Yes, this freebie is about cleaning, but the “nice” part of my post title risks being a major understatement. For instance, would you call this incredible Australian house that we virtually crashed back in February just “nice?”
Of course not. It’s amazing. Which is why we’re excited that those very homeowners are also the geniuses behind the luxurious and superbly eco-friendly cleaning line called Murchison-Hume. Even more excitingly, they’re sending over $250 worth of luxe home-cleaning products to one lucky reader’s casa (feel free to drool, since you’ll soon have something to clean it up with).
So why do we love Murchison-Hume? Let’s start with the design: vintage apothecary-style bottles that make any countertop photo-shoot ready. Then there’s the eco part. All products are premium organic and are based in the same technology that cleans up oil spills, meaning they’re completely non-toxic. Oh, and of course there’s the fact that they actually work – and smell great (mmm, Australian White Grapefruit). And yes this line (which you can find stateside in Anthropologie and in upscale shelter mags like Elle Decor) is pricier than your average cleaner, but you certainly get what you pay for. Plus, it never hurts to feel a bit fancy when you’re tidying up. In fact they sent some our way and we’ve never felt so elegant while getting our scrub on. There was even some raised pinky action while we went.

I love a clean, dry sink…when we were selling our house I had to go around the house & wipe down every sink before we went anywhere just incase someone called for a showing while we were away! It drove my family crasy!

“KEEP IT CLEAN” I can handle a fair amount of “do it tomorrow” unclean stuff: laundry pile, occasional clutter on the counter, grubby fingerprints on the white cabinets and SS fridge, but man, there is no way I would go a day without wiping down my Sonicare toothbrush head and handle. Staring at this when dirty just makes me cringe!!

Keep it clean! I feel the need to wash my feet before bed whenever I’ve not been wearing socks all day (i.e. when I wear open shoes or have been barefoot). Don’t know why socks make the difference, but without them I can just *feel* the dirt on my feet at the end of the day, and can’t bring myself to stick them in the bed that way.

I’d have to say I’m obsessive about washing my family’s hands and my dog! I used to teach kindergarten and learned the hard way, the importance of hand washing! As for my dog, she’s a golden retriever who loves to dig, enough said! :)

I can’t stand for water to be left standing around the sink area. I also can’t stand for the faucet to have water spots from splatters. So, I’m constantly wiping those areas down.

I don’t like anybody to touch it and I pretty much don’t touch anything to it if at all possible during the day. I always volunteer for the dishes no matter how many there are. I think it’s theraputic, but I always like the way I get them done better than my husband who’s idean of doing the dishes is letting them all soak in soapy water for hours until I get annoyed and put them away.

I vacuum/sweep, at least once a day, especially in our living room/kitchen. I have three boys, two dogs and two cats. If I slack off one day we start to drown in pet hair and crumbs! Ha! The bonus to it is the stuff has to be picked up off the floor in order to vacuum so it keeps the clutter from piling up.
