramic is gleaming, and the drain gets scrubbed down with salt and a citrus skin weekly to shine that brass up until it’s glowing and golden! Even though it’s such a small thing as far as keeping house, there’s something deeply rewarding about finishing a day’s dishes and seeing that little treasure chest shine as the water swirls away!

I am an obsessive-compulsive vacuum-er. My dog loses a small-child’s body-weight in fur every day… it’s a constant battle that I am never going to win! (but she’s worth it)

Sarah says
Keep it Clean!
I am obsessed with keeping my dog and his toys clean. We love having guests over and lets face it, not everyone is a dog lover! so I keep his ceramic food bowls spotless and always bathe him and wash his toys, throw the stuffed ones in the wash. They just get so dirty and gross and no one wants to come over and have a smelly dog jumping up to greet them with his dirty little stuffed toys! haha. Just my thing! I like to keep everything clean and inviting so EVERYONE can enjoy themselves.

Clutter on the counter tops really drives me nuts! I have to wipe the counters down every night and make sure things are clean before I go to bed or else I can’t sleep. Weird, I know.

My future husband is obsessed with keeping the kitchen counters clean and keeping our new couch free of fur from our 4 furrey kitty friends.
Kimberly says
Keep it clean! Countertops wiped and rugs vacuumed!
Kristin says
Keep it Clean!! The only thing I’m really obsessive about are my kitchen counters, otherwise I’m neat but not preoccupied by it.
Amy says
Keep it Clean! For me it’s definitely handwashing. I try to keep the counters in the kitchen clean and keep the dishes manageable, but my boyfriend and I are the only ones who do dishes or clean anything in our 3 person, 2 dog household. Our roommate only cleans his own room and his dog is the bigger shedder and messmaker of the two.

P.S. I’d like to extend a big, fat Thank You for this awesome opportunity! Murchison-Hume’s and your generosity are much appreciated!
The blog (and by extension, your lifestyle) is very, very inspiring, and I hear *nothing* but sweet nothings about the website… Congratulations, John and Sherry, for reducing an entire generation of web-savvy people to piles of admiration, drool, and little murmurs which often include “stunning,” “lustworthy,” and “just go look for yourself, because there’s no way to explain all the yumminess!” :)
Sloane C. says
KEEP IT CLEAN!!! I’m a tad bit OCD and have been a clean freak since I was old enough to pick up a broom. So I keep everything obsessively neat and clean from the floors to the ceiling fan. I would LOVE this fab freebie!!

Jessica says
Keep it clean! I need to have the bed made and the top of my dresser neat. After a hectic day, I want to be able to come home and climb into bed in a room that feels ordered and calm, since not much else in life feels that way! :)
Julie says
KEEP IT CLEAN!
I constantly find myself cleaning off any table where I sit. Any time my water glass leaves a ring of water or a tortilla chip leaves crumbs, my compulsive cleaner self has to deal with it right away. I typically have to have one napkin for my lap and one napkin for the table top area.

I hate clutter, and dirty floors. We have stained concrete and I’m constantly sweeping because I can’t stand stepping on stuff.
Beverly Lynn says
KEEP IT CLEAN!
I am an obsessive hand washer. Probably comes from having been a waitress and a hospital volunteer in my past. Other than that, I am pretty lackadaisical about my house. We keep it clean and neat for the most part, but I am not OCD and sometimes my clothes will be a bit strewn about.
Jen says
KEEP IT CLEAN! No one would ever label me a ‘neat freak’, but the one thing I am obsessive about is LAUNDRY! I do laundry every single day…yet somehow that hamper is always full!
Amanda says
KEEP IT CLEAN
I have two things, okay three things, I constantly obsess about. 1st – dishes in my sink – can’t stand them!!! It’s so bad I can’t sleep at night if I know there are dishes that need to be put in the dishwasher. 2nd – laundry – can’t handle it being piled up. I do at least one load a day. 3rd – clutter – a place for everything and everything in it’s place! My 5 year old even has an issue with clutter!
