Yes, this freebie is about cleaning, but the “nice” part of my post title risks being a major understatement. For instance, would you call this incredible Australian house that we virtually crashed back in February just “nice?”
Of course not. It’s amazing. Which is why we’re excited that those very homeowners are also the geniuses behind the luxurious and superbly eco-friendly cleaning line called Murchison-Hume. Even more excitingly, they’re sending over $250 worth of luxe home-cleaning products to one lucky reader’s casa (feel free to drool, since you’ll soon have something to clean it up with).
So why do we love Murchison-Hume? Let’s start with the design: vintage apothecary-style bottles that make any countertop photo-shoot ready. Then there’s the eco part. All products are premium organic and are based in the same technology that cleans up oil spills, meaning they’re completely non-toxic. Oh, and of course there’s the fact that they actually work – and smell great (mmm, Australian White Grapefruit). And yes this line (which you can find stateside in Anthropologie and in upscale shelter mags like Elle Decor) is pricier than your average cleaner, but you certainly get what you pay for. Plus, it never hurts to feel a bit fancy when you’re tidying up. In fact they sent some our way and we’ve never felt so elegant while getting our scrub on. The one thing that I do really like to keep an eye on is clothing. Except for pajamas, if I’ve worn it even for just a little while, I don’t like to wear it again, which adds to my laundry pile significantly!

KEEP IT CLEAN! I’m admittedly a bit of a pack-rat/slob, but one thing I am obsessive about keeping clean is my new sofa. I love it so much, but I’m so afraid of spilling something or having it covered in pet hair that I vacuum regularly and use one of those Pledge pet hair pick-up thingies. The sofa usually covered with a sheet, so you can’t even see how cool it is. haha I’m afraid of becoming one of those old ladies who keeps plastic covers on all the furniture.

Like I’m sure many others said, I teach Kindergarteners (and sometimes 3 & 4 year olds). Not only am I obsessed with washing my OWN hands, I’m obsessed with keeping the kids hands clean! If I see a hand near a nose or a mouth, they are going to go wash! As long as the happy birthday song!

As life in my house goes each week we have many things that do not get placed back in their proper place, but when it comes to food or a clean house with dust/dirt it HAS to get cleaned. I have to have a loaded dishwasher and clean bathrooms!!

As a matter of fact I am doing the spring cleaning indoors right now. I actually find that cleaning my house is quite relaxing and I enjoy it, but have found that it has become a bit obsessive. The problem is I am on a major budget and buy the cheapest cleaning products, which are not typically eco-friendly. I would love to use products that are both eco-friendly and something of a splurge.

I am a bit fanatical about laundry – I feel that it is the only thing I can control home care wise right now. My husband works with wood so there is always dust, our dog is aging so we always have to wash floors/blankets/etc. If I could find something that smelled good, made my house smell good and if it was not going to turn my hair green or give it a perm by the odor I would be very happy.

I’m crazy OCD about our house! It’s more of a germ thing than anything else. My husband is a grad student, and if he rides the bus…or even if I just go to the store….I have a rule that we HAVE to change our clothes before we sit on the couch. Oh, and if he even comes near the bed with “contaminated” clothes, I freak out!!

I work in a school for kids with special needs, and so I am exposed to bodily fluids all day at work. One student spits/hocks loogies at me (and anyone else within reach), for example. I am, consequently, pretty fiendish about cleaning myself and my clothes. I know it isn’t very green of me (all the more reason why I would love these products!) but I end up doing small loads of laundry very frequently…and I am no stranger to twice-daily showers.

My kids faces and trimming their nails. This may seem like no biggie but with 4 children 4 and under that is 100 nails (fingers and toes…including mine) thank goodness hubby does his own! :) We line em up and go at it like a little production line :)
