Yes, this freebie is about cleaning, but the “nice” part of my post title risks being a major understatement. For instance, would you call this incredible Australian house that we virtually crashed back in February just “nice?”
Of course not. It’s amazing. Which is why we’re excited that those very homeowners are also the geniuses behind the luxurious and superbly eco-friendly cleaning line called Murchison-Hume. Even more excitingly, they’re sending over $250 worth of luxe home-cleaning products to one lucky reader’s casa (feel free to drool, since you’ll soon have something to clean it up with).
So why do we love Murchison-Hume? Let’s start with the design: vintage apothecary-style bottles that make any countertop photo-shoot ready. Then there’s the eco part. All products are premium organic and are based in the same technology that cleans up oil spills, meaning they’re completely non-toxic. Oh, and of course there’s the fact that they actually work – and smell great (mmm, Australian White Grapefruit). And yes this line (which you can find stateside in Anthropologie and in upscale shelter mags like Elle Decor) is pricier than your average cleaner, but you certainly get what you pay for. I may or may not get excited to brush my teeth at night b/c I know it’s just another thing I can do to show off my multi-tasking skills. Closing blinds, turning off lights, letting our dog out: all things that are SO EASY with some paste and a brush in your mouth! :) Keep it clean.

I really love to keep surfaces clear of clutter – I find that for me, it’s so much easier to clean when there is little to clean around and the stuff that has to be out is at least in a tray or bin.

I’m not a real clean freak, but the thing that I do obsess over is my coffee table. It drives me nuts when the very artfully arranged display of magazines, design books and pretty things gets bombarded with sippy cups, diet soda cans and junk mail. Lately I’ve been pretty obsessed with keeping our closets clean and organized. We’ve been in our house for just over six months now and we’re finally at the point where we aren’t just throwing stuff in the closets – they’re actually organized so now everything has a home. Soooo, it’s an everyday thing to keep them in tip top shape. Plus it makes me feel better knowing that behind those closet doors there is order and function. I obsessively clean my kitchen! It’s the one place I can’t stand to be messy, cluttered, dirty, etc. It drives me crazy when there are things on the counter, dishes in the sink and items not put away in the cupboard and/or fridge! I obsessively vacuum. I moved last year from a wall-to-wall carpet apartment to a wood-floor home, so it cut down on the obsession. I recently acquired a Roomba that I have to run EVERY day on my living room rug and bedroom at least. I think it just makes the whole place look cleaner!

I obsess of having many items on counters. My fiance loves to save all the wine bottles and they line the top of our cabinets which looks pretty neat. But when they start migrating in rows on the rest of our counters is when I start to get a little twitch and have to move them somewhere else. (either the recycle bin which would disappoint my love or move more up above the cabinets) We need to find something to do with all of them!

I really don’t like clutter and love it when my house is clean and organized… however, I have a hard time keeping it that way and! (I just reorganized my bathroom last night because it was driving me nuts!) If there’s any area that I keep the neatest it would be my living room– I like coming home into a reasonably neat room before continuing into the others.
