Yes, this freebie is about cleaning, but the “nice” part of my post title risks being a major understatement. For instance, would you call this incredible Australian house that we virtually crashed back in February just “nice?”
Of course not. It’s amazing. Which is why we’re excited that those very homeowners are also the geniuses behind the luxurious and superbly eco-friendly cleaning line called Murchison-Hume. Even more excitingly, they’re sending over $250 worth of luxe home-cleaning products to one lucky reader’s casa (feel free to drool, since you’ll soon have something to clean it up with).
So why do we love Murchison-Hume? Let’s start with the design: vintage apothecary-style bottles that make any countertop photo-shoot ready. Then there’s the eco part. All products are premium organic and are based in the same technology that cleans up oil spills, meaning they’re completely non-toxic. Oh, and of course there’s the fact that they actually work – and smell great (mmm, Australian White Grapefruit). And yes this line (which you can find stateside in Anthropologie and in upscale shelter mags like Elle Decor) is pricier than your average cleaner, but you certainly get what you pay for. I’m constantly straightening, de-cluttering, and wiping things down. But the thing that annoys my boyfriend the most?? I wash my dishes before putting them in the dishwasher. Not with soap, but they are spick-and-span clean otherwise.

I’m obsessive about wiping down the outside of my handbags – they get dumped on floors, on seats in trains, hanging from backs of doors in public bathrooms…. yuck! So I give them a quick wipedown with an antispetic wipe to keep things germ free. An indulgence if I have time is to empty my handbag/purse out and shake it clean. Nothing worse than putting your hand in your bag to find that half melted mentos you forgot about last week…. *shudder*

I am obsessively clean about my purse :) I hate having a billion things in there and so I always get the garbage out and just carry my wallet, keys, phone, chapstick and maybe ipod. Occasionally some Advil or purell but I am definitely not one of those kitchen sink people!

One thing that I absolutely am obsessed with keeping clean are counter-tops. This includes the crumbs on the kitchen counter-tops, and water splashes on the bathroom sink tops. I wipe down the kitchen counters with a sponge or an anti-bactierial wipe at least once a day because someone’s bound to leave crumbs!

I am very laid-back about my house. It’s clean, but always exuding the lived-in vibe, if you know what I mean.
My office desk, however, is my obsession. Everything has to have it’s place. Anything that might possibly be filed away somewhere will be. Anything that cannot must sit at its appropriate angle on my desk. I keep a Swiffer duster in my drawer to keep dust bunnies at bay.
I don’t know what it is… I guess I just am at my most productive when everything is neat and tidy. No wonder I never get anything done at home!

I’m not terribly obsessive about cleaning most things, but any work space has to be neat before I can do… work. I can’t make toast in my kitchen unless the dishes are done first.
