My luckiest home improvement moment is having a landlord who is totally chill with us changing things and lending us his ladder.

JOSS ME! I got pretty lucky when I decided that I didn’t just want to do one wall in the kitchen with our custom ordered tile backsplash, but wanted to do two. My Hubby and I literally had only one tile left over and were able to wrap the backsplash all of the way around the kitchen. Yay for last minute design changes that can actually be accommodated!

My luckiest home improvement moment was finding an antique small dresser on the side of the road, waiting for the garbage men to come collect it. After asking the owners of the house and securing it in my trunk, I phoned my Grandfather – I had just moved into my first apartment, and he had been eager to help me get settled. My Grandfather taught me how to re-finish the beautiful piece of furniture, and not only did I end up with a beautiful new piece of furniture for my apartment, but I also got to spend some quality time with Grandfather, working on something together.

My luckiest house moment was selling my house this spring, in the worst market possible. In the spirit of keepin’ it real, I had to get away from my psycho neighbor. It was bad, yo. Now, I’ve been taking a pass on home improvement in my great little rental townhouse, but I’m not averse to random shopping for home furnishings.

Truth is I have horrible luck. But I did look at my house the day after it went on the market. In an ice storm. IT wasn’t my dream house but it was the house that was meant for me.
I may not have good luck but I have a slew of funny stories! Well, they are funny now. :)

For me it was recent. I replaced the pressure valve in a Moen faucet in my kids bath. My husband wanted to help. He ended up pulling only part of it out. It was ugly. Blame thrown to both parties (we are not DIY compatible). I managed to get the stuck part out with a ginormous threaded bolt (the part was plastic, thank God) and put the new part in. It worked great. My husband spent the next day telling everyone at work what a plumbing genius I was.

I’m currently in the midst of my luckiest home moment. About to close next week – My husband and I did, in fact, find our home the day it went on the market. We’d been looking for quite some time for a home with very specific qualities and this home fit nearly every one!

My luckiest home decorating incident was when I bought an Ikea rug. I had my eye on the Alvine Ruta rug … as in, drooling over it for months while saving up for it. When I finally made it to Ikea they were all out and only had the display – I decided to ask anyhow to see if they had more, and they told me I could have the display rug since it was the last one left and they think it will be discontinued. Score! The rug was just highlighted on Design Sponge this morning, too!
