Fab Freebie: You Clean Up Nice

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

Yes, this freebie is about cleaning, but the “nice” part of my post title risks being a major understatement. For instance, would you call this incredible Australian house that we virtually crashed back in February just “nice?”

MerchHume HouseCrash

Of course not. It’s amazing. Which is why we’re excited that those very homeowners are also the geniuses behind the luxurious and superbly eco-friendly cleaning line called Murchison-Hume. Even more excitingly, they’re sending over $250 worth of luxe home-cleaning products to one lucky reader’s casa (feel free to drool, since you’ll soon have something to clean it up with).

MerchHume SixHandSoap

So why do we love Murchison-Hume? Let’s start with the design: vintage apothecary-style bottles that make any countertop photo-shoot ready. Then there’s the eco part. All products are premium organic and are based in the same technology that cleans up oil spills, meaning they’re completely non-toxic. Oh, and of course there’s the fact that they actually work – and smell great (mmm, Australian White Grapefruit). And yes this line (which you can find stateside in Anthropologie and in upscale shelter mags like Elle Decor) is pricier than your average cleaner, but you certainly get what you pay for. Plus, it never hurts to feel a bit fancy when you’re tidying up. In fact they sent some our way and we’ve never felt so elegant while getting our scrub on. There was even some raised pinky action while we went.

MerchHume LaundryGarment

So here are the deets for this week’s giveaway, including all of the loot that our winner’s gonna take home…

  • PRIZE: Murchison-Hume’s “Classic Six” boxed set, full refill set, Luxury Laundry Soak, Original Garment Groom, Hand Soap and their brand new hand cream.
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “KEEP IT CLEAN” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … fess up about what you obsessively clean. Are you a frequent hand washer or teeth brusher? Does clutter on your countertop drive you nuts? Do you consider clothes to be dirty even if they’ve barely been worn?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, April 14th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: Worldwide. That’s right, it’s fair game for everyone.
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

I think I’m obsessively organized, not necessarily obsessively clean. I can’t stand piles of stuff everywhere – if it’s gonna be a pile, it better be chronological or alphabetical.

KEEP IT CLEAN! I am obsessed with a clean kitchen. I love to cook, so it’s kind of like ‘my space’, and to me if the kitchen is dirty, the rest of the house looks filthy as well. Second place would have to go to my desk… which is never clean. *sigh*

I clean my hairbrushes regularly, I can’t stand when they are full of hair. I think it was those years working in a hair salon that still stick with me. I also get great joy from cleaning the lint from the dryer!

I am not at ALL a neat freak, however it makes me nuts that my husband leaves items in every room of the house when he comes home from work. I’ll find his jacket in the living room… his shoes in the computer room… his suit pants in the guest bedroom… and yet he’s in the master bedroom getting changed!

I’m not obsessed with cleaning anything. The dishes can wait until tomorrow, the bed can remain unmade (since I’m getting back in it in 16 hours anyway), the clothes get worn until I spill something on them, and the house gets picked up only when company is coming over. Pretty low maintenance over here :)

My stay-at-home mom friends and I have been talking about this lately – how we wish we could follow a professional house cleaner around for a day to get some ideas on how to be more efficient when cleaning. Also, my hubby can’t handle clutter on MY desk! Even when he’s not looking at it, just the fact that he knows its there drives him nuts!

I’m not actually obsessive about cleaning anything … I wish I were a little more concerned about it, but I just try to keep everything generally neat and clean and don’t spend much time thinking or worrying about it. (Some natural products would definitely trump the toxic Soft Scrub type stuff I use now though … I’ve been intending to upgrade for some time now.)

“KEEP IT CLEAN” – I can’t clutter of any kind. I will actually purge things that I would probably wear/use again, just because I get the urge to “feel clean and clutter free”. My husband goes crazy because I will often “organize” his things, and he has no idea where to find them…I guess it is better then being a slob :)

I used to be obsessive about cleanliness. Having a dog has changed that, since Steve the Cow Dog sheds enough to knit a blanket – overnight. So, for my sanity’s sake, I’ve decided that a floor that’s less than worthy of dining on is A-OK.
