Yes, this freebie is about cleaning, but the “nice” part of my post title risks being a major understatement. For instance, would you call this incredible Australian house that we virtually crashed back in February just “nice?”
Of course not. It’s amazing. Which is why we’re excited that those very homeowners are also the geniuses behind the luxurious and superbly eco-friendly cleaning line called Murchison-Hume. Even more excitingly, they’re sending over $250 worth of luxe home-cleaning products to one lucky reader’s casa (feel free to drool, since you’ll soon have something to clean it up with).
So why do we love Murchison-Hume? Let’s start with the design: vintage apothecary-style bottles that make any countertop photo-shoot ready. Then there’s the eco part. All products are premium organic and are based in the same technology that cleans up oil spills, meaning they’re completely non-toxic. Oh, and of course there’s the fact that they actually work – and smell great (mmm, Australian White Grapefruit). And yes this line (which you can find stateside in Anthropologie and in upscale shelter mags like Elle Decor) is pricier than your average cleaner, but you certainly get what you pay for. I teach middle school, so it’s a pain – but I am obsessive about clean and organized binders for my students! It drives me NUTS when I hand out notes and they shove them in the binder without even opening it rather than putting it in the appropriate section.

I’m obsessive about keeping the countertops in the kitchen spotless. I put a lot of time into them, and I want them to look nice. I wipe them down at least twice daily. Bathroom counters would be next on the list. Then keeping the beds freshly changed and made.

I definitely wash my hands a lot, but that’s the nature of the beast when you work in a lab and are never really sure what you’re touching or who else has touched it with what on their hands. It’s too bad that my hands suffer, though, since dry skin has definitely become more prominent. It goes away when I’m off for an extended period or on vacation, so I guess it’s just a job hazard!

It’s a tie between the bathroom sink and the dining room table. My husband uses the table as his desk for grad school and it quickly becomes a mess of scribbled notes, pens, books and papers. I’m constantly straightening and moving (while not disrupting the order) to keep it looking uncrowded and presentable.
The sink? I just can’t stand a dirty sink.

After reading a lot of others’ posts, I realize I do a lot of these things! One thing that drives me up the wall, though, is dirty dishes sitting out! Sometimes I even rinse the cooking supplies (pots, spoons, etc) off and put them in the dishwasher before I even eat my dinner!
