Fab Freebie: What’s In A Name?

*** This giveaway is now closed – see who won below! ***

After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!

I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

FABRIC ME! I’m named after my grandmother whose name was Amorette. My mom thought that sounded too much like an alcholic beverage, so Amanda was the next best thing. :)

My name was just the name that my parents liked the best–they thought it was unique until they met 3 babies with that name right before I was born…but at that point they liked it too much to pick a different name.

My name means “peaceful”. I was named after my Hungarian grandmother whose name was spelled “Szerena” which is kind of cool. As a child I did not like my name but as I grew older I realized it was a beautiful, unique and special name.

Literally, my name (Rebecca) means “chord with a noose” according to my mom’s baby book, but kinder translations have yielded “ensnarer” or “captivating”.

Fabric me! My name doesn’t have any meaning except that it was the result of an argument between my parents that (thankfully) my mom won. My dad wanted to name me Allan after himself….except Allan is not exactly a good girly name.

No real meaning behind my name…but can I tell you about my daughters’ names?? My oldest is Meakin…my mom’s maiden name was Meakins and we just liked how it sounded. Trying to pick a name for daughter #2…my husband suggested Elan but I didn’t care for it. In the middle of this discussion the song “Alison” by Elvis Costello came on the radio…and we both came up with Ellyson by “combining” the two. And then came daughter #3. Someone suggested the name Wren, which I thought was cute…Marin was also suggested. Liked that, too. Combined the two (sort of) and came up with Marenna! I love all three! :) And we never once got to use Charles Philip OR Philip Charles. :)

My first name is Jo, as in the character in “Little Women”. My dad’s middle name was Joe, so this was a tribute to him. My middle name is the same as my mom’s, Caroline. I always wanted to be ‘JC’ but the parents didn’t go for that.

It’s an old family name. Don’t know what it means or where it originated, but it’s always a conversation starter. Of course, there is also the almost daily correction when people think I said my name is Leslie, Lacy, Lucy, Lisa…I’ve gotten it all!

Katy spelled with a y used to be confusing for people (I got called Kathy a lot…), but now that there are some celeb Katys, not everyone assumes I spell my name K-a-t-i-e.

I just go by Anna though :) When naming our son we wanted to give him a name that had a cool story or meaning. We came up with nothing! We did however change his name a few days after he was born lol so I guess that makes for a pretty great story!
