Fab Freebie: You Clean Up Nice

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

Yes, this freebie is about cleaning, but the “nice” part of my post title risks being a major understatement. For instance, would you call this incredible Australian house that we virtually crashed back in February just “nice?”

MerchHume HouseCrash

Of course not. It’s amazing. Which is why we’re excited that those very homeowners are also the geniuses behind the luxurious and superbly eco-friendly cleaning line called Murchison-Hume. Even more excitingly, they’re sending over $250 worth of luxe home-cleaning products to one lucky reader’s casa (feel free to drool, since you’ll soon have something to clean it up with).

MerchHume SixHandSoap

So why do we love Murchison-Hume? Let’s start with the design: vintage apothecary-style bottles that make any countertop photo-shoot ready. Then there’s the eco part. All products are premium organic and are based in the same technology that cleans up oil spills, meaning they’re completely non-toxic. Oh, and of course there’s the fact that they actually work – and smell great (mmm, Australian White Grapefruit). And yes this line (which you can find stateside in Anthropologie and in upscale shelter mags like Elle Decor) is pricier than your average cleaner, but you certainly get what you pay for. Plus, it never hurts to feel a bit fancy when you’re tidying up. In fact they sent some our way and we’ve never felt so elegant while getting our scrub on. There was even some raised pinky action while we went.

MerchHume LaundryGarment

So here are the deets for this week’s giveaway, including all of the loot that our winner’s gonna take home…

  • PRIZE: Murchison-Hume’s “Classic Six” boxed set, full refill set, Luxury Laundry Soak, Original Garment Groom, Hand Soap and their brand new hand cream.
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “KEEP IT CLEAN” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … fess up about what you obsessively clean. Are you a frequent hand washer or teeth brusher? Does clutter on your countertop drive you nuts? Do you consider clothes to be dirty even if they’ve barely been worn?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, April 14th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: Worldwide. That’s right, it’s fair game for everyone.
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

I have to have a clean sink all the time. And I’m an obsessive vacuumer. It’s actually very strange, but I feel like it’s an instant home makeover every single time!

Hello. My name is Gretchen, and I can’t. stop. vacuuming.

There definitely isn’t anything that I have an obsession with cleaning. I’m more of a relaxed, go with the flow type person. Things are clean, but nicely cluttered

My fess up about cleaning is, the dishes…

I was an OR nurse which put my OCD streak on overdrive! I organize dishes in the order of clean (relatively), clean-contaminated, contaminated, or dirty. I change out the scalding hot water between every dishes type, and usually twice for contaminated or dirty!

Its obsessive I know…and oh, if my husband does dishes, I can’t watch…lol

I’m obsessive about cleaning all my stainless steel products, like the fridge, the oven, the kettle. As soon as anyone goes near them they seem to smudge finger prints on them.

It’s gross but to me, there is nothing worse than walking into a bathroom and seeing a dingy or less than pristine toilet. Can you say yuck with a side of ick?

I used to be mad for those blue drop in tank thingies but after moving to England where recycling is more or less mandatory, seeing how much trash we’re keeping from the landfill by recycling has really caused a lightbulb, one family can really make a difference moment for us on the eco front. So that made me feel a bit iffy on putting that blue stuff x3 for each bathroom into the sewer system each and every month.

So instead I’ve switched to an organic ‘green’ bowl cleaner even though it means more time swishing and swirling than before. On the other, my bathrooms feels clean and are softly scented by soy vanilla bean candles instead of caustic cleaners.

I obsess about the clutter on our dining table. It becomes a catch-all for everything that is carried into the house after work. The piles make me cringe and I nag and redistribute constantly! Running a close second to that is the laundry. My philosophy? Once and done. Rarely do we wear things more than once without washing them, even its its only for a few hours. Okay, so this one is slightly more obsessive… :)

My husband has a habit of draping towels over doors to dry, rather than hanging them up after his shower. It drives me nuts so in this house I made sure that we are towel-bar free…only hooks for us!! Too bad it hasn’t broken him of his door-draping habit!
