Yes, this freebie is about cleaning, but the “nice” part of my post title risks being a major understatement. For instance, would you call this incredible Australian house that we virtually crashed back in February just “nice?”
Of course not. It’s amazing. Which is why we’re excited that those very homeowners are also the geniuses behind the luxurious and superbly eco-friendly cleaning line called Murchison-Hume. Even more excitingly, they’re sending over $250 worth of luxe home-cleaning products to one lucky reader’s casa (feel free to drool, since you’ll soon have something to clean it up with).
So why do we love Murchison-Hume? Let’s start with the design: vintage apothecary-style bottles that make any countertop photo-shoot ready. Then there’s the eco part. All products are premium organic and are based in the same technology that cleans up oil spills, meaning they’re completely non-toxic. Oh, and of course there’s the fact that they actually work – and smell great (mmm, Australian White Grapefruit). And yes this line (which you can find stateside in Anthropologie and in upscale shelter mags like Elle Decor) is pricier than your average cleaner, but you certainly get what you pay for. I am an obsessive hand washer. I am a personal trainer and I wash my hands at least 20 times a day. In my first year as a trainer, I was sick as a dog-which was so weird for me as I was never a sick child/teen. Washing your hands is a great way to ward off sickness.

I obsess about a lot of stuff around the house, but I’d have to say I’m worse when we have company coming over. As I await their arrival, I just walk around the house straightening bedding and curtains, fluffing pillows, re-wiping counters and picking up little pet furs that the vacuum missed. To be honest, I’m not an obsessive clean-freak. I think the magnet my aunt got me a few years ago sums it up — “I’m creative, you can’t expect me to be neat too!” But with that, I think that being creative requires having attractive bottles of cleaner, so I’m all for something that might help me to clean more! ;)

My obsession is dishes. In my opinion, they do not belong in the sink, which is merely a quick stop along their journey to the dishwasher. I’m the type of person who does the dishes while I’m cooking, and anything that’s left when I’m done is cleaned and stashed in the dishwasher immediately!

i get very frustrated if the refrigerator isn’t clean and organized. that’s probably where i get a little obsessive believing everything has a spot it goes and shouldn’t go anywhere else! but my biggest rule for the kitchen is to never leave dirty dishes out. they immediately go into the dishwasher and if the dishwasher is clean, you empty it instead of putting your dishes in the sink. i’ve never understood why everyone doesn’t believe in this method!

It doesn’t seem out of the ordinary to me, but most people call me compulsive when it comes to cleaning in general. I just like to know that I can walk around in my white socks and not get them dirty, is that so compulsive? And my kitchen is almost always “company ready,” i.e. cleared and cleaned counters, clean sink, empty dishwasher etc. It’s just what you do, isn’t it?
