Fab Freebie: What’s In A Name?

*** This giveaway is now closed – see who won below! ***

After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!

I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

No meaning behind my name. All I know is that Erin was the second choice. I could have lived with Erin too

My father liked the television series Dallas so much that he decided both my brother and I had to have the initials “JR” after the character JR in the show. I love my name as long as no one calls me Jenny :)

My parents knew they wanted to continue the “J” name tradition of my father’s family, but also didn’t want to know what gender I was before I was born. Thus, my name Jamie was thought of–it would work either way!

My mom saw a race when she was a teen and one of the runners was named Genelle. My mom liked it so much that she wrote it down and saved it on her bulletin board until she was older, married and had me! A unique way to get a name I suppose. :) Looking forward to seeing you both in Charlotte tomorrow!

My parents tell me that they argued so much about names, not sure if I was to be a boy or a girl, that by the time I finally arrived, it was going to be Kim regardless! Short and simple.

I was named Katharine after Katharine Hepburn, my mom’s favorite actress. My dad said all the Katherines he knew in school were nerds. I guess I’m perpetuating the stereotype there, sort of.

My middle name, Dianne, is the same as my dad’s sister’s. He named her when she was born, so I guess he wanted to pass that on to me, too.

FABRIC ME! Even after two boys, my parents couldn’t agree on a name for their first daughter – me. They left the hospital without a name on the birth certificate. Finally, my mom threatened to call me Chocolate (to go with my last name of Brown. Yeah, that would have been awesome…not) if my dad didn’t agree on another name. So that’s how I was named after my great grandmother. (Hmmm… maybe I would have been known as CoCo??)

My parents couldn’t decide on a name they loved before I was born and they were getting pressure from the nurses. My dad was driving back to the hospital on the day they were to bring me home and heard Pure Prairie League on the radio. He said “I don’t know, how about Amy?” My mom said “Meh. Oh, Whatever, that’s fine.” I think of some of the other songs he could have heard that day, and I suppose I am lucky.
