Yes, this freebie is about cleaning, but the “nice” part of my post title risks being a major understatement. For instance, would you call this incredible Australian house that we virtually crashed back in February just “nice?”
Of course not. It’s amazing. Which is why we’re excited that those very homeowners are also the geniuses behind the luxurious and superbly eco-friendly cleaning line called Murchison-Hume. Even more excitingly, they’re sending over $250 worth of luxe home-cleaning products to one lucky reader’s casa (feel free to drool, since you’ll soon have something to clean it up with).
So why do we love Murchison-Hume? Let’s start with the design: vintage apothecary-style bottles that make any countertop photo-shoot ready. Then there’s the eco part. All products are premium organic and are based in the same technology that cleans up oil spills, meaning they’re completely non-toxic. Oh, and of course there’s the fact that they actually work – and smell great (mmm, Australian White Grapefruit). And yes this line (which you can find stateside in Anthropologie and in upscale shelter mags like Elle Decor) is pricier than your average cleaner, but you certainly get what you pay for. Keep it clean!
Having a cluttered counter top in the kitchen drives me in-freakin-sane! I’m always making sure things are put away and all appliances but the coffee maker have a home in a cabinet.

I wash my hands a lot, but that’s not a habit I really obsess over– it’s just what happens. My work clothes get washed after one wear to get rid of all the grease and sweat, so that’s not really too bad…
What I obsess over are very tiny areas, honestly: the handles of our white appliances, the door frames, and light switches. Small details, but it really makes me feel like I’m doing something to keep up the house if there’s no grunge on those commonly-touched surfaces!

“KEEP IT CLEAN!” The lil’ baby toilet seat that sets on top of our regular toilet seat for our toddler gets pee’d on daily…and can really start to stank, so I try to wipe it down after each use. Tedious but better than smelling urine all day!

We like to have EVERYTHING clean, but the biggest thing is our dishes. We typically clean our dirty pots and pans before the food hits the table (even at breakfast)! Dirty dishes in the sink make the entire house feel dirty and cluttered.

With the sweetest two year old girl running around our house all day, I mainly obsess over the floors. We have beautiful hard woods with comfy rugs scattered over them… I vacuum those every other day, sweep each day, and get a good swiffer or mop in twice a week. She eats enough dirt outside that keeping our inside floors clean seems like a good idea :)

I obsess over clean toilets! They have to be clean enough to eat off of. Okay. Maybe not that obsessed (and I’ve never actually eaten off of a toilet, and I don’t think I would take that bet either). But as a person who hates being sick and then thinking about having to be sick in a dirty toilet…I don’t think I need to go on, do you? I’m also a new hardwood floor owner. I might become a bit microfiber cloth crazy! No shame in that.
