Fab Freebie: You Clean Up Nice

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

Yes, this freebie is about cleaning, but the “nice” part of my post title risks being a major understatement. For instance, would you call this incredible Australian house that we virtually crashed back in February just “nice?”

MerchHume HouseCrash

Of course not. It’s amazing. Which is why we’re excited that those very homeowners are also the geniuses behind the luxurious and superbly eco-friendly cleaning line called Murchison-Hume. Even more excitingly, they’re sending over $250 worth of luxe home-cleaning products to one lucky reader’s casa (feel free to drool, since you’ll soon have something to clean it up with).

MerchHume SixHandSoap

So why do we love Murchison-Hume? Let’s start with the design: vintage apothecary-style bottles that make any countertop photo-shoot ready. Then there’s the eco part. All products are premium organic and are based in the same technology that cleans up oil spills, meaning they’re completely non-toxic. Oh, and of course there’s the fact that they actually work – and smell great (mmm, Australian White Grapefruit). And yes this line (which you can find stateside in Anthropologie and in upscale shelter mags like Elle Decor) is pricier than your average cleaner, but you certainly get what you pay for. Plus, it never hurts to feel a bit fancy when you’re tidying up. In fact they sent some our way and we’ve never felt so elegant while getting our scrub on. There was even some raised pinky action while we went.

MerchHume LaundryGarment

So here are the deets for this week’s giveaway, including all of the loot that our winner’s gonna take home…

  • PRIZE: Murchison-Hume’s “Classic Six” boxed set, full refill set, Luxury Laundry Soak, Original Garment Groom, Hand Soap and their brand new hand cream.
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “KEEP IT CLEAN” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … fess up about what you obsessively clean. Are you a frequent hand washer or teeth brusher? Does clutter on your countertop drive you nuts? Do you consider clothes to be dirty even if they’ve barely been worn?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, April 14th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: Worldwide. That’s right, it’s fair game for everyone.
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

    Keep it Clean!!!

This is so terribly embarrassing, but I’m having a hard time thinking of ANYTHING I keep obsessively clean! It is pretty important to me that our house smells good, so we do have a huge collection of candles, our windows are open as much as possible, and I bake a lot of bread (not just for the smell – we also eat the bread).

I do tend to put baking ingredients away as soon as a use them. After all, it’s not more work to set them back in the cupboard than it is to set them down on the counter. Right?? That’s what I’ve been telling my husband, anyway!

I can’t deny it. I’m an obsessive hand washer! I grew up working at my parent’s pizza place, and learned all-to-well the value of hand washing.

I absolutely MUST have clean kitchen counter tops. The bedroom can be a disaster, but there’s nothing I hate more that even the slightest smudge or tiniest crumb on the counters.

I’m obsessive about my duvet and down comforter. I’m forever adjusting it so it looks tidy on our bed and fluffing it so the down doesn’t slide down in the pockets of the comforter. OCD much? Yes.

I go crazy over cleaning up kids toys….my husband and I were in the church nursery this past Sunday and I made all the kids (15) clean up one toy before moving onto the next. Basically this meant I was the crazy women cleaning instead of playing!

    KEEP IT CLEAN!!

Well I obsess about a lot in the house, but don’t necessarily get to keep it all clean with my schedule!! LOL…seriously considering highering someone to help. But I’d say my biggest peeve would be the kitchen/family room areas. I hate seeing dirty dishes and cluttered counter tops. Then in the family room I love keeping it toy free and of course throw pillows where they are supposed to be!

I obsessively clean my bathroom sink. After each time I brush my teeth, I give the basin a good scrub… which is slightly ironic because the counter surrounding the sink is always a cluttered, makeup-covered mess. But at least my sink is clean! Bronzer I can handle, but toothpaste residue grosses me right out.

I hate having a sink full of dirty dishes; we moved into a house that doesn’t have a dishwasher, so they accumulate pretty quickly. I try to stay ahead of the game and wash them as soon as we’re done using them, but that doesn’t always work :)

I’m obsessive about keeping most things clean, but I think my number one obsession is laundry.

For some reason, I get anxious when the laundry piles up. When everything’s washed, folded, and put away/hung in it’s proper (color coded) place, I feel so much more at peace.

I’m really entering this giveaway on behalf of my husband, who is the cleaner in the family. But I am obsessive about clutter and do a lot of picking-up-as-I-go. As long as order is restored, I’m not too picky about actual dirt — but he is, and these products look so fabulous, I might even be motivated to pitch in!
